Maths This week in Maths we will be……

In the first 2 weeks we will concentrate on adding.

Practice To help with adding try practicing the following:

✓ Practice counting up to a given number ✓ Practice counting down from a given number✓ Practice counting from different starting points.

An idea on how to encourage counting from different starting points is for the adult to point and count themselves, adult then points to child they then say the next number, adult points back and child continues counting and so on.

Tip: Use the language of First, Now and Then to help your child with adding more in real life contexts. Making maths stories helps your child with adding.

Building!!

Roll a dice, whatever number it lands on will be how many cubes/blocks you can add to your tower. Count as you add the cubes/blocks.Estimate how many you think you can get to before the tower tips over.Was you correct in your estimation?

If you don’t have a dice write numbers 1 to 10 on pieces of paper, put them in a bag and pick one out one at a time.
