FOGLIA YMCA

WELCOME TO THE YMCA!We thank you for your continued support of the Foglia YMCA, part of one of the largest non-for-profit organizations in the United States. As a non-profit our mission is to develop strong children, families and communities across the Chicago area through academic readiness, character development, violence prevention, fitness and healthy living. We are so glad that you are a part of our community and joining us in fulfilling this mission.

Whether it is childcare, learning to swim, making a commitment to live a healthier lifestyle, enriching your child’s sports experience or tutoring help - we are your YMCA! We have a whole host of programs available sure to keep you and your family active, healthy, learning and having fun!

Although we have many exciting programs being delivered throughout the Fall, I wanted to take a moment to point out a few in particular.

Things will be spooky and scary at our Halloween at the Y event on Friday, October 23, from 6-9pm. Join us for a frightfully fun evening for the whole family! Remember to bring your friends; this is open to the community!

For Thanksgiving, we will be offering special “Turkey Buster” exercise classes to help you burn as many calories as possible before sitting down and ingesting your Thanksgiving dinner! Join us for classes beginning at 8am!

Also, join us for Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Sunday December 6 from 9-11am. We will be offering a pancake breakfast, pictures with Santa, holiday crafts and candy cane corner. This will be a great opportunity for kids to shop for their loved ones!

Be sure to get on our email list so you can receive our monthly eNewsletter to learn more about these upcoming events and more.

We look forward to seeing you at the Y! Here’s to a great and glorious Fall Season!

LEARN TO SWIM AT THE YFor many, the YMCA was where one learned how to swim as a child and for good reason. Since 1885, the Y has been a pioneer in swimming education. Literally millions of people have learned to swim through the YMCA's perfected program. In Y Swim Lessons participants learn and practice new swimming skills and feel a sense of achievement from mastering something new that they can enjoy the rest of their lives.

In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are used to build the child's self-confidence. Parents learn from the instructor's example how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise. So let's just pool it!

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:

Shrimps (6-8mos) Child can control their head and sit with support from the hands.

Kippers (9-12mos) Child can sit without hand support and stand with support from the hands.

Inias (13-18mos) Child can stand without support and walk with or without support or aid.

Perch (19-36mos) Child can run and jump. Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

Level 1 Pike With Parent Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This is a transitional class in which we will wean your child away from mom and dad. The next level from here would be Pike. Your child must be 3-years old during the session. Family membership is required to receive member rate.

ADULT FITNESS TESTING

CLASS AGE DAY(S) TIME FEES M/NMBody Composition Testing 16+ Times Vary $15/$30Fitness Assessment 16+ Times Vary $50/$100Body Composition Body composition is the amount of fat vs. lean muscle tissue in the human body. These are commonly expressed as a percentage of a person's total weight. Body weight alone is not a clear indicator of good health, because it does not distinguish how many pounds are from fat and how many are from lean body mass. Contact the Fitness Center to set up an appointment for a body composition test using the skin-fold measurement method performed by a certified Personal Trainer.

Fitness Assessment Each assessment includes a health screening that consists of blood pressure and resting heart rate measurements. This screening is followed by testing for body composition or measurement, cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility and muscular strength and endurance. A report assessing your current fitness level and an individualized exercise prescription are provided. Contact the Fitness Center to schedule your appointment with certified Fitness Specialist.

Kettlebell one tough class (in a good way)! No two classes are the same, the trainers change it up every week. If you like doing burpees, all kinds of swings, sumo squats, cleans and presses, and don’t forget turkish getups until you feel like you can’t possibly do more, this is the class for you! We leave every class ready to take on the day!

This includes making our programs available to all regardless of need – because at the Y, everyone belongs. You can help us in the cause. Change a life by making a gift to the YMCA. Because membership dues and program fees support our daily operations, your gift will go directly to serving children and families in need. The impact of your gift will be felt when:• A kindergartner starts school ready to

learn because he attended the Y’s early learning center.

• Kids have a safe, nurturing environment to go to after school and in the summer.

• A child learns to swim – a critical life lesson for all.

• A family is able to spend quality time together while focusing on staying active and healthy.

• A child loses weight – and enjoys it –because at the Y, exercise is play.
