There are many Web 2.0 tools and websites available to use with students in the classroom, and the list is growing all the time. This class will give participants an introduction to two new Web 2.0 tools during each session that can be used to increase engagement and learning in the classroom at all instructional levels.

YouTube is a website utilized in many classrooms, but many teachers are only familiar with YouTube at a basic level. This class allows participants to learn and explore the conveniences associated with having a YouTube channel, including how to begin to build their own channels and collect content so that it is easy to access when needed.

You purchased the camera, took the pictures and now what? Learn how to download, edit, crop, enhance, color correct, store and archive your images effectively and efficiently. Create a slide show to share with friends and family or create a digital album. All participants will make a personalized calendar which are great for gift giving. So get out there and start taking pictures. This is one class you won’t want to miss. Bring your camera and USB cable to class along with a willingness to learn. Basic computer competency is required.

INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY

Starting out in photography can be a wonderful time, full of creativity and discovery. Unfortunately it can also be frustrating especially if the moments you see through your lens are not captured in your photographs. Let Darrell walk your through basic camera functions using both film and digital images. He will also provide tips and tricks on how to improve those snapshots.

MOSAIC BOARDS

Mosaic Art is an ancient craft of beauty. From start to finish you will be creating a piece of art reflective of yourself. Color, design and technique are all taught in this 8 week class. You will learn to use mosaic nippers to cut your glass and the grouting process. Take this class and you’ll soon be ready to mosaic everything in your house and garden! Push yourself outside the box and imagine the impossible and make it possible. All materials and tools provided resulting in a mosaic art piece suitable as a small table top, wall hanging or mirror.

Whether you are a beginner or a returning student this class is for you. Janice will be available to instruct new students and assist returning students. If you are new to the world of stained glass contact Janice for information on supply ordering and project ideas. Imagine! Create! From beginners to those more experienced working with clay, this class is designed for EVERYONE. Taylor will help build your skills on the potter’s wheel & assist with clay sculpting. Projects are limited only to your imagination, from cups, bowls, vases, piggy banks, bird houses, animals, imaginary creatures & more. Come to class ready to get dirty and have a good time.
NATIVE AMERICAN BEADING ART

Have you always wanted to experience the wonderful art of beading or are you a beader with an unfinished project? This is your chance to learn a new craft or brush up on your beading skills. Join Lynn on Tuesday nights for some beading fun as she guides you through such techniques as applique, Peyote stitch, lazy stitch and moccasin construction.

HAT MAKING WITH BILL
Instructor: Bill Briggs Dates: Thursdays, November 5 through December 10 NO CLASS NOVEMBER 26 Times: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Number of Sessions: 5 Location: CHS Hospitality Room Fee: $95 Learn how to make a felt hat with fur felt using traditional blocking and construction techniques, including trimming and shaping. The course introduces the technical skills needed for blocking and shaping felt. Sweatbands and hat bands will be added for that one-of a-kind touch. You can also bring in your old Stetson to be re-blocked and shaped. Each student will walk away with a hat to be proud of. Registration only taken over the phone or in person so we can get your hat size and material choices. Your $95 includes materials to construct one hat. Students wishing to purchase a higher quality felt can do so for an added fee. Felt choices and prices available during registration or by phone. This class is limited to 10 students so register early to secure a spot and so we are assured your specific felt color and size can be ordered before class begins.
DISAPPEARING 9-PATCH QUILTING
Instructor: Jennifer Arneson Dates: Wednesdays, September 23 through December 9 NO CLASS October 28, November 4 & 25 Times: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Location: CHS Sewing Lab, Room A10 Number of Sessions: 8 Fee: $30 plus the cost of your supplies Orientation: Wednesday, September 23
Sew a 9-patch block and then make the 9-patch disappear in this quilt class. Your end result will not look like you even started with the basic 9-patch block! Jenn will show examples of different 9-patch layouts at the orientation and help you determine the materials you will need for your personal project. Or perhaps you have a quilt you’ve already started but need to finish. Now’s your chance. Join the group for an evening of quilting fun and good conversation.
QUICK QUILT CONCLUSION If you have started a quilt and just need time to finish it, join the group and hopefully finish that unfinished project. Cost: $20

Instructor: Mindy Kohn Dates: Mondays, September 21 through November 9 Times: 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Number of Sessions: 8 Location: Castle Rock B&B (7412 Castle Rock Lake Dr.) Fee: $20 plus your supplies Materials Needed: A materials supply list will be available during registration or a basic kit can be purchased from the instructor for $25. Learn to knit! Knitting warm, comfortable, attractive clothing is calming to the mind and soothing to the spirit. This class covers needles, yarns and basic stitches with lots of time to practice, ask questions all while discovering the joy of this ancient craft. Mindy will begin by teaching basic skills and when you are done you will be the proud owner of a beautiful slouch hat. Whether you are a first timer or if you were in one of her beginning knitting classes and just one to brush up on your skills, this is the class for you. Gather with Mindy and others for a fun stress-free evening of knitting.
ADVANCED KNITTING Instructor: Mindy Kohn Dates: Mondays, September 21 through November 9 Times: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Number of Sessions: 8 Location: Castle Rock B&B (7412 Castle Rock Lake Dr.) Fee: $20 plus your supplies Materials Needed: Bring what you have. “WIP”, you know you have it—Work In Progress that we keep procrastinating to finish. Well no more! Find your motivation by setting time aside each Monday evening for crazy fun with your favorite knitting friends and an instructor who can help you past those pesky problems. Finish the class with a feeling of accomplishment! If you finish your WIP or are so amazing that you don't have one, don't despair, Mindy has plenty of supplies and inspiration to get you started on something fun. During this class Mindy will be gathering supplies for her winter project, The Dreambird Shawl! This is truly a work of art, but requires a lot of yardage of yarn. So let Mindy help you navigate that purchase this fall so you are ready for the winter session.

Increase your skills to take your High School Equivalency Exam with this individualized program. You will study the skills that YOU need in a non-threatening environment. Colstrip Public Schools is not a Hi-SET testing site. This course is a preparation class only. Jenn will help guide you to success in completing the Hi-SET test.
REMEMBERING THE 60’S
Instructor: Russ Davidson Dates: Tuesdays, September 22 through November 10 Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Location: CHS Room A-69 Number of Sessions: 8 Fee: $25 You know that 60’s history class the kids are always talking about? Well, its now available to you! Award winning teacher and history enthusiast Russ Davidson will share his knowledge of the 60’s in this noncredit version of the History of the 60’s class taught at Colstrip High School. The content will be student driven, taking the class wherever the participants want to take it. In general, the class will examine the world shaping events of the decade by engaging in a discussion format class. Some of the topics that might be included would be the impact of the Kennedy Presidency, the Civil Rights movement and how that aided in the growth of the women’s movement. You’ll examine the musical trends of the 1960’s from the girl groups to acid rock. Other discussions may include the role of the Cold War in shaping the foreign policy of the 60’s and how we were slowly sucked into a war in Vietnam. Whether you simply want to learn about the 60’s or reminisce about them, we hope the class will be groovy, solid and right on.

For the self-motivated and determined person. This early morning swim, in our heated pool, will help get your day started off just right. Work the muscles and joints without the hindrance of gravity. Swim laps, water aerobics, put on the wet vest and jog in the deep end or just float around and enjoy the water. If you don’t have a workout in mind, Becky can help you get started.
EXERCISE FOR EDUCATORS

Open to all but designed for the educator; this exercise class is conveniently located at the school for the school employee. The type of workouts we do will be driven largely by the request of class participants with a focus on cardio and stretch & relaxation. Come prepared with gym shoes and attire for an indoor or possible outdoor workout.

Get a great workout with NO IMPACT. A wet vest keeps you suspended in the deep water freeing you to do a variety of leg and arm movements with the added benefit of water resistance. This class is for everyone, whether you are a serious athlete or someone just embarking on an exercise program. Spend your evenings in the water with one of the three instructors and see how enjoyable a water workout can be.

SCANDANAVIAN COOKING
Instructor: Joanne Schrupp Dates: Thursdays, November 12, 19 & December 3 Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Location: FBMS Family Consumer Science Kitchen Number of Sessions: 3 Fee: $ 10 each or $25 for all three Gather your rosette irons and lefse turning sticks! We are going to gather for three nights of delectable Scandinavian goodies just in time for the holidays. Whether you remember these treats from your childhood or they’re entirely new to your vocabulary, you will enjoy a fun even-ing of traditional Norwegian treats and take some home for your family! Thursday, November 12th – Rosettes, a thin, cookie-like deep-fried pastry traditionally made at Christmas time using intricately designed irons Thursday, November 19th – Lefse, traditional soft Norwegian flatbread (my kids called it potato tortillas) Thursday, December 3rd – Krumkake, A Norwegian waffle cookie If you have the proper “equipment” for making any or all of these at home, and are willing to share it for the evening, please let Joanne know when you sign up.

Let Amy show you a number of delicious recipes that are sure to become family favorites for the holidays! This is a hands-on class so come prepared to cook and sample your delicious creations.

Ann brings 30+ years of aquatic experience with her to the pool so join her each Monday and Wednesday for a half-hour of instruction and fun. In this class, your child will learn basic water and swimming skills including: floating, breath control, beginning strokes and other water-related skills. Classes are small with personal attention given to each student. Have your child learn how much fun the water can be.
Registration only taken over the phone or in person! Placement in session 1 or 2 determined by the child’s age, and/or swimming skills. Limited Enrollment so don’t delay. Call when your brochure arrives.
“SPOOKTACULAR” TREATS

We’ll also make a fun Halloween craft, sure to delight young and old alike. Bring your child with you (age 7 or older please) and enjoy an evening of cooking and crafting fun. A fun evening of, “Spooktacular” treats will put you in the Halloween Spirit.
