MAKE YOUR APRIL MEETING RESERVATION!
Almost two years ago I began serving as President of our Sun City Center Woman’s Club. Back then two years seemed like forever, and now in just two short months, I will turn the gavel over to Sally Anne Barclay. The time spent serving as President has given me so much! I count the many amazing women I claim for my friends as my big-gest “take-away”. I stand in awe of each of you and your great human hearts! You give, and you give, and you give of your time, your talent, your love and yes, your money. We, none of us, have any idea the many lives we’ve helped to save or im-prove. I think of the children -- those enrolled in The Hope Fund you made sure had a Christmas; the children born in pov-erty with cleft pallets and lips who have been able to have life-saving surgery due to Operation Smile; and those who will have food to eat over the weekend from Backpacks on a Mission. Then there’s Soles4Souls shoes and “Free the Girls” bras so impoverished adults can start businesses; giving the Wimauma 4H Club copies of the Constitution and the boys of AMIKIDS. There are families who will eat because you supported local food pantries and lonely shut-ins you deliver meals to through Meals on Wheels. You’ve supported the Military Family Trust, CARE for animals, Campaign Against Human Trafficking, and the Veteran’s Memorial to honor those who gave their lives for our free-dom. You cut, stuffed, and sewed your hearts into Heart Pillows, and seatbelt covers. Then there are the no-sew blankets, teddy bears, and greeting cards! I could keep going, but instead of an article I’d need to write a book!

Sharing with Sharon
I hope you feel as I do, that we’ve had some fun times too! The sew-ins, birthday lunches, Bunco, Mahjong, district meetings, and other outings have given us so many opportunities to get to know each other on a personal level, as well as sharing laugh-out-loud stories. Our April meeting should be fantastic with our published children’s book author. I hope to see all of you there for this fun and informa-tive presentation. Please remember that we will be collecting new children’s books, especially those by Dr. Seuss, but all will be appre-ciated. These books will be donated to local schools, specifically those who educate our poorest of children.
Don’t cry because it’s over, Smile because it happened! I like nonsense; it wakes up the brain cells!
Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try! - Dr. Seuss
APRIL PROGRAM
Dianne Ochiltree has been
writing books for children and young adults for over 20 years. Her work has been pub-
lished by major publishers such as Scholastic, Simon &
Schuster, G.P. Putnam Sons and Blue Apple Books. Her books have appeared in foreign
language and audio versions, featured on ‘best of’ lists and
won national and regional awards, including three Flor-ida Book Awards. She has also worked as a book re-viewer, writing coach, creative writing workshop pre-
senter and freelance editor. She lives in Sarasota, Flor-ida.
Her presentation at our April meeting will feature
“Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Writing for Kids”. She is eager to share secrets from more than 20 years writing children’s literature.
Note: She will also bring copies of her recent book - It’s a Firefly Night. You can buy ($5) a copy for our April Home Life project or perhaps for your grandchildren.

A Note from Hospitality Chair,
Anne Rankin
Regarding our luncheon meetings, we continue to have people trying to make or cancel a reservation after the Monday, 11am deadline. (Please refer to our reserva-tion policy on page 1 of this newsletter.) We need to have these steps in place so we can give a correct count to our caterer. We must pay for all lunches or-dered. We can still accept emergency cancellations, but we need to know as soon as you feel it necessary to make an emergency cancellation For the upcoming year, club members should consider a Standing Reservation. The convenience of not having to remember to make a reservation each month is well worth it.
APRIL HOME LIFE PROJECT:
BOOK HEROES
The 2018-2020 GFWC Florida Junior Director’s Pro-
ject is “Book Heroes.” The focus is to donate books to
children who might not otherwise have them at home.
We will be Book Heroes to these children!
The goal of the GFWC Florida Junior Director is
to donate 10,000 books to children in Florida each
year, for a total of 20,000 books by May 2020.
For April, we will
be collecting new
children’s books
or monetary
donations to buy
books to help out
with this project..
Soles4Souls Shoe Collection A Success!
By Patsie Ginley
Conservation Committee members Patsie Gin-
ley and Mary Starrett counted, bundled, boxed,
and shipped 111 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls!
We will collect new and gently used shoes at the
April and May meetings as part of the GFWC
Grand Initiative-a partnership with Soles4Souls.
This organization creates sustainable jobs and
provides relief through the distribution of shoes
and clothing around the world. It repurposes
product to supply its micro-enterprise, disaster
relief and direct assistance programs. A non-
profit social enterprise, Soles4Souls earns more
than 70% of its income and commits 100% of
donations to programs. Since 2006,
Soles4Souls has distributed 30 million pairs of
new and gently worn shoes in 127 countries.
Here’s how it works. The donated shoes will be
sold for an average of $1 per pair to nonprofit
partners in developing countries. Entrepreneurs
will then purchase the shoes and are then able
to start businesses of the own selling the prod-
uct in their local marketplaces. This allows them
the opportunity to earn a sustainable income,
and purchase necessities like food, shelter, and
education. The organization is headquartered in
Nashville. Zappos (online shoe store) will pay all
postage on shoes we collect and send.

am on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at The Renaissance on South Pebble Beach.
As always, everyone is welcome. It’s a great way to meet other members and it doesn’t have to be your birthday for you to attend. Each person orders off the menu and pays for her own meal. Please let me know if you plan to attend by April 16. Send an email to me at [email protected]. Looking forward to seeing you there!

ARTS & CRAFTS – Next crafting session is April 25th
By Karen Wilkinson, Arts & Crafts Chair
Come join us in continuing to make Heart Pillows and No Sew Blankets. We will also be doing the centerpieces for the May General Meeting. This month we will also make flower arrangements. Sally Anne will show us the tricks of the trade. Cost is $10. I will collect money at the General Meeting from those who wish to participate. Remember we meet the 4th Thursday of each month at the Community Hall, Room 3 from 9-12noon. I hope to see you there. I do appreciate all the things each of you do to help us!

Conservation Collections at Our Monthly Club Meetings By Patsie Ginley
The Conservation Committee collects recyclables at every monthly meeting.
The following items are always appreciated: greeting card fronts, buttons (the larger the better—for crafts), Box Tops for Educa-
tion, can tabs, elementary-age-appropriate new or gently used books for the Little Free Library in Wimauma, eye glasses, new
and gently worn shoes (please secure with string or heavy rubber band), and coupons (clipped and separated into “food” and
“non-food”) baggies. Please note - no store coupons, vitamins, or medicine coupons can be used overseas.
Please Note: currently, we are no longer collecting magazines, corks, or stamps. In addition, plastic bags can be recycled at
most grocery stores, and Publix has a container for Styrofoam.
