Each Participant - Ask Yourself:

1. What does Diversity look like (mean) to me?

2. How is it about me, and not about someone else?

3. What are the most urgent problems and how might we address them?

Let’s think about….

What can I do – on this campus - for the community – for the state - to advance missions related to this work?

• In my own work

• In my community

• With my colleagues and peers

Etc…..

UW-Madison’s prior Diversity Plan ended in 2008

• Previous plan focused on recruitment & retention, specifically for reasons related to race/ethnicity/gender.

• Definition of diversity has been expanded, re-considered, in the context of social, economic, political and historical perspectives (to name a few).

Framework for Diversity based on…

UW System – across the state:Diversity: • Individual differences• Group/social differences

Inclusive Excellence: • Shared leadership• Responsibility• Accountability.

DIVERSITY AS A RESOURCE

EQUITYDIVERISTYEXCELLENCE

UW Madison – Strategic Framework:

Vision: • Model Public University• Resource to the Public

Quality of life in our community: • Welcoming• Empowered• Inclusive
