Yet again, a great turn-out of motorcycles in the July Show, with the quality of machines on display making the job of judging a huge task for our judge, Lloyd Benton.

Bike Details: This in-line four side valve is a very rare machine, with only one model K in the UK. The rebuild took 14 years to complete, with many parts fabricated by the owner.

1925 Levis T3 2115 Pre 1950 Lightweight

Bike Details: Levis were manufactured by Butterfields of Birmingham, for many years one of England's leading manufacturers of two-stroke motorcycles.

1925 Rex Acme TT / Brooklands 2¾ 13 Pre 1950 Lightweight

Bike Details: This type of machine was used by WL Handley to win the 1925 Junior TT at an average lap speed of 65.02 mph, and a lap record of 65.89 mph. Fitted with a Blackburne engine.

Bike Details: In as found condition, believed to have Brooklands history (O'Donovan and Denley) lots of internal engine and gear box work carried out. Engine and frame numbers match factory records.

Bike Details: First registered November 1928, this is the first time at this show.

1938 Rudge Sports Special 50041 Pre 1950 Competition / Special

Bike Details: The Sports Special 500cc model was introduced in 1937, production ceased in 1939. This example has been rebuilt twice, first time from a basket case where parts were missing, the second time after an accident in 2000.

1940 BSA M21 60064 Pre 1950

Bike Details: A sturdy side-valve single cylinder machine, ex-WWII dispatch rider's machine.

1947 Vincent Rapide 99859 Pre 1950

Bike Details: Fitted with a 1954 Steib sidecar, clubman's sidecar outfit - known as The Fast Lady and is well known in the Vincent OC. The engine is number 15, and is the oldest post-War engine in use in Europe. It was raced in the sixties, and the owner has known it since then, when he used to race sidecars. The steel sidecar body was replaced with an aluminium one. Acquired by the owner in 1998 and restored, some modifications have been carried out (disc brakes, multi-plate clutch, Suzuki generator and 12V alternator, 5-speed gearbox, 16" wheels with sidecar tyres, lowered suspension) but it's been kept true to its sixties concept. Regularly used for overseas rallies.

Bike Details: Bought as a pile of bits in the early sixties and rebuilt in road trim. Although a trials model, at present in road trim, fitted with road tyres and gearing, period dual seat and low level exhaust. In regular use. First registered on 9th February 1949.

Bike Details: Restored in 1981 from an incomplete basket case. Member of London Douglas MCC.

1953 Moto Guzzi Airone Sport 25010 1950-59 Lightweight Overseas

Bike Details: The Moto Guzzi Airone (Heron) was one of Italy's most popular 250cc motorcycles. About 27,500 were manufactured from 1939 - 1957, with the more powerful and faster Sport version being introduced in 1949. The Sport could reach a max. of 73 mph. The Airone was imported to the UK in very small numbers, almost special order only, by Bob Foster M/C's of Parkstone, Dorset. They were very expensive, with a 1953 new price in the UK of £205 0s 0d. In comparison, a new Triumph Speed Twin of the day cost £203 3s 4d.Imported and UK registered in 2015, it's had only 5 owners from new, having spent most of its life around Florence.

1955 BSA Cyclemaster 3219 1950-59 Lightweight

Bike Details: First registered on the 21st January 1955, it was bought last year and restored by the current owner. First time at this Show.

1955 Norton 99 60044 1950-59 Competition / Special

Bike Details: A Norton Dominator 99 600cc Café Racer one-off special.

1956 BSA Gold Star DB32 35032 1950-59

Bike Details: A barn find with no documentation or registration, this machine was rebuilt & restored during 2008/9 with many new parts. The engine left the BSA factory in a CB32 4000 series Scrambles frame on 4/6/56, the fate of this unregistered frame is unknown. The current frame came from a 1956 BSA31 350cc which was delivered to Raymond Motors of NW London on 19/11/56. The bike was registered for road use with an age related registration number on 18/3/09, regularly ridden & exhibited since then.

1957 Bown "50" 4757 1950-59 Lightweight

Bike Details: The Bown "50" Hand built for the connoisseur by the Aberdale Cycle company Ltd.This machine has had two previous lady owners and was used intermittently until 1983 and was subsequently stored in a heated garage. It is in excellent working order with the majority of the paintwork, gold pin lining, decals and chrome in remarkable condition for its age. It has the original tool kit, riders handbook and buff log book, on the road and running very well.The Aberdale Cycle company originated in South Wales and moved to Edmonton London in the mid fifties, focused on quality it was more expensive than the competitors like Raleigh, Phillips, Norman etc, this resulted in declining sales, the Aberdale company became a part of Tube investments in 1958 who controlled Raleigh and as such they phased out the Bowen to ensure Raleigh sales.

1957 Norbsa Cafe Racer 50017 1950-59 Competition / Special Lightweight

Bike Details: Cafe racer engineered and built by Rod Foakes over a period of many years. Most of the larger parts were sourced at autojumbles. Fasteners etc were machined from stainless or titanium and alloy. 1957 Norton Dominator wideline frame, needle roller converted swing-arm. The forks are from a Yamaha SR500, front wheel hub from a Suzuki G750. Fitted with Triumph conical rear hub and alloy fuel and oil tanks. The engine is a DBD34 500cc Gold Star with an A10 gearbox with modified needle roller layshaft. It's got a Triumph 4-spring clutch, 1½" Amal Mk2 concentric carb, It has 12V electrics, with the battery mounted at the back of the gearbox. Fitted with alloy rims & stainless spokes, the paint is by JB Services.

1957 Scott Red Squirrel 5969 1950-59

Bike Details: This is an early example of the 'Birmingham' Scott that was produced by Matt Holder (Aerco Jig & Tools) from 1956 to 1972. Owned by the current owner for over 50 years, purchased in 1963 for £80-00, it was used as everyday transport for the first eight years of ownership.



1958 Ducati Grand Prix 12556 1950-59 Lightweight Competition / Special

Bike Details: Unfortunately all Ducati race records were destroyed in a fire some years ago so there is no firm evidence of the bikes history. However it is believed this bike was one of the four Grand Prix racers entered by Ducati in the 1958 TT and ridden by Luigi Taveri who retired whilst lying second due to a broken piston ring. Ducati pulled out of GP racing the next year and sold off their race bikes to private owners after, in some cases, removing the special Desmodromic cylinder heads. Ducati were charging prices in the region of £1500 in 1959 which was some 4 times more expensive than a Manx Norton!This machine is presented in good original condition including hand beaten alloy fairing and seat but with one or two concessions to current regs for Historic Racing events including modern tyres.

1958 Velocette Viper 35054 1950-59

Bike Details: Purchased new from Stevens in London for £210.10.6d by the current owner's Grandfather. First time at this show.

1959 AJS 31L 65065 1950-59

Bike Details: Fitted with a Watsonian GP sidecar. A local registration, first registered on 3 January 1959.

1959 BSA Gold Star DBD34 50035 1950-59

Bike Details: First registered 2nd October 1959.

1959 Norton Jubilee-De-Luxe 25028 1950-59 Lightweight Lightweight

Bike Details: The Jubilee was launched in late 1958 and was named to mark Norton's 60 years as a motorcycle manufacturer.

Bike Details: This is an ex-works machine ridden by Jeff Smith, three times winner of the British Experts Trial. It was ridden to victory in the 1963 event.

1960 Norton/Benelli SEI 75034 1960-69 Competition / Special

Bike Details: Norton/Benelli 6 cylinder. Built and ridden by owner. First time at this show.

1960 Velocette LE 19229 1960-69 Lightweight

Bike Details: In private ownership from new, mileage original. Three owners, not restored. First time at this show.

1961 Triumph 3TA 3503 1960-69

Bike Details: First registered on 1st February 1961, this machine was bought at Kempton Park on 25th January 2014 in a very sad state. Restored by the owner, nut and bolt from the frame up and built to how he wanted it to look and ride. All tin-work was missing. Only the frame powder-coating, and the wheel-rim chroming was put out to be done.Ridden to the Show. First time at this show.

Bike Details: Matching engine and frame numbers. Show room condition. First time at this show.



1961 Triumph/Matchle Bitsa Café Racer 65025 1960-69 Competition / Special

Bike Details: With the present owner for over 40 years. An ongoing project, the Triumph T110 engine was fitted in 1968.

Bike Details: This is a rare model, number 150 of 212 made for export.

1963 Moto Guzzi Galletto Avviament 19211 1960-69 Lightweight Overseas

Bike Details: The Galletto (Cockerel) a motorcycle or scooter? This vehicle offered 'the best of both worlds' with the weather protection, comfort & enclosure of a scooter & the riding position, stability & braking performance of a motorcycle. With a total production of 40,250 examples of the 192cc model, it was originally conceived to compete with the success of Vespa & Lambretta in the post-war years. This was the final variant of 5 models, manufactured from 1961 - 1966. It was Moto Guzzi’s first 12 volt electric start motorcycle, using a 75 watt belt-driven Marelli dynastart. With horizontal 4-stroke ohv engine it has a top speed of 85 km/h (53 mph). Unusual in 1963, it has a single sided swinging arm & interchangeable wheels. Rare in the UK.

1964 Kerry Capitano Gran Prix 482 1960-69 Lightweight Overseas

Bike Details: Assembled in England, the Kerry Capitano Gran Prix was fitted with a Minarelli engine, which was its big selling-point. With 3.1BHP it was the fastest lightweight on the market, far outstripping its rivals from Norman and Phillips fitted with the 2BHP Villiers 3K engine. The present owner bought one new in 1962, and bougth this one for nostalgic reasons when it became available.

1965 BSA Bantam Special 2504 1960-69 Lightweight Competition / Special

Bike Details: This is a special, it's a BSA D7 Bantam with fitted with a Sunbeam / Triumph Tigress scooter engine. First time at this show.

1965 BSA Bantam D7 17312 1960-69 Lightweight

Bike Details: Restored in late 2015, its first outing was to compete in The Westward Ho! Night reliability run. It completed the 130 mile event faultlessly and did not miss a beat. Used for local club runs.

1965 BSA C15 24962 1960-69 Competition / Special Lightweight

Bike Details: A trials machine, modified and used regularly in pre-65 events.

1965 Norton Atlas 75033 1960-69

Bike Details: Electronic ignition was fitted in 2003 and the engine was rebuilt in 2007.

1967 BSA Bantam D10 Sports 17552 1960-69 Lightweight

Bike Details: Popular two-stroke lightweight.

1967 Matchless P11 75023 1960-69

Bike Details: Brought back from the States and restored in 2002. Well used for Club, National & International rallies all over Europe, including Italy, Poland and Ireland.

1967 Matchless G15 CS 75040 1960-69 Competition / Special

Bike Details: This is a factory hybrid model fitted with a 750cc Norton Atlas engine, Norton forks and wheels.It left the factory on 19th October 1967 for US importers JB Corp. New Jersey for sale as a 1968 model. Restored by the previous owner.

1968 BSA Bantam D10 Sports 25051 1960-69 Lightweight Special

Bike Details: Fitted with Ariel Arrow Sports Engine and twin leading shoe Honda front brake. Believed to be one of only three in the country that has been converted. Runner Up in the Competition / Special Class at our Ashford Show this Easter.



1968 Triumph Bonneville 65036 1960-69

Bike Details: Delivered from Meriden to Victor Horsman in Liverpool on 7th May 1968, I became the third owner in June 1971 and have owned it ever since. Appearing in various trims, I had it converted to run on unleaded petrol in 1998 - a big mistake as it never ran properly again! Eventually in 2011 the engine was rebuilt by the late Hughie Hancox, the last rebuild he ever did. It was rebuilt to standard with low compression pistons, the head having been skimmed in the past and is now a nice, nostalgic ride.

Bike Details: This is a USA import with just over 17,000 miles on the clock. Not in bad condition for an unrestored 46 year old bike.

1970 Triumph T100S 5007 1970-79

Bike Details: Essentially, development on the 500cc Triumph models ended in 1970, by which time the T100S was the best option and was considered to be 'the one to look out for!'. Minor mods for the owner's pleasure.

1970 Triumph T120 Bonneville 65043 1970-79

Bike Details: Manufactured on 13th August 1970 (luckily a Thursday!), this is one of the final original UK specification T120 Bonnevilles. A few weeks later the design changed to ‘Oil In Frame’.The bike was delivered to Athertons of Liverpool, who exported it directly to Pakistan. The bike was repatriated in 2000 in a very sorry state. It's been completely restored by the current owner to be ridden and enjoyed. As one of the final original UK spec T120 Bonnevilles, this version is often considered to be 'Best of Breed

1971 Greeves Pathfinder 17515 1970-79 Lightweight

Bike Details: This Bike was bought as a box of scrap, a rusty frame and engine all in bits in a cardboard box. Ti was rebuilt/ restored to its currant state by Mike Howes who had previously worked as a mechanic for The Greeves works in the days when Brian Stonebridge and Dave Bickers were works riders. Mike has unfortunately passed away - I am lucky enough to own it. First time at this show.

1973 Triumph TR7 75038 1970-79

Bike Details: This is a rebuilt ex-Police bike (The Saint) painted in Jubilee colours. Loads of new bits and first time at this show.

1974 Honda CB250 G5 25026 1970-79 Overseas Lightweight

Bike Details: This machine was registered new on the 1st of February 1974 in the Perry Barr area of Birmingham.It was in regular use for three years until the road tax ran out and it was basically dumped in an old shed.It was bought for the sum of £50 pounds by the previous owner, Martin, who trailered it home to restore.This was back in late 2014, he has done a total restoration, all nuts and bolts were replated, new paintwork tyres/tubes and new silencers etc.. what a job!Martin felt another restoration coming on, so I bought the machine. I have added my detail touches, decals etc. but it’s 100% as new.The bike has added just one mile in the last forty years, and I’m sure would be as reliable as back in 1977.First time at this show.

Bike Details: Manufactured in 1974 and sold by West London Motorcycles during 1975 and bought by the current owner in September 1980. ran it hard and took it off the road in 84. Box phase then restored for the road again and completed in 2014.

1978 Honda CB250T Dream 25021 1970-79 Lightweight Overseas

Bike Details: Produced in April 1978, one of a limited number made before they changed to the Super Dream. Restored to original condition and will be ridden to the show.

1978 Kawasaki Z1R 101530 1970-79 Overseas

Bike Details: Brought from Spain in 2000, doesn't do winters! Never seen a British winter - unrestored and totally original. First time at this show.

Bike Details: First registered on 8th September 1980, it was purchased by the current owner on 29th October 1982 with 8,272 miles on the clock.It's always garaged and has never been restored, and was SORN'd from August 2008 to August 2010. Covered less than 400 miles since August 2007. Its last MOT was on 10th August 2016, with 18,951 miles.
