FROM FR. QUINT

Today we mark World Day for Consecrated Life. My first

experience of religious sisters was of our native daughters from

St. Patrick Ryan who came home to visit and worshipped at Masses.

Since the Presentation sisters taught in our parish school, most of the

women called to religious life joined their community, although there

were a few Dubuque Franciscans as well. I admired their joy, musical

talent, and distinctive dress. Sr. Mary Damien O’Brien, PBVM gave

me some tips on registrations for the organ. She is now over 100

years old and still active.

Which religious sisters/brothers made an impact on you? The

Christian Brothers faithfully served at Beckman Catholic for many

years and the Dubuque Franciscans ministered at our schools. We

offer God thanks for their generous service and fidelity to poverty,

chastity, and obedience. We ask God to mold the hearts of those he

currently is calling to serve that they may answer. Please invite

young people to consider religious vocations.

Also please pray for those who are discerning a call to

priesthood. We have 10 young men from our cluster participating in

the Archdiocesan vocations event this week with Fr. Tyler! May they

prayerfully consider embracing celibacy and commit themselves to

serve the communion of the church. Come Holy Spirit!

Other Items:

Thursday is World Day of the Sick and the memorial of our

Lady of Lourdes. Come and worship at Mass or pray in our

churches for an end to the pandemic.

The Xavier Affair fundraiser was another great success. Thank

you to those who facilitated and supported it.

Pray for our students and parents participating in preparation

for First Communion.

I talked with Fr. O’Connor on his anniversary. He sounds great

and remains healthy.

We are planning to return to SS. Peter & Paul church for the

Triduum, beginning on Holy Thursday, April 1 (no foolin’ )

with the Good Friday liturgy there, and Mass on Easter

Sunday. Archbishop Jackels will celebrate Mass in our restored

church on Tuesday, April 13 at 7 pm. Mark your calendars!

Letter from Haiti

Dear Fr. Quint and Spires of Faith Cluster,

Sorry this is so late but I am the only priest for Holy Cross

Parish and the chapels, an assistant is promised at

mid February. I hope the year has started well for you.

For our part we were able to complete the 20192020

academic and start the new one. We hope to start exams

for the second period the end of January, but our country

is experiencing political unrest, insecurity and many other

problems. We are in uncertainty, but we trust in the Lord.

1) Regarding the parish: we have Mass (limited people

with masks), office services everyday, sick people to

visit, people to prepare for marriage, others to see…

thank you Lord for giving me strength.

2) At the Clinic: it is okay, we have a new program;

Childhood vaccination.

3) The School: it is fine. We have 3 new teachers at Holy

Cross School. The copy machine broke down, we

bought a printer which is limited. This year we have

680 students, 36 teachers, 1 janitor, 4 ladies on duty

for helping with kindergarten students, and 5 cooks.

4) For Soliette chapel we have 4 teachers and the director.

5) Palmiste Tempe, we started late this January with a

small staff and 3 teachers.

6) The Covid 19 At Fond Verrettes, no case has been

recorded for long time. But people are still encouraged

to take precautions and practice washing hands and

wearing masks. Covid19 has put distance between

people and hurt relationships may it soon be gone

forever. We can’t wait to have you come for a visit.

Thank you for what you have already done and will

continue to do for the Parish. You can count on our

humble prayers. We only have that to offer to you.

May God bless you abundantly.

Humbly yours,

Father Lubermann

Entrance Procession

Antiphon: Psalm 95 (94) 67

O come let us worship God and bow low before the God who made us, for

he is the Lord our God.

Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy

First Reading: Job 7:14, 67 (74B)

Job spoke, saying: Is not man’s life on earth a drudgery?

Are not his days those of hirelings? He is a slave who longs

for the shade, a hireling who waits for his wages. So I have

been assigned months of misery, and troubled nights have

been allotted to me. If in bed I say, “When shall I arise?”

then the night drags on; I am filled with restlessness until

the dawn. My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle; they

come to an end without hope. Remember that my life is like

the wind; I shall not see happiness again.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 147: 12, 34, 56

2

nd

Reading: 1 Corinthians 9:1619, 2223

Brothers and sisters: If I preach the gospel, this is no reason

for me to boast, for an obligation has been imposed on me,

and woe to me if I do not preach it! If I do so willingly, I

have a recompense, but if unwillingly, then I have been en-

trusted with a stewardship. What then is my recompense?

That, when I preach, I offer the gospel free of charge so as not

to make full use of my right in the gospel. Although I am free

in regard to all, I have made myself a slave to all so as to win

over as many as possible. To the weak I became weak, to win

over the weak. I have become all things to all, to save at least

some. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may

have a share in it.

Gospel Acclamation

(Matthew 8:17)

Christ took away our infirmities and bore our diseases.

Gospel: Mark 1:2939

On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon

and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s motherinlaw lay

sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He

approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the

fever left her and she waited on them. When it was evening,

after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed

by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He

cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he

drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak be-

cause they knew him. Rising very early before dawn, he

left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon

and those who were with him pursued him and on finding

him said, “Everyone is looking for you.” He told them, “Let us

go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For

this purpose have I come.” So he went into their synagogues,

preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of

Galilee.
