PARISH NEWS
HOLY SAVIOUR SENIOR CITIZENS – All meetings are cancelled until further notice. For everyone's safety we think this is, unfortunately the best course of action. METANOIA - Due to coronavirus concerns, Metanoia events will be cancelled until further notice. We hope to re-evaluate the health situation around the county near the end of the month and get back up and running as soon as possible. Thank you and God bless!
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
As we have done in the past, the Rectory Office will close at Noon on Fridays until after Labor
Day, to give our devoted staff (not the priests!) a much-deserved little break during the summer.

OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL FEAST
As explained and promised in previous Bulletins, our plan is to discuss the Feasts, during this most unusual summer, with the Mutual Assistance Societies. The first is the Mount Carmel Feast, scheduled for July 19. The Mount Carmel Lodge has decided to not have their traditional Procession and Feast on their grounds this year, due to health concerns. More than ever, when we see all around us the destruction of images and an insane desire to "wipe out" history and traditions, we must remain faithful to the Truth we have received as Catholics, and the particular mode of expressing that Truth, according to our customs and the traditions of this beloved Parish.
What I thought was a very fine suggestion was made by the Society: to have the Mass on that day at Holy Saviour Church, where the size of the Church would enable people to feel safer in a much larger setting. After consulting the Sodality and those responsible for music at our beautiful Mission Church, we are going to go ahead with this suggestion. Although there are intentions for the Masses at Holy Saviour that day, which must always be fulfilled, there is no reason why we cannot also honor Our Lady of Mount Carmel at one of those Masses, sing Her hymns, and honor Her Image.
Therefore, I am pleased to announce that the celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of our Mission Church, and of those of our parishioners from the city of Benevento, will take place at the 9:30am Mass at Holy Saviour Church on Sunday, July 19. The members of the Sodality, of the Mount Carmel Lodge and all the devotees of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and of the "Madonna Grande," whose Image we obtained from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bridgeport, are urged to attend this Mass.
JULY: MONTH OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD
"Unlimited is the effectiveness of the Precious
Blood of Jesus. Just as unlimited as the love that impelled him to pour it out for us, first at his circumcision eight days after birth, and more profusely later on in his agony in the garden, in his scourging and crowning with thorns, in his climb to Calvary and crucifixion, and finally from out that great wide wound in his side which symbolizes the divine Blood cascading down into all the Church’s sacraments. Such love suggests, even demands, that everyone reborn in the torrents of that Blood adore it with grateful love." (Pope John XXIII: Encyclical on Devotion to the Most Precious Blood.)
"THE ITALIAN TRIBUNE" NEWSPAPER
I have mentioned to you before the weekly newspaper, "The Italian Tribune." Again, I do not receive any commission on sales! However, it is a very fine paper, with weekly articles on the various regions of Italy and their cities and culture; recipes for the dishes of those regions; religious news; coverage of the various Feasts of the Saints throughout the country and many artistic and informative articles. I mention it again this week, because they are particularly devoted to the preservation of the truth about Christopher Columbus, which is important to share with our young people. A subscription is $47.00 per year. Their website is: www.ItalianTribune.com. Their address is: 271 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Suite 4, West Orange, NJ 07052.
FEASTS
We are being asked about the plans for our
three traditional Feasts: Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Holy Saviour and the Madonna del Soccorso. We will certainly celebrate the Feast Masses on the traditional days: Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 19, 10am at our Mission Church; Holy Saviour: August 9 at 11:30am; Madonna del Soccorso, August 16, 11:30am.
Concerning the Festivities and Processions
associated with these Feasts, as they get closer, I will consult with the heads of the Clubs/Societies as to what they wish to do.

SAVING OUR SOULS “I think all Christians would agree with me if I
said that though Christianity seems at first to be all about morality, all about duties and rules and guilt and virtue, et it leads you on, out of all that, into something beyond. One has a glimpse of a country where they do not talk of those things…Everyone there is filled full with what we should call goodness as a mirror is filled with light.”

My Work Schedule
Although we are now in the “yellow” phase of virus restrictions, I will not be in the rectory or making home visits in the foreseeable future. I continue to work full-time at home and am available by email. I am also checking my phone at the rectory on a daily basis. I am able to drop off and pick up documents for applications, as well as groceries and medications. If there is anyone you are concerned about, I will be glad to speak to them by phone.
Help for Homeowners and Renters
The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency
is working with the CARES Act to provide financial assistance to people who can demonstrate loss of income during the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications become available on 6/29 and may be submitted starting 7/6. For more information, please call or email me.
Updates for Rent and Property Tax Rebates
Checks have already begun to be distributed
to help seniors and other qualified applicants through the COVID-19 crisis. Checks are being distributed to applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline to file for the 2019 rebate has been extended through 12/31/20. If you would like my assistance applying, or to learn if you qualify, please call, or email me.
LIHEAP Grant Related to COVID-19
LIHEAP has created a new crisis assistance
program. The program is already open; it will end once funds are spent...so don't delay! Grants of up to $800 are currently available, as is assistance with repair of heaters or other equipment. Unlike the annual Crisis program, households will be eligible if they can produce a past-due bill. A shut-off notice can also be used but is not required. Contact me to learn if you qualify.
