Fall CTE Classes!
August/September 2017 Volume 7, Issue 1
Summer is over and Fall is
here to give us some time
to focus on our school
work. Below you will find
out more information on
the CTE classes that are
offered at SAVA-Firehouse
location.
CTE Classes:
Plant Science: Students
are working hard to be pre-
pared for the semester. Mr.
Lorance and the students
are prepping for aquaponics,
aeroponics, and traditional
soil growing. By the end of
the semester, students will
compare
each grow-
ing method
for various
vegetables,
herbs and
fruits.
Digital Video: Students
will capture video with
equipment from Gopro cam-
eras and drones. Editing
will be done with industry
software. Student will learn
iMovie, Premiere, and After
Effects.
Intro to Kitchen: This se-
mester’s classes are off to a
great start. Mr. Stein has
his students getting right
into preparing food and un-
derstanding their way
around the kitchen. If
you’re interested in enrol-

Inside this issue:
Fashion: Enrollment has
been booming in Fashion
and Design. The students
are keeping the momen-
tum going from last year’s
success and Ms. Skylier is
fostering her students’
inspiration. Students are
using tons of creativity to
get their concepts down on
paper. SAVA can’t wait
for this year’s fashion
show; it will be better than
ever.
Photography: You may
have noticed the photog-
raphy students around
campus taking pic-
tures. They are doing a
great job applying the con-
cepts Mr. Novaes is teach-
ing. It’s amazing being
able to see the world
through the lens of a SA-
VA student holding a cam-
era.
Ms. Shores: Lead Teacher’s Message
Hello all. I am going on my eighth year with SAVA and during that time I have
gotten to witness so much growth and great things happening within our program.
I originally started at the Power Inn location and then we expanded into North
Sacramento, at the Greater Sacramento Urban League. I worked at that location
for two years and then made the move to the Firehouse site. It is an amazing joy to
see the students engaged while on campus and enjoying
the different CTE classes they can be a part of. I love my
job and I love the students that I get to help on a daily
basis.

August Students of the Month! Nominated for being Student-Focused
Fiesta Back to School Night was a success! We had raffle prizes
where we awarded $20 Gift Card to Wall-Mart, a photo booth, and
yummy fiesta food. Students and parents had an opportunity to
meet their teachers and Mr. Elliott, our principal. It was
a night to remember! Lots of par- ents and students were able to
come out and enjoy their time with us!
Mr.Kyle Castleman
This is my first semester at Firehouse,
but I have been teaching for 6 years,
with over 3 ½ of those years at SAVA. I
love to teach as much as I love the out-
doors. Math is one of my favorite sub-
jects, but I also enjoy helping with all
subjects. Hiking and swimming are two
of my favorite hobbies.
