Cal/EPA State of California Former Salinas Manufactured Gas Plant Site 2 Bridge Street, Salinas Fieldwork to take place from April 2015 to June 2015 Purpose of this Work Notice: The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is distributing this notice to inform the community that Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will be conducting additional environmental investigation work at 2 Bridge Street in Salinas. This work is being done to gather more information on the extent of impacts to soil from a manufactured gas plant that operated on the property from 1879 to 1929. This work will be conducted in three phases with each phase lasting one week or less beginning on April 6, 2015 and ending in June 2015. Each phase of work will be conducted between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and includes: Field Work Date Collecting soil gas samples from existing soil gas probes for chemical analysis by an off-site laboratory April 2015 Drilling and collection of soil samples using a truck-mounted drill rig April - May 2015 Excavating and backfilling exploratory trenches using a backhoe or excavator to further investigate subsurface conditions; disposing soil removed from trenches at approved off-site facilities; and general site cleanup after work is completed June 2015 Data collected from this investigation will be used to develop clean up options for the site. All work will be overseen by DTSC and performed in accordance with DTSC approved workplan and industry best practices to protect on-site workers and the public.
