SRIWHANA SPONGIDA-IDANew Zealand artist Sriwhana Spong presents a series of sculptures based on the traditional Balinese gamelan and a new film, shot in and around the artist’s ancestral home in Bali, Indonesia.

PAUL SIMON RICHARDSQUASI-MONTE CARLOAn ambitious new video work by London-based artist Paul Simon Richards, exploring patterns of randomisation and their role in the production of an image.

NICHOLAS WRIGHTA CHANCE TO LOOK AT CHICKENStudio artist Nicholas Wright presents two bodies of work produced over the last 30 years; his ‘mouse art’ and ceramic wall pieces.

TEST SPACEWHY ARE WE NOT HERE? Preview: Friday 3 May, 6–9pm (continues to 12 May)An exhibition exploring issues of institutional racism and marginalised representation in arts institutions by diaspora artists, curated by Rising artists, Stacey Olika and Anika Deb.

SPIKE PRINT STUDIOStudio members showcase their recent work including work in progress by Leonie Bradley, current Peter Reddick Bursary award recipient.

UWE BRISTOL FINE ART STUDIOSDARK MATTER AND KINOFine Art students present a themed event incorporating a range of media and activities, inspired by artist Gregory Sholette’s appro-priation of the term dark matter as ‘a missing mass’ of artists that are essential to the survival of the mainstream. Plus KINO, a filmic collaboration between Chelsea College of Arts and Fine Arts UWE.

ART IN MOTION (AIM), STUDIO 45Throughout Open StudiosAIM supports artists who face disabling barriers to practice as artists. Visit their studio for events including poetry readings by Dave Pearse, Paintoons paintings by Chris Rose, creating collage by Betty Sargent and talks by Jeff Johns and Jonathan Barr Lindsay.

INSTALLATIONS

KIARA CORALESNINE DEGREES OF RECENTRED ENCOUNTERS A sound installation responding to questions of home, identity, borders, and language. Part of the Test Space exhibition.

DONELL ASAREMICHAEL'S TRAILA poetry trail based around well-known Bristol landmarks, symbols and themes, exploring cultural diversity and uncomfortable truths. Part of the Test Space exhibition. Various locations.

VALDA JACKSON STILL HOLDING ON MURALA photomontage referencing the children of the Windrush generation, with accompanying audio monologue (link via QR Code) that brings the image to life.
