TCVA.org March 6- June 6, 2015 Community Gallery Hours Tuesday - Thursday & Saturday: 10am-6pm Friday: 12pm-8pm Pieces of the Puzzle An exhibition of the 2014-2015 Educational Outreach Programs of TCVA There are many pieces of the puzzle each a different aspect of the Educational Outreach Program of the Turchin Center for Visual Arts. Each piece strengthens community participation in the arts by creating an environment in which individuals of all ages experience the power and excitement of creating art with other people. Each program offers the underserved in our community to engage, discover, create and heal through the arts. This exhibit celebrates the process of art making, of free play in a safe, supportive environment that invites participants to respond to color, texture, and design in the world around them. Experience what happens when participants of all ages let go of the voice that says “but I am not an artist” and allow their creative spirits to soar. --Pegge DeLaney Laine, Education Outreach Coordinator Inaklious An adult open studio program that meets on the first and third Fridays of every month to explore the vibrant medium of alcohol inks facilitated by Pegge Laine. The Artist Within An Expressive Arts program led by Pegge Laine, for fourth and third graders in Watauga County Schools. Seven classrooms participated in a six week series last fall. A grant from BREMCO will provide an opportunity for these students to visit ASU touring the campus, and visiting the galleries of TCVA in April. Pieces of the Puzzle An exhibition of the 2014-2015 Educational Outreach Programs of TCVA

There are many pieces of the puzzle each a different aspect of the Educational Outreach Program of the Turchin Center for Visual Arts. Out of the BoxA Friday art experience specifically designed for students in the homeschool programs in our county. This class is led by Rosa Dargon Powers , an instructor at Appalachian State. It meets from 12:30-2 in TCVA Classroom 3200.

Healing Arts at Hospitality HouseClay, collage, drawing , drawing and painting provide an opportunity for residents call Hospitality House home, however briefly , to express themselves creatively and to heal the broken places within.

Tuesday at Turchin Designed specifically to provide an opportunity for ASU students participate in an open studio painting experience. Tunde Afoloyan, an internationally exhibited artist leads this opportunity during the months of September, October, November and February, March and April in 3200 from 7-9pm.

Young at ArtLed by Dr. Alyssia Ruggiero, an ASU professor and her students this program provides experiences for participants ages 3-6 to explore the world of color and design through a variety of mediums. This program meets for six weeks in the spring.

Beyond the Walls: Watauga OpportunitiesThis is an outreach opportunity which serves 15 differently abled adults in the region through a program at Watauga Opportunities. This program is coordinated by Pegge Laine in conjunction with Dr. Alyssia Ruggiero and her students.

Western Community CenterA new outreach initiative offers opportunities for senior citizen. This class meets at Western Watauga Community Center on Wednesday from 12:30 – 2pm. Participants are exploring the mediums of alcohol inks and collage.

Western Watauga Youth NetworkThis is an afterschool program on Wednesdays for Middle School students being served at the community center through the Watauga County Youth Network which serves at risk students. Pegge Laine leads a program designed to engage students with the arts as they rediscover the artist within in an encouraging supportive environment.
