Four Methods Of Cutting

• Plasma Arc• Water Jet• Carbon Arc• Abrasive Saw

• NOT by oxy-gas

Plasma Arc Cutting

• Recommended method.• Material can be cut with

hand-held model (inexpensive)

• Plates can be cut from either side

• Consider plasma arc taper

• High definition plasma for greater precision

• Angled torch for countersunk holes

Material can be pressed or rolled with care

Cold Forming

• Rolling always in the same direction as the overlay beads.

• Convex recommended

• Concave with great care

• Pressing always with a radiused tool, never with a “knife”

Fixing Holes

Methods of attachment• Material cannot be

mechanically drilled or countersunk using traditional methods

• Either :– Plug welding– Stud Welding– Countersunk bolts– Pre-machined inserts

Fixing Holes

• Direct plasma arc piercing gives a perfectly acceptable hole quality for most applications

• A machined insert can be welded in place but is often a more expensive method
