A Word... Words from Pope Francis: “ If we listen to the
Holy Spirit, He will teach us this way of wisdom,
and will give us the wisdom to see through God’s
eyes, to hear with God’s ears, to love with the heart
of God, to judge with God’s judgment.”
In Praise of Wisdom
“He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep
pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the
heart, and in our own despair, against our will,
comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of
God.” (Aeschylus, 525-456 BC)
Written several centuries before Christ, these
words still hold true. Scripture tells us, “Let days
speak, and many years teach wisdom” (Job 32:7).
But we can speak of something even greater: the
wisdom that comes as a gift of the Holy Spirit (Is
11:1-2).
In a way, wisdom comes of its own accord; it can be pursued but never grasped; received but never
owned. Its beauty and efficacy as a supernatural
gift rests in our union with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit helps us to receive this gift of
wisdom. Yet there are inner hurdles to surmount
and obstacles to overcome. Our minds must be
renewed and our hearts converted at deeper and
deeper levels.
We pray that our limited minds, despite their incli-
nation toward hubris, will not be the final arbiters of
Truth, but that Truth itself will be its own unsurpass-
able witness. We do not pray that we will pos-sess Truth but that Truth will possess us, and that
our response will always be humility, gratitude, and
awe.
I pray that my heart be a willing and faithful servant
of Lady Wisdom, following wherever She leads,
renouncing the grasping, clinging, and spiritual am-
bition of my mind. It is enough to touch the hem of
Her robe…
It is true: we learn, we grow, we leave behind things in order absorb new ones. As our vision in-
creases, we let go of lesser truths so we can em-
brace the greater ones. The citadels must come
down, the masks torn away, the heart laid bare, the
inner vessel emptied that it might be filled—there is
always more. The horizon looms nearer with an
unearthly light. I do not know; I do not even know
what I do not know; but this I am certain: that if
Christ Jesus is lifted up, He will be all in all.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who
gives to all men generously and without reproach-
ing, and it will be given him” (James. 1:5).

MISSION TRIP
Guatemalan Mission Information Sessions—
An invitation to make a short term mission trip! In June/July of 2018, you will have the opportunity to join
other volunteer missionaries on a 12-day trip to
Huehuetenango, Guatemala. For nearly 15 years we have
had a sister-diocese relationship between the Archdiocese
of Omaha and the Diocese of Huehuetenango. Missionar-
ies who have experienced this relationship personally by
travelling to Guatemala, describe the trip as “an encounter
with the Living Christ” and “a profoundly moving” or “life
changing” experience.
Preparations have begun for our 15th
trip in the summer
of 2018.
If you would like to learn more about the mission of Ixim or
to consider joining next year’s mission to Guatemala, please
attend one of the upcoming information meetings:

ST. ROBERT’S PRAYER GARDEN
Jack Frost will soon be nippin’ at our
toes, but there are plenty of plants and
trees and shrubs in the Prayer Garden
that aren’t affected too much by the
first frosts. It is very protected in the
garden, so the mums and other hardy
fall flowers stay untouched through the
first few frosts, so come see them in
their blaze of fall glory while you still
can.
The Gardening Angels crew has begun to pull out some of
the summer annuals, and that work will continue for the next
few weeks. But we have perennials, shrubs and trees for you
to enjoy all winter long in the garden; each season has its
own beauty and wonder to enjoy.
STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
Next weekend, Nov. 4/5, the Steward-
ship Committee’s Welcome & Infor-
mation table will be in the Narthex after
Mass. You can register for the parish,
ask questions, fill out participation forms
and find out what is going on at St. Robert’s!
Call Veronica Wright for more information 402-334-2185.
A MEMORIAL IN THE ARBORETUM
A new landscaping project at the north entrance of the
church is developing. This site will be a memorial in honor
of 22 month old Colette “Coco” Haskell who passed away in
June from ATRT, a rare form of brain cancer. Her parents,
Paul and Kelly Haskell, are beloved members of St. Robert’s
parish and have two sons in St. Robert’s School.
It will be a place for families to gather, children to en-
gage, and for all to reflect on our many blessings, as well as
an enhancement for the parish grounds Arboretum.
A special thank you to our landscaping contractor Mausbach
Ground Maintenance, Tommy Mausbach, and Aaron
Borgmann for all their donated labor. The group worked
with Arboretum curator Mary McCawley. The memorial was
generously donated by the classes of 2025 and 2027.
