Santen announced the positive outcome of the Decentralised Procedure(DCP) for Taptiqom® in Europe. The announcement follows the issuance ofthe Final Assessment Report from the Reference Member State (RMS), theFederal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices of Germany (BfArM), andthe agreement of all the Concerned Member States (CMS) in DCP thatTaptiqom® is approvable.

The regulatory process will now enter the national phase of the DCP inwhich the RMS Germany and each of the CMS grants its national license.

Taptiqom® is a preservative-free eye drop solution (in single dosecontainers) of a fixed dose combination of the prostaglandin tafluprost (15micrograms/ml) and the beta blocker timolol (5 mg/ml). These twocomponents lower intraocular pressure (IOP) by complementarymechanisms of action and the combined effect results in additional IOPreduction compared to either compound alone. Taptiqom® was co-developed by Santen and Asahi Glass Co Ltd.

The LENSTAR LS 900 biometer: better surgicaloutcomes, every time

The LENSTAR LS 900 provides a completebiometrical assessment of the patient’s eye ina single measurement procedure, includinglens thickness, anterior chamber depth andretinal thickness.

Offering more precise K-readings than anyother optical biometer, the LENSTAR measurescloser to the central visual axis using 32reference points in a dual-zone of 1.65mm and2.3mm, providing accurate and reliable Ks.

Holladay I, SRK-T, Haigis and Hoffer Qformulas are built-in, as standard. Alsoincluded are; Masket, Modified Masket andShammas IOL power calculations for postrefractive patients and the Olsen formula, which uses C-constant for the calculation ofELP.

With the T-Cone optional topography add-on, the axis and astigmatism measurement of

LENSTAR is extended with true 11- ring Placidotopography, vastly improving toric IOL surgery.
