In 1999, the Ontario college undertook a review of the l i terature,

to develop a series of educational modules on the impact on the en-vironment and health.

Were a cautious group, and we rarely speak out without a founda-tion of evidence to back up what were saying.

The evidence that was available to us was in the l i terature.

We found evidence of harm from exposures to pesticides . [ ?!?! ]

We were particularly worried about pregnant women and their fe-tuses being exposed to pesticides, as well as infants and children.

In 2002, Dr. Sheela Basrur, then the medical officer of health in To-ronto, conducted a study looking at the effects of house and garden

pesticides on h uman health.

Dr. Basrur found similar effects and began the process of developinga bylaw banning the use of pesticides for cosmetic purposes in To-ronto.

We are very concerned about pesticides and their effects on adults,but their effects on children really worry us kidney cancer,brain cancer, haematological tumours such as nonHodgkin's lym-

phoma and leukemia, and increased risk of leukemia if the child isexposed in utero. [ ?!?! ]

In closing, the OCFP would reques t that the reference to municipali-

t ies be dropped so that our cit izens and cit ies can pass more health protective pesticide by laws if they so choose.

We would l ike to see the GOLF COURSE EXEMPTION REMOVED AS WELL .

There are many examples across Canada of very successful golf courses that are pesticide free. [ W RONG ! ]

And we would l ike to see the other prescribed uses exemptionremoved as well .

We are concerned, l ike our nursing colleagues, that this exemption

will undermine everything that the legislation hopes to ach ieve.

Our closing message to you is the same as th e one we give to our pa-tients pesticides should be avoided whenever and wherever pos-sible.

Cosmetic bylaws need to be passed, and they need to be strong.

The BOGUSOCFPReview is merely a deceptive ENVIROMANIACJUNKSCIENCE docu-ment that consisted of simply a CHERRYPICKING of some of the most recklessly negativereports regarding pest control products.

What is not explained is that the evidence consisted of some epidemiological studiesshowing a WEAK ( in most cases, a VERY WEAK ) link between some pest control productsand cancer.

Moreover, one of the PEER REVIEWERS of the BOGUSOCFPReview was not aware that hername was on the report until it was published, and then denied she had reviewed the re-port.

A prominent PEER REVIEWER of the BOGUSOCFPReview was a doctor who was foundguilty of professional misconduct over sexual activity with a female patient during psycho-therapy sessions. This OCFPManiac was even SUSPENDED from practicing medicine.

The BOGUSOCFPReview has absolutely NO CREDIBILITY in the legitimate scientific com-munity.

The BOGUSOCFPReview has been INTERNATIONALLY DISCREDITED.
