Gender and Health Project


• To improve health and health care through the development of a collaborative, web-enabled medical curriculum that integrates gender and health into all aspects of medical education.

• This integrated curriculum will be a common provincial resource for use by all Ontario medical schools.

The “Gender & Health Curriculum”

• Is an electronic, web-based learning resource• Was designed by and for:

– Ontario undergraduate medical students– Instructors in all domains of medical education– Curriculum designers at Ontario’s medical schools

• Was designed to be:– Engaging, thorough and flexible– Evidence-based

• Is available for use by:– Anyone with access to the internet


Concepts are conveyed

• In a text-based, multimedia-rich narrative

• With non-linear options for in-depth exploration

• Through multimedia presentations and videos

• Through interactive activities

• Through self-reflection exercises


The curriculum focuses on

• Setting objectives for each module

The curriculum includes

• Sixteen modules, covering:– An introduction to the role of gender in health– The role of gender in specific domains

(Cardiovascular Disease, Lung Cancer, Depression, Sex and Sexuality, and nine others)

– ‘Toolbox modules’ to assist learners in thinking critically about gender in other areas of health and medical education
