Getting Ready for the Big Shake

The next phase in the construction of the PLDM Pastoral Center began last August 8, as parish priest Fr. Steven Zabala launched the new fundraising campaign called DOTS or More.

The campaign aims to raise an additional 20 million pesos to sustain the building of the Pastoral Center and Adoration Chapel, by asking parishioners and other generous benefactors to make a pledge to donate P10,000.00 or more by September 20 and fulfill their pledges on or before July 20 next year. PLDM parishioners joined the simultaneous Metro-wide Shake Drill on July 30 to practice emergency and disaster procedures should a massive earthquake hit the area.

By Sylvia Posadas, Coordinator, PPC

(continued on page 7)

The Parish Pastoral Council, through the leadership of its Parish Priest, Fr. Steven C. Zabala, is proud to present the Audited Financial Statement of the PPC Funds as of July 31, 2015. Since 2012, we have recorded our highest fiesta net earnings of P807,836.25this year! Of this amount, 90% will go to the Construction Fund and 10% to the Pastoral Fund. With prudent use of funds, we have adequate cash on hand to finance our Pastoral Plans in the next 2years. Our Project 10.5.10 campaign to raise the initial funding for the construction of our Pastoral Center exceeded our most optimistic expectations. We rely on you, dear parishioners, to equal or surpass your feat in Project 10.5.10with our 2nd Pastoral Center fundraiser, DOTS or More.

Below are the Audited Statement of Assets and Fund Balances for both the Pastoral Fund and Construction Fund. For the complete Financial Statements prepared by PPC Treasurer Julie Zalameda and audited by PPC Auditor Tess Molina, please see the parish office or PPC Treasurer.

TULAIisang Patutunguhan

Magtulungang tapat, dukha o mayaman, Mga pinuno at pinamumunuan.

BLISS 1 Celebrates Feast of Lord of Pardon

The sun shone in all its glory last August 30 as BLISS 1 celebrated the 29th feast day of its patron, the Lord of Pardon, Jesus Christ Crucified. Father Ronnie Banaria, CMF, officiated the Mass at the Bliss 1 chapel.

After the Mass, an image of Jesus on the Cross was carried in a procession around the community. This was followed by a sumptuous lunch shared by residents and guests. Children from nearby areas were also welcomed and served ice cream and fish balls, an activity that has become a Bliss 1 fiesta tradition. Fun and laughter ensued when residents and Claretian seminarians demonstrated their karaoke singing prowess.

A procession around the area was held during the Bliss 1 fiesta.

Fr. Ronnie Banaria, who officiated the Fiesta Mass, joins residents and guests in a sumptuous fiesta lunch.

HAPPY FIESTA BLISS 1 !!!

Org in Focus: Lord of PardonThe Lord of Pardon (LOP) group has been in

the parish for many years now. It is composed of parishioners who are devotees of the Lord of Pardon – Jesus Christ, crucified. According to lordofpardon.org, the LOP is devoted to spread “the message of God’s love, mercy, forgiveness, generosity and gratitude to those who seek Him.”

In the parish, the Lord of Pardon images consist of: the Crucifix and the images of the Divine Mercy, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Santo Nino and the Holy Family. These are brought by the LOP to a member’s home every Tuesday, where they stay for a week.

At the visited home, the family prays the Holy Rosary and special prayers daily, following the Lord of Pardon booklet that accompanies the images. After a week of stay, the images are brought to another home and the ritual is repeated. The LOP aims to reach as many homes as possible to spread the devotion and message of love as well as teach the families how to pray.

The LOP also has other activities, including praying the Holy Rosary in church every Saturday. And, the group embraces its apostolate of prayers for the souls of the dead. Recy B. Sunico, LOP Coordinator

AN EXCERPT FROM THE DIARY OF ST. FAUSTINA

Jesus to St. Faustina: “Secretary of My mercy, write, tell souls about this great mercy of Mine while there is still time.” (Diary 848, 965)Meditation/Reflection: The Lord’s

invitation is not hard to accept. It is an offer for us to come close to Him, an invitation to convert and break away from sin. Our God has a deep love and an unconditional mercy for us, and our acceptance of this mercy involves entrusting our lives to Him. Therefore, let us place our hope in His mercy, heeding this call at the earliest possible time.

Ang BUKLURAN sa Buhay Ko

my belief that God really exists, a God Who never ceases to love us because He cares for us. Binay D. Francia, Bliss 1

Dahil sinabi Niya: ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God [...] and all these will be added unto you’.” Elena “Bing” Goze, Pook Libis

Before, my life was dutifully focused on my family, work and other people. I was not happy and had a feeling of emptiness inside. When I was invited by my dear neighbors in Bldg. 3 to attend the Bukluran sessions hosted by Sisters Jeanette and Naty, I was both curious and excited. They told me it would only be a simple prayer meeting. To my surprise, it was more like a gathering of individuals believing in one God, having a common goal and learning something from each other. The sessions made me realize how important God is in my life. It strengthened

The Parish Pastoral Council Executive Committee members went out to the mountains of Tagaytay last July 4-5, for their annual recollection.

Recollection master Fr. Cyrus Banque, CMF (standing) ably led them to pray and reflect on their lives in relation to their service in the church.

DMA members continue to do their work of mercy at the AFP Medical Center (V. Luna Hospital).

The Mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated by Fr. Steve last July 17 to bless the scholars of the Lord of Divine Mercy Parish Foundation before

they start the new school year. Present during the Mass were the scholars, parents, guardians and the foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Nine Claretian college seminarians started their apostolate in our parish last July 19. According to Fr. Steve, they will come every Sunday to visit the different areas of our parish and help in the formation and building up of the area communities. The group is composed of 3 Vietnamese and 6 Filipinos.

Welcome to our parish community! To the periphery!

“NO BIO, NO BOTO”: BIOMETRICS SCANNING IN SIKATUNA

Voter registration with biometrics scanning was once again conducted for residents of Sikatuna Village last July 23-24 from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. About 400 villagers came to register at the event, which was spearheaded by the Barangay Council in cooperation with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). During this two-day period, the Barangay Sikatuna Hall became a one-stop-shop for a full biometrics scan, which included the gathering of a citizen’s photograph, fingerprints and signature specimens - requirements that were set forth by COMELEC ahead of the 2016 National Elections.

Only those who submitted their biometrics will have their Voter’s IDs issued - or as the COMELEC put it, “No Bio, No Boto”.

Are we ready for the 2016 Elections? Barangay Captain Annabel Curatcho seems confident that we are. “Let us vote wisely,” she said. “Huwag sayangin ang ating boto. Lumabas at bumoto. Ang inyong pagboto ang magsasabi ng ating kinabukasan.” Patricza Braganza

THE ASSUMPTION OF MARYOur Lady of the Assumption is one of 117 titles accorded to the Blessed

Virgin Mary, with a feast in her honor celebrated every August 15. On this day, we recall that she was assumed body and soul into heaven, where the Heavenly Father crowned her three times as Queen of the Church: Militant, Suffering and Triumphant. She is truly deserving of such an honor, for when she consented to be the Mother of Jesus, she became a principal witness to the obedience of faith. She is a model for our times because of her unwavering faith.

When Jesus was dying on the cross, He gave His mother to his disciple; figuratively speaking, He entrusted His Mother to us. Since the Church is the bride of Christ, it follows that Mary is the Mother and Queen of the Church in the order of grace because she gave birth to Jesus. Her spiritual motherhood is universal because it extends to those whom Jesus came to save. The Blessed Mother gave herself entirely to the work of her son Jesus, espousing wholeheartedly the divine will of salvation for all mankind.

The Assumption is also rich in parallelism. It reminds us that our final destiny should be heaven, and implies that in order to attain heavenly bliss, one must depart from earthly pleasures. Devotees pray to her for peace, healing, freedom, truth, and the eternal repose of our loved ones. To be devoted to the Blessed Mother is an act of humility, submission and gratitude.

As we commemorate her feast day, let us picture her ascent slowly in our minds. While she is airborne, let us implore her to carry our petitions with her straight to heaven. So that when the Heavenly Father receives and crowns her, He will also crown our prayers. Sarah Filomena R. Villacorta

Pre-construction activities now ongoing Preparations are indeed underway for the construction of PLDM’s

Pastoral Center and Adoration Chapel! After final approval and acceptance of the construction drawings

prepared by 5-Ideas Innovative Design Experts and Specialists Inc. (the architectural firm commissioned by PLDM to design the building), the contract documents are now ready. These will support the application for the building and other permits from the city’s Building Official Office.

The recently-vacated PLDM Annex will be demolished as soon as permits are secured and a demolition contractor is selected. Work may last for at least 2 weeks.

In July, prospective construction contractors were invited to apply for pre-qualification to bid for the project via Sunday announcements. 38 groups responded and acquired the pre-qualification kit. Of these, 15 applicants submitted their intents and requirements last August 4. The documents went through technical, legal and financial evaluation to assess each prospective bidder’s capabilities to execute the project. The official list of qualified bidders will be known within August 2015. The Bidding Phase will be conducted in September 2015 and will be handled by the professional construction, group of Jose Aliling and Associates.

After all preliminaries have been completed, formal groundbreaking and start of construction is expected to be in October 2015.
