OUR STORY

The festival was founded solely by Emma Twamley, a freelance event specialist and one of #100women Exeter. An experienced fundraiser, Emma is self-motivated with a proven ability in event management, planning and communication. Responsible for developing Glas-Denbury Music Festival, initially a school event, into an independent, multi award winning festival, Emma is solely responsible for all managerial and creative aspects, from Programming to Strategic planning, Production Management, Marketing, PR etc and many outside collaborations including #festivalsunite.

Emma is passionate about people and where she lives and strives to support South West artists, suppliers, food and production, always working to produce a 50/50 gender equality split throughout programming. Her skills lie in building teams and creating opportunities and the GlasDenbury team is made up of people of all ages who all share her passion and commitment to building a colourful, magical place for people to come together and share visions and shared ethos’. Emma gives opportunity to young and old and allows them to take on responsibilities they may not have thought they could achieve. Supporting community, local businesses, organisations and people with opportunities is extremely important to her as well as supporting fundraising for local and national registered charities.

Emma is excited to continue developing Glas-Denbury, building upon the successes of 2019, as well as working on new opportunities for her team.

SUSTAINABILITY

ACCESSIBILITY

Glas-Denbury is a member of Festival Vision 2025 and has sustainability high on its agenda. Endeavouring to lead the way in event sustainability in the the South West Events Scene, working hard to reduce it’s footprint on the land and set an example to others, it reduces emissions attributable to travel and transport by running free shuttle buses and encouraging attendees to leave their cars at home or car share where possible. It works with 100% South West suppliers across the event, with all food concessions South West based, using locally sourced foods and sustainable practices. In 2016 Glas-Denbury banned plastic cups, introducing reusable cups across the site and in 2018 the festival banned single use plastic, straws, utensils, plates etc including the sale of plastic bottles. All festival goers are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles, use eco-friendly bags and all traders are expected to use eco-friendly utensils and serving options. Rigoorous recycling takes place across the event and as a result, a reduction of 25% was seen in waste production in 2019. GlasDenbury will continue to work towards being as sustainable as it possibly can be.

Glas-Denbury has worked hard to increase accessibility, an event where all are welcome with a high standard of facilities and assistance provided to all. It is passionate about being inclusive for all and is committed and passionate about endeavouring to fulfil any of their guests’ requirements and to help where they can in making their time and experience at the festival as easy and enjoyable as possible. We provide a Changing Places on site, offering toilets, electric hoists, adult changing beds as well as Baby Bloom Cocoon offering a space for families with young children and all the services they will need. Complimentary personal assistance tickets, viewing platforms, communication assistance, accessible entrances, quiet areas and transport assistance between the camping areas and the arena are just some of the many facilities the festival offers. With a dedicated accessibility team, it ensures their guests needs are met as much as possible and each year we develop the facilities available on site, based on feedback and suggestions from our guests.

“This was our first family festival, and we had such a brilliant time. There was so much to do for adults and kids (ours are aged 2 & 5), great choice of food, and good camping – loads of space in the family field. In fact, I was v impressed by how uncrowded the whole festival & camping was – ie, there were clearly lots of people, and the atmosphere was great, but there was no cramming in, meaning that kids could leave your side a little and not get out of sight. Staff great too, and the whole thing was exactly as promised – felt very safe & welcoming. Will def be back in 2018!” Stef

“Fantastic little festival. plenty to do for the whole family. a good range of food including vegetarian and vegan options. all of the food vendors were well versed in allergies and we’re very helpful with all our enquiries. Very helpful and polite staff. The toilets were clean which is unheard of at festivals. There were plenty of different acts to cater for pretty much everyone, but the best thing was that everyone was respectful and cleaned up after themselves. Lots of people enjoying themselves and not over indulging. can’t wait to come back next year” Justin

“Anyone who has fond memories of Glasto but can’t face the idea of the crowds and the mud with small people, Glas-Denbury might just be the festival for you. Celebrating the South West’s talented musicians, artists, writers and entertainers, it’s a family friendly music festival on green fields. Nominated for several awards, the festival organisers are committed to making it “comfortable, safe, happy and inspirational” – it’s definitely on our list this year”! Stephanie Darkes – Devon Life

“What a fantastic, well organised event. My favourite thing this year by far. Plenty for both adults and kids. The many acts were just fabulous. Great atmosphere, great food and well priced as were the drinks. Will definitely be back next year” Mel Whisky
