Examine the S-13 "Magic Bow" Tyer for damage that might have occurred duringtransit. If damage is evident, file a damage claim immediately with thetransportation company and also your 3M Representative.WARRANTY

SET-UP INSTRUCTIONS

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO READY YOUR S-13 FOR OPERATION.

1) Remove and discard two retaining fasteners and plywood base from under sideof unit.

2) Remove and discard rubber band from calibrated scale bar (G).

3) Loosen wing nut and position tying ribbon bracket (C) as shown in figure 1.Tighten wing nut to secure bracket position •

4) Loosen wing nut and position upper spindle arm (P) as shown in figure 1.Tighten wing nut to secure arm position.

5) To make bows, change ribbon or bow size, refer to the following proceduresin this manual.

) The first step is to mount thetying ribbon on the Tving RibbonBracket provided (C) and threadthe ribbon through the hole inthe back stand as shown. Yourtying ribbon is now ready foroperation.

2) Place roll or rolls of ribbon onthe Ribbon Spindles (D) by pushingthe spindle through the centergro=cet on the ribbon roll andthen locking it in place by re-placing the Stock Roll Retainer(B) on the ribbon spindle.

3) read the ribbon through theRibbon Guide (L). Slot #1 for

1/4" ribbon, Slot #2 for 3/4"and 7/8" ribbons, Slot 113 for5/8" ribbon and Slot 114 not used.

) Adjust Winding Arms (F) on the ScaleBar (G) one at a time. Move WindingArm toward end of scale bar to propersetting with even pull. Move wind-ing arm toward center of scale bar bylifting slightly with left hand andpushing with right hand. This re-leases the tension spring allowingeasier movement of arms.:OTE: For proper operation both wind-ing arms should be set in the sameposition. For example, 4-4, 5-5, etc.This will center the notch properlyin the bow.

5) Place ribbon in slot in windingarm. (Be sure ribbon is centeredproperly on winding arm.) Pullribbon through slot and slightlyover half the distance betweenthe winding arms. This assuresproper notching of the bow hank.

6) Turn winding arms required numberof turns with Winding Handle (A).(See Quick Reference Chart.) Besure to stop winding arms in theposition shown in the photo.

Note: Winding arm is shown inneutral position. Each time theScale Bar is turned past thispoint, a click will be heard andcan be used for counting the turns.

7) Clasp the ribbon with the left handand release with right hand theSlide Release (N). With both hands,push the Slide (K) into the cuttingjaws. Be sure to push back untilit contacts the rubber pad at rearof slide holder.

NOTE: It is extremely importantthat you hold the ribbon hank withyour left hand.

8) With left hand on ribbon hank,reach over with right hand andpull the Cutting Press Handle (M)all the way down. Return CuttingPress Handle to original position.This removes Cutting Blades (I)from ribbon hank.

9) With left hand still on ribbon hank,place right hand on the Slide Re-lease (N) and pull slide back tooriginal position. Once the slidereaches its original position, itwill lock in place.

10) Now pull and cut off approximately6 to 8 inches or 155 to 200 mm oftying ribbon as shown.

11) Thread the tying ribbon through thenotch on the ribbon hank and tie ina double knot as shown in the photo.(This is now known as a pre-fabbow.)

12) Remove pre-fab bow from the windingarms and cut off on the Bow RibbonCut-off Blade (J) as shown.

Pulling the Bow:

1) Hold the pre-fab bow (A) firmly inyour left hand, just below the knotand on the bottom half of the notch(B). Pull the inside loop out andup above the left thumb, unlockingthe notches so they won't slip backinto the pre-bow position (C). Re-peat, arranging loops above and tothe side to fill in the half bow.

2) Turn the bow around and repeat onthe other half of the bow (D). Itis most important to hold the pre-bow notches firmly, so when pulled,they will open completely.

3) Tie the bow (E) on the package andfinish arranging the loops asnecessary.

Loosen screws (one oneach side).

CUTIING PAD REPLACEMENT

1. Loosen wing nut.

5. Remove blades withthumb and forefinger.

2. Remove cutting padassembly. 3. Loosen and remove the

two screws that holdthe pad on the holder

4. Remove the cuttingpad from the holderand discard.

TO INSTALL THE NEW CUTTING PAD,REVERSE THE PROCEDURE.
