Get Moving Quickly and EasilyPredefined tank templates, tabular and graphical tank groups

Operator InterfaceFuelsManager Utilizes Microsoft's Windows 2000, XP or 2003 Server operating systems to provide real-time operational information to your operator on an intuitive, standard user interface. Your operators can view the status of a single tank or multiple tanks and are able to react quickly to changing conditions, alarms, or events within your facility. The dynamic operator interface now supports new Microsoft Windows XP features, including:

Task GroupsQuickly select the groups of functions you require using the left hand tree view.

Task Groups

Icon Toolbars & Tabbed ViewsOperate more efficiently by creating a toolbar based on the specialized functions you use. Window tabs allow you to quickly change between views.

Icon Toolbar and tabbed views

Tank DetailsFuelsManager includes several Tank Detail display templates. Each template shows tank data both graphically and alphanumerically. Data shown includes level, volumes, flows, density and alarms.Note! Product Movements can be accessed on the Tank Detail screens when the additional Product Movement option is selected.

Tank Detail Display

Tank GroupsOperators or system administrators can create and modify tank groups in real-time and choose which tanks and tank data are displayed in each group.

Static Tank GroupsThe tanks included in each static group are configured when the system is installed, although the operator may also add/delete tanks to/from groups or create completely new groups. The tanks included in static groups remain constant unless a tank is added, inserted or deleted manually.

Dynamic Tank GroupsIn this display the operator defines a filter (or condition) that a tank must meet before it is included in the Tank Group, e.g. level greater than 10ft, or product equals Jet A. Having defined this filter, FuelsManager then automatically adds and deletes tanks from the Tank Group based on the filter conditions. As with the Static Tank Groups, the operator can still define what data is displayed in which column and can save the group with a user-defined name.Using the dynamic Tank Group the operator can:• Define a Tank Group for each product and have

FuelsManager automatically add/delete a tank from a group when the product is changed.

• Define a Tank Group that shows only tanks where the flow is greater than zero, effectively creating a "moving tank" display.

• Combine conditions in a filter. For example, a Tank Group could be defined to show tanks with flow greater than zero and remaining transfer time less than 60 minutes. Operators would see a display containing moving tanks that are estimated to complete the transfer within the next hour (i.e. critical tanks).

Tank Group Display FormatsBoth Static and Dynamic Tank Groups support graphical and tabular views. The user can switch between the two views using a single hot key.In addition, the tank image automatically changes to reflect the tank shape defined in the FuelsManager database (i.e. vertical cylinder, sphere, horizontal). Additional data for a tank is available by either double-clicking on the tank to open the Tank Detail display or right-clicking and selecting "Process Data" from the pop-up menu. The graphical view displays a single (operator configurable) process variable per tank, along with a dynamically updating image of the tank contents. The display also indicates the presence and direction of product movement (flow) into or out of the tank.

A typical Graphical Tank Group display shown in OPERATE

A typical Tabular Tank Group display shown in OPERATE

Total and Subtotal rowsThe operator is able to fix the position at which the Total Row will be displayed in a Tabular Tank Group. This feature allows the total row to remain visible when the operator scrolls past the allowable 20 tanks per page.

In addition, Static Tank Groups support sub-total rows. These can be used to build static Tank Groups that provide sub-totalization of user defined tanks. For example consider, tanks 1-5 contain gasoline and tanks 5-10 contain crude. The operator could build a static Tank Group that included tanks 1-5 followed by a subtotal row, then tanks 5-10 followed by a subtotal row then a space and a final total row. This Tank Group allows the operator to quickly see the total gasoline, total crude supply and overall site product totals on a single display.

CalculatorThe tank calculator allows users to schedule and plan, based on “what if” scenarios. The operator can manually perform calculations, using current tank data, without changing any tank values. For example, "what the level would be if 10,000 gallons was added" or "what volume would be at the high level limit".

The Tank Calculator in OPERATE

TrendingBoth real-time and historical trends are available as a standard feature within FuelsManager. Up to 4 pens of data can be displayed per trend window. The data, process range, color and time scale can be selected per trend. Multiple trend windows can be opened simultaneously.

• Single temperature sensor can be assigned to all tanks

Note! FuelsManager accommodates a fourth-order polyno-mial for chemicals and specialized products to obtain a Vol-ume Correction Factor (VCF).

ApprovalsFuelsManager Oil & Gas and the 8130 Remote Terminal Unit are currently certified to meet NMi requirements for custody transfer applications. They are also certified for integration with the Honeywell Distributed Control System via the Process Management Serial Interface (A/HPM SI MODBUS FTA) and the Enhanced PLC Gateway (EPLCG-MODBUS).

SecurityFuelsManager allows administrators to set user privileges across the system. The following are some examples of user privileges:• Whether a user has add/edit/delete or copy

privileges to a database. • Which tanks are visible to which groups of users

through user-defined tag categories • Which alarms are indicated to which groups and

users via user-defined alarm categories • Who can display and create real-time graphics • Which users can modify the database • Which users can issue Operator commands

• Which users can acknowledge Alarms • Which users can create Reports User privileges can also be applied to a particular group of tanks, such as specifying that a group of users can modify the high-high and low-low alarm limits for tanks 1-10 but not tanks 11-20. FuelsManager system auditing allows system configuration actions to be written to a Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server event log for future reference. Networks are normally already protected against intrusion or are closed systems with no outside connections. Varec works with the facility’s IT department to configure the system according to the company standards. For most systems, Varec recommends the default security within a FuelsManager network configuration. This is the security level used by almost all customers, including the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

View, Modify and Control. All parameters can be controlled online through the industry standard Windows® user interface

ConfigurationFuelsManager stores all data for a facility in a central database. Groupings of related data in the database are defined as points. There are three types of points: tank, input/output, and triggered. Each point contains separate items of data, such as tank radius or roof mass. These data items are called variables. To configure a facility, you define the points for your site, and then enter or change variables (fields) in the dialog box for each point.

Database Points

Tank PointsA Tank Point is a collection of variables that defines a single tank in the FuelsManager database. Tank variables include over 40 predefined variables specifically designed for tank gauging applications. These variables include process data, engineering units, strap tables, volume correction methods, alarms, and tank geometry. Each variable may be manually entered, measured (connected to field instrumentation), or calculated (where applicable).Example Measured Variables• Level• Product temperature• Ambient temperature• Observed density• Standard density• Water level• Vapor temperature• Vapor pressure

Tank CharacteristicsSupported geometries include cone roof tanks, horizontal cylinders (with flat ends), bullets and spheres (both standard and polynomial). Tanks can either be configured with fixed roof or floating roof and calculations can include or exclude the floating roof mass in the strapping (tank capacity) tables.Minimum and maximum working levels can be set and are used to calculate available product and remaining tank capacity. Tank capacity tables may be innage or outage (ullage) with unlimited strap entries per tank.

Product DefinitionAssigning a product to a tank in FuelsManager helps to prevent unintentional mixing of products. With one operation, all properties of a product are assigned to the tank.Product definitions are created, saved, edited and deleted using the resources command in the FuelsManager Configuration application. They are saved in the Product Index and then assigned to Tank points. In addition to the Name and Description of the Product Definitions, you can also set the Correction Method, Standard Density, and Temperature Limits. You can have different options for each Product.

OPCOPC server support in FuelsManager provides:• Collection of field data from remote I/O, PLC, and

other devices via Varec or 3rd party OPC servers• Access to measured and calculated tank data via LAN• An interface to host systems (DCS) that provide an

OPC client• Easy configuration of interchanged data using one

dialog box

OPC Data AccessFuelsManager implements the OPC Data Access specification used to move real-time data from PLC’s, DCS’s, and other control devices to HMI’s and other display clients. FuelsManager currently supports the following OPC specifications: OPC Data Access v1.0 (OPC DA 1.0), and OPC Data Access v2.05a (OPC DA 2.05a). The OPC DA specification defines interfaces for

both OPC clients and OPC servers. Typically clients are HMI or other data gathering/display programs, client applications can browse OPC servers and allow the user to select which OPC tags the client will read. OPC servers typically provide communications to/from devices further down the system hierarchy. OPC servers encapsulate the specific details of talking to the device(s) and provide a well defined set of OPC tags that the client can connect to. FuelsManager can operate simultaneously as both an OPC client and OPC server. FuelsManager can be an OPC client and communicate with OPC server for Tank Gauges, PLC’s and other remote I/O devices to gather data from the field. At the same time FuelsManager can be providing data to DCS’s and other business systems via its OPC server interface.

Control Your Liquid AssetsSCADA functionality, such as pump and valve control, allows you to control and monitor your facility

SCADAAn entire tank farm can be monitored and controlled using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) connected to tank farm instrumentation and control devices, such as flow meters, pumps and valves. Each area of your facility can be shown on a custom graphic display, providing your operators with complete control of pipeline receipts, hydrant system control, independent high-level alarm systems, Emergency Fuel Shut-Off (EFSO) and leak detection systems.

Input/Output PointsInput and output points are mapped to instrumentation and controls such as push buttons, meters, pumps and valves. The use of input and output points in addition to tank points, facilitates complete automation of a tank farm facility. Input points are used to receive data from generic field equipment, database calculations or manual input. Typically, these points are used to hold data for equipment that is not tank specific (i.e. pumps, values or motors). However, they can also be used to store tank information not covered by the FuelsManager tank point. Output points are used to transmit data from the database to field equipment. Typically, outputs are derived from an operator issuing commands, however, they can also be derived from an internal calculation process.

Triggered PointsTriggered points are used as an intermediary between other points. Triggered points are typically used to monitor database input from a gauge. Once the connected point changes, the triggered point sends the changed information to another point, such as an output point for an OPC server or a PLC.

Designed for the Way You OperateUser configurable tank detail templates, displays and reports can be modified for your specific business operations

Custom DisplaysCustom site displays or site overviews can easily be created using tank symbols or digital images within FuelsManager’s Draw utility. The Draw utility contains a graphical symbol library that can be used to create custom displays. Custom displays can be created or modified without exiting FuelsManager or shutting down or restarting the system. Example custom displays could include site or SCADA overview displays.

Monitor for Leak ConditionsIntegrated statistical analysis of historical data designed to detect possible leaks from underground storage tanks to EPA standards

Leak DetectionThe leak detection application supports three modes of leak analysis: (1) static, (2) continuous and (3) real-time.

StaticStatic leak detection analyzes the archive database to detect leaks for tanks that have been inactive for a test period during which the tank was taken out of operation.

ContinuousThe continuous leak method analyzes quiet times in the archive database for the selected tank. This analysis method does not require the tank to be taken out of service as long as there is enough quiet time during the test period to meet the test requirements.

Real-timeThe real-time leak method performs continuous analysis at a periodic interval and initiates an alarm if the leak rate exceeds a configurable limit. When using this method, the application may be configured to print a leak report at the end of each month.

time display• Change of color and visibility based on field changes• TrueType scalable font capability• Full color support• Screen dump to color printer• Support for up to 1400 x 1050 screen resolutions• Graphics creation using symbol library

SecurityFuelsManager allows the administrators to set user privileges across the system.User privileges determine:• Whether a user has add / edit / delete or copy

privileges to a database.

• Which tanks are visible to which groups of users through user-defined tag categories

• Which alarms are indicated to which groups and users via user-defined alarm categories

• Who can display and create real-time graphics• Which users can modify the database• Which users can issue Operator commands• Which users can acknowledge Alarms• Which users can create ReportsUser privileges can also be applied to a particular group of tanks, such as specifying that a group of users can modify the high-high and low-low alarm limits for tanks 1...10 but not tanks 11...20.FuelsManager system auditing allows system configuration actions to be written to a Windows 2000/XP event log for future referenceNetworks are normally already protected against intrusion or are closed systems with no outside connections. Varec works with the facility’s IT department to configure the system according to the company standards. For most systems, Varec recommends the default security within a FuelsManager network configuration. This is the security level used by almost all customers, including the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Languages SupportedFuelsManager is available in English, Spanish and Japanese (traditional and simplified). Custom graphics, tank details and reports can be configured in English and Spanish. Languages other than English may require local specific versions of Windows 2000/XP.
