Families and the Gospel ~ Matthew 16:13-20 Jesus put Peter in charge of the Church and expected
him to be a leader even though he was imperfect. Every
parent is imperfect but Jesus expects us to lead our
family despite our personal faults. Imperfection is not
an excuse to neglect our role. It is our challenge.

Prayer for a New School Year Lord Jesus, we ask for Your help as we begin this
new school year. Allow us to experience Your
presence in the many blessings You put before us.
Open our eyes to the new challenges and exciting
opportunities that this new school year brings.
Open our heart and mind to new friends and new
teachers. Give us a generous spirit to be
enthusiastic with our studies and courage to accept
new opportunities. Help us to be attentive to one
another and let us experience Your presence in our
new friends. Jesus, inspire us to do our best this
year! Amen +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?
“Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound
in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth
shall be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16: 19
THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
AS A WAY OF LIFE
“Or who has given the Lord anything that he may be
repaid?”
Romans 11: 35
Saint Paul reminds us of a central fact of stewardship.
We cannot give the Lord anything, because God
already owns it all. God made everything. All that we
can do is return a portion of God’s many gifts back to
Him. Sincere gratitude for our gifts opens our hearts to
joyful generosity!

Liturgical Reflection: August 27th
Following the blessing and giving of rings, a hymn or canticle
of praise may be sung by the whole community. The
Celebration of Matrimony concludes with the Universal
Prayer. The ritual offers two options. In the absence of the
deacon, the couple may choose someone to pray these
intercessions. Also, the couple may create their own
intercessions along with the suggested petitions in the rite.
Perhaps there are family members or friends who are sick or
in the military, or any need that invites prayer could be added
to the Universal Prayer. The priest gives the invitation to
prayer and prays the closing to the General Intercessions.
Stewardship Reflection -21st Sunday in Ordinary Time
Christian stewards come to see everything in their midst
as awesome gifts. May you use these gifts “through
Him and for Him” to build up the kingdom of God on
earth.
Gifts from the Holy Land – Christian families have
worked over 2,000 years to protect the Holy sites in
Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nazareth, and to spread the word
of Jesus. For about the last 1,000 years they used
carvings to keep the Bible alive in dimensions. By your
support 200 families will be helped to remain in the
Holy Land. These gifts will be available this weekend
August 26th
and 27th
before and after all masses.
