Which Type Of Installation Is The Correct One For You?

LexisNexis Electronic Publications can be installed in 3 different ways:-

• Stand-alone (such as on a laptop or desktop).• Network (where many different PCs will all access the publication from a

central server) or;• Workstation (where a network installation has previously been completed

and you want to access the publications from the central server).

What type of publication that you are subscribed to?• A single CD based publication such as Statutes of Malaysia (SOM),

Malaysian Case Law Library(MCLL), Annotated Ordinances of HongKong (AOHK), Hong Kong Case Law Library (HKCLL), etc

• 2 CD based publication such as Singapore & Malaysian Case LawLibrary (SMCLL)

Stand-alone Installation A stand-alone installation is a CD-ROM based installation. For a single CD-ROM based installation, only the files necessary for folio views software will becopied to the hard disk of the computer. The CD needs to be remaining in theCD-ROM drive after the installation is complete, in order to access thelibraries.See page 3

For a 2 CD-ROM based installation, please uncheck the Run From CD-ROMoption for the second CD-ROM during installation. This is the recommendedoption for SMCLL publication.See page 6

Network InstallationAccessing the publications from a remote network hard drive saves space onthe local drive and gives reasonably fast performance (depending on you net-work configuration) for searching and general navigation of the publications. Itrequires enough hard disk space on the remote hard drive for the publicationand any publications you may want to install in the future.

Some files, such as the rights files, will still need to reside on a network harddrive.

You will also need to run workstation installation process on any other PCswhich need to access the publications.See page 9

Unlocking LicencesLicences may expire from time to time or you may alter the licencing optionsthat you originally purchased. In either event, you need to enable the licencesbefore continuing to use the publications.

You may need to unlock the licence once, unless you are installing the CD-ROM for the first time or if you uninstall the previous installation due to techni-cal reasons.See page 21

Updating Publications Publication titles will periodically be updated when a new CD-ROM is sent toyou by LexisNexis. If these have been installed to local or network hard drives,they will require updating but if they are running from the CD-ROM, the updateprocess is not required.See page 24

Follow steps 1 - 10 below to complete a stand-alone installation.

• You will be presented with a licence agreement, the terms ofwhich you must accept to continue.

• Select ‘Install Publications’.

• You will have the option to change the location to which theapplication and the publication files can be installed.

• The option to run publications from CD-ROM is not preset.Tick the checkbox ‘Run from CD-ROM’. This also means thatwhen you receive an update CD-ROM you will not be requiredto run any update process.

• Select the ‘Standalone Installation’.

• Select to install the latest version of Folio Views® by checkingthe ‘Folio Views® 4.3’ checkbox.

• Check the ‘Select All’ checkbox.

• Ensure that the summary correctly displays the choices youhave made up to this point before proceeding.

• If changes do need to be made, click the ‘Back’ button tobacktrack and make the changes you require. Once you click‘Next’, you will not be able to interrupt the application until theinstallation is complete.

Network Installation Instructions

We recommend that there are no other applications running before performingan installation. This includes Virus Scanners such as Norton and Inoculan, asthey can interfere with the installation process.

A Network Installation can be done in one of the two ways:

1. Hard Disk Based Installation: The Folio Views software, WorkstationInstallation Software and all the libraries selected for installation will be copiedto the location specified, on the Network Server. The CD will not be requiredafter Installation is complete. The amount of disk space required depends onthe libraries selected. Installation will detect the amount of free disk space onthe computer and calculate the space required for the libraries selected.

For the case of 2 CD-ROM based publications, (e.g. SMCLL) the networkinstallation must be performed on both CDs.

Follow steps 1 - 11 below to perform a network installation.

2. CD-ROM Based Installation: Only the Workstation Installation files, andthe files required to run the Folio Views software from the CD will be copied tothe location specified on the Network Server. The CD needs to remain in theNetwork Server after the Installation is complete, in order to access thelibraries.

Hard Disk Based and CD-ROM Based InstallationThe following steps may be undertaken either at the server directly or from an“installation workstation”. The same installation workstation must be usedwhenever the CD-ROM is updated, as important entries are made to its harddrive and windows registry.

1. Place the CD into the CD-ROM drive on the Server2. Click on ‘Start’ and select ‘Run’. 3. In the ‘Open’ field type: D:\Setup (where D is the CD-ROM drive letter).4. Press ‘Enter’ or click on ‘OK’.

• Select the ‘Install Publications’ option.

• Select the ‘Network Installation’ option.

• The default location is set to the local drive so you will needto change the path letter to your network drive where the pub-lications are to be installed.

• Important Note: The default folder name is LNNet_4. DO NOTchange this name.

• For CD-ROM Based Installation, check on Run from CD-ROM

• Select to install the latest version of Folio Views® by check-ing the ‘Folio Views® 4.3’ checkbox. Check the ‘Select All’checkbox.

• During the installation of second CD-ROM (e.g. SMCLL CD-ROM) a pop up message “Confirm File Replace” will appear. Click “NO” to proceed with the installation.

2. Create a shared target directory

• Share the directory where the Network (c:\LNNet_4) is installed so thateach user will have full READ/WRITE rights to this directory. Do this byright-clicking on the LNNet_4 and selecting Sharing.

3. Select the sharing tab and clickon Share this folder. Leave the Sharename as LNNet_4. Click on Apply fol-lowed by clicking on OK Button

4. Ensure that everyone has fullcontrol. Click OK until you return toWindows Explorer

5. Check that the LNNet_4 has a little hand on it. This is the sharing symbol

6. Create a mapping on the server.• At the desktop, right-click on the “My

Computer” icon and choose MapNetwork Drive

• Choose a Path or Drive: that is available for all the workstations on the net-work (eg: P:\)

• For the Drive: or Path: enter the Computer name of the server and theshare name of the publications.

• For example \\Sookkuin\LNNet_4

Workstation Installation Instructions

Preliminary

1. Create a mapping on the workstation to the server.

• At the desktop, right-click on the “My Computer” icon and choose Map Network Drive

• Choose the same Drive: that was chosen forthe server (eg: P:\)

• For the Drive: or Path: enter the Computername of the server and the share name ofthe publications.

• For example \\Sookkuin\LNNet_4

3. Run the installation program

• Click on ‘Start’ and then ‘Run’.

• In the Open Field, type: P:\setup.exe (where P is the drive letter used toperform the installation).

• Press ‘Enter’ or click on ‘OK’.

Follow steps 1 to 10 below to perform a workstation installation on each PC.

• Select ‘Install Publication’ option..

• Select the ‘Workstation Installation’ option.

• Confirm that the paths are correct.

• Select to install the latest version of Folio Views® by checkingthe ‘Folio Views® 4.3’ checkbox. Click the ‘Select All’ checkboxto install the publications.

• Please note: The publications have already been installed bythe Network Installation process. This will only put a programgroup into your menu, along with icons on your desktop, it isnot reloading any software.

Unlocking Licences

Licences for the titles you have installed may be set to expire after a period oftime, based either on the date or first use of the title. Licences may be limitedto a number of concurrent users. In the event that one of your licences hasexpired, or that you have purchased a licence for a larger number of concur-rent users, you will need to enable the licence.

Note: For Standard Network users, please contact us for furtherinstruction. Please follow the instructions if your installation is Laptop orDesktop

1. Ensure that CD-ROM is in the drive on the computer.2. Click on ‘Start’ and then ‘Run’.3. In the ‘Open’ field, type D:\setup (where D:\ is the CD-ROM drive letter)4. Press ‘Enter’ or click on ‘OK’.

Follow steps 1 to 7 below to unlock you publications.

• Select ‘Unlock Publications’.• Click ‘Next’ to continue.

• You may be presented with a licence agreement, the terms ofwhich you must accept to continue.

• Select the publication, “Singapore & Malaysia CaseLaw Library” and for the licence type, select either“Laptop or desktop” or “Standard network”.

• Click ‘Next’.• Please contact Tech Support for password.

• Read your password to the operator• Enter response in the ‘Unlock Code’ box.

Note: This response number can only be usedonce. If you need to install on a differentcomputer, you have to call Tech Support to obtaina new password

Updating Publications

If you have purchased titles that are periodically updated, you will need toupdate the titles installed to local or network drives when you receive the CD-ROM disks with the updated material. Publications that are run from CD-ROMdo not require updating. In the case of these publications, merely replace theCD-ROM to access the updated material – the old CD-ROM may now bediscarded.

1. Place the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive on the computer.2. Click on ‘Start’ and then ‘Run’ from the start menu.3. In the ‘Open’ field type D:\Setup (where D is the CD-ROM drive letter).4. Press ‘Enter’ or click on ‘OK’.

Follow steps 1 to 6 below to perform an update.

Manual WorkStation Setup Instructions (Folio 4.3)(Note: This is applicable ONLY for Windows 95 & 98 users)

This document is intended for those customers who either:

• Have successfully completed a network installation of all their LexisNexisCD-ROM publications

• Found the subsequent workstation installation not executing correctly(mainly isolated to some Windows 95 and 98 installs, which due to certaincombinations of systems and other software installed cause faults in theworkstation setup)

The workstation setup is a simple two-step procedure:

Step 1

Run workstation setup on a Windows 2000, XP workstation.

a. Firstly, run a workstation setup from either a Windows 2000,XP,MEworkstation but not on Windows 95 or 98

b. Make a copy of the shortcut by going to

Start Menu>Programs>LexisNexis >Publication>Singapore & MalaysiaCase Law Library as shown below: -

NB: Note that for NT workstation, you will not be able to right click and selectthe shortcut, you need to go to C:\WINNT\Profiles\All Users\StartMenu\Singapore & Malaysia Case Law Library to get the shortcut

• Right click on Singapore & Malaysia Case Law Library and go to “SendTo” and select “Desktop” (create shortcut). See below

• From the desktop, copy the Singapore & Malaysia Case Law Libraryshortcut onto the network folder accessible to Windows 95/98 users.

• From a Windows 95 or 98 machines, copy that Singapore & MalaysiaCase Law Library shortcut onto the desktop.

Step 2

Run setup on the Windows 95 or 98 workstation

• Map the network drive to the server. (See installation guide on mappingnetwork drive from workstation). E.g.: P:\(Server name)\LNNet_4

• Run the views autoreg.exe file from the install directory on the network inthe views 32 folder. [This will register the required Folio 4.3 DLLs on theworkstation machine.]

• Run the two registry information files HKCU.REG and HKLM.REG on theworkstation from the root of the install directory. [Theses files will allowviews to be run with the customized LexisNexis Folio 4.3 preferences.]

The final stage is to test the workstation(s). Simply click the Singapore &Malaysia Case Law Library Shortcut on the desktop of the workstation and thecorresponding publication should open.
