FREE LUNCHES THIS SUMMER! People from a “bunch” of Highland area

churches, called the L.U.N.C.H. Bunch, will be giving out free, healthy sack lunches to children

each Monday & Wednesday May 27th - August 5th! No names! No forms! No judgment!

There is nothing you need to do as far as signing up. Youth just need to come to their nearest

delivery site at the scheduled time to receive a sack lunch while we all continue to observe social distancing and CDC guidelines. We will not be delivering door to door or outside city limits.

Although the L.U.N.C.H. Bunch program is not affiliated with the Highland School District we are making this information available to you because

we believe that this program would be beneficial to many in our community. If delivery sites or times change, we’ll let you know on Facebook. Let’s eat!

Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church

Welcome to one of the newest feasts in the Catholic Church! The feast of Mary, Mother of the Church, was established by Pope Francis in spring 2018. While the formal celebration is new, the honor is as old as the Gospels. Jesus spoke few words on the Cross, but several of them were ad-dressed to his mother and the apostle John. "Woman, behold your son." "Son, behold your mother." This means far more than simply someone

to care for Mary as she got on in years and someone for John to celebrate Jewish festivals with. John represents all of us, the Church. Jesus entrusted Mary to us as our mother. At the end of the historic Second Vatican Council in the midst of tumultuous times, Bl. Pope Paul VI formally declared Mary as Mother of the Church and invited us to pray to her under that title. With our recent celebration of the birthday of the Church at

Pentecost, we remember that every birth has a mother. Happy Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church!

This same Holy Spirit who came mightily on Pentecost comes to us. The same Spirit is in us, by our

baptism and confirmation—the same Spirit who transforms the apostles, who raises the dead, and who changes bread and wine into Christ’s Body and Blood.

That same Spirit gives us confidence in following Christ. “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children

of God” (alternate second reading, from Romans).

The Spirit brings many gifts, and one of them is the ability to see creation in its proper relationship to God.

This includes the crown of his creation, the gift of human life. The Lord and giver of life brings us to our

truest selves as he illumines us regarding the sanctity of life.

When we do not have this light of the Holy Spirit, the law of God seems like an imposition from the outside

that limits our freedom. People in the world sometimes think that we seek to restrict rights when we speak out against abortion or euthanasia. But the Holy Spirit with-in us attracts us to all that is right and good. We do not feel pushed where we would rather not go but rather

pulled by what is good and true and beautiful.

The Holy Spirit is also the Advocate who pleads our

cause. When he fills us, he makes us advocates for all

our brothers and sisters in need, including the most

vulnerable, the unborn.

1st of all, Bishop Paprocki’s dispensation from the obligation to attend Holy Mass on Sundays & Holy Days of Obligation remains in effect. Weekend Masses will

resume at normal times, following the Bishop’s instructions of celebrating Mass without a congregation, allowing 10 persons to be present during Mass who are doing the

ministries. Distribution of Holy Communion will be after each Mass. Those who are interested in doing any ministries should contact the parish office. Only 10 people in church

at a time. Holy Communion will be distributed after Mass has ended. Only 10 people in church at a time. After Mass Communion will be distributed as follows:

Saturday at St. Nicholas at 5:00PM; Sunday at St. Gertrude at 8:30AM and Sunday at Immaculate Conception at 10:30am.

The following guidelines are from Fr. Jeffery Goeckner, Alton Deanery Dean —Distribution of Holy Communion Guidelines

1.) In order to receive Holy Communion, you should have virtually viewed Holy Mass on TV or on Facebook or another source & prepared yourself spiritually to

receive the Blessed Sacrament.

2.) In order to assure a safe process, children who have not yet received their First Communion are to stay home or remain in the vehicle accompanied

by a responsible individual.

3.) Those who are vulnerable & at high risk are strongly encouraged to stay home and continue to receive Spiritual Communion.

4.) You must be present to receive Holy Communion. 5.) Lines will be formed with mandatory social distancing.

6.) No one is permitted to leave the parish campus without properly & reverently consuming Host.

7.) No one is permitted to take Holy Communion to family members or friends who are not physically present at the distribution of Holy Communion.

8.) When approaching the Holy Communion, you must wear a mask. 9.) Currently, we ask you not to receive Holy Communion on the tongue.

10.) After the Priest places the Host in your hand, you should step aside, temporarily remove your mask and consume the Host.

11.) You are to return to your vehicle after and offer a Prayer of Thanksgiving.

12.) You are then to leave the parking lot. You are not to congregate with others. 13.) Homebound and nursing home visitation is not permissible by lay ministers. In case

of emergency, contact the Pastor or the Parish Office.

There will be different situations & needs at each church that need to be worked out. I appreciate your patience with this process.
