1. Activity progress and challengesDRC :
Operation and maintenance of water points in Banki. This includes chlorination i.e bucket chlorination at hand pumps waterpoint and batch chlorination in solar powered water points.
Repair of broken down water points Drilled and equipped 20 handpump water points and one solar
powered water point since July 2017. Constructed 150 emergency latrines and 80 emergency showers
since July 2017. Repair of 45 blocks of emergency latrines and showers was
completed in existing camp DRC in the process of drilling and equipping 2 solar powered
water points in new camp. 40 hygiene promotion billboards to be installed in diverse
locations in Banki by mid-April 2018. 50 sanitation kits to be distributed in Banki by mid-April 2018
FHI360 : Hygiene promotion through 60 community-based volunteers. Rehabilitation of 4 solar powered water points was completed. 2
of them are in existing camp and the other two in new camp. Formation and training of Water points committees was
completed in 2 sites in the existing camp while training for the other 2 WASHCOM will be done once the new camp is inhabited.
400 waste bins (240L capacity) will be distributed once they are fixed with wheels.
Participated in World Water Day celebrations in Banki IDP camp Completed rehabilitation of 32 blocks of sanitation facilities. Planning to replenish 4,000 hygiene kits in Banki by end of April. General camp clean-up being conducted on Saturday’s. 100 sets of IEC materials were distributed in Banki IDP camp There is a plan to train national staff on water quality monitoring
which will be followed by training of camp-based community

volunteers. The camp-based community volunteers will be tasked with water quality monitoring at household level.
MSF Planning to upgrade 2 handpump water points with solar system.

2. Waterpoints with high nitrate contents MSF shared map showing waterpoints with high nitrate
content. It was observed that beneficiaries were putting up
independent sanitation facilities on inhabited plots within the camps and some of the plots were close to water points.
MSF planning to decommission some of the water points with high nitrates level.
DRC sensitising community on health hazards of putting up sanitation facilities close to water points.
