OUR NOTEWelcome to the MEGA issue!

Just when you thought that you wouldn’t hear from quint during the summer, we are back with a special treat! Not quite as big as usual (except the page size) but we thought it would be great to give you something to read on your summer holiday.

We also have a very valid reason for releasing this tabloid. Our good friend Mo Abedin from Foo Dog and creator of the MEGA has been very busy lately and he organized an amazing event at the Dubai Mall!

He invited 125 (!) artists, including our very own Gyula, to customize their own MEGA. We thought what better way to support his event than releasing this special issue of quint which will also serve as a guide for the exhibition. We have an exclusive interview with Mo and biographies of all the artists involved!

Gyula had a lot of fun creating his Wes Anderson inspired “Steve Zissou” MEGA. His desk was covered with paint, brushes, clay, glue and all sorts of weird artsy stuff. Check Steve out at the Dubai Mall between the 28th June and the 8th of July and also look for the quint MEGA!

Foo Dog has been helping the cool kids, of all ages, get in touch with their creative side since 2008 with the fun customisable MEGA toys.

Foo Dog’s Project MEGA, in association with the Middle East Film and Comic Con, will be hosting the Middle East’s largest designer toy exhibition featuring over 125 MEGAs that have been exclusively designed by 125 local artists.

The event will be held in four key locations around The Dubai Mall, with the grand opening taking place at The Dubai Mall Catwalk in Fashion Avenue on the 28th of June, and will include artists painting live, and will also feature live performances by DJ Bliss, Mr Shef Codes, and Nikotin.

Art collectors will also be given a great opportunity to purchase these one of a kind artist creates at a 3 day auction that will be held at Her Highness Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum’s Gallery, the FN Designs Studio in Al Serkal Avenue from 12 – 14 July 2012.

We caught up with Mohammed Abedin, founder of Foo Dog and creator of MEGA to get some insight into the world of vinyl toys, and Project MEGA.
