Dear Student

This is Minsthorpe Community College’s FREE Programme of Extra Curricular Activities for 2016 – 2017 for all students.

Whatever your interests we hope that this varied range of activities will appeal to you and inspire you to get the most out of college life. There are several new activities taking place over the academic year including the Minecraft and micro:bit club and a host of sport related activities. Are you ready to join in, do more and get more from your free time!

Remember that it is evidenced that taking part in opportunities like this improves your confidence, achievement and examination results. We hope that this will be true for you at Minsthorpe. Our extra-curricular programme is jam packed with a range of activities to suit a range of interests so that the College is able to demonstrate our whole hearted belief that ‘Everybody matters, Everybody succeeds, Everybody helps’

Your subject teachers, Cross Curriculum Team Leaders and Progress and Achievement Mentors will be telling you about the different activities. Just go along at the start of any of the sessions and make sure that you give your name to the staff leading the students. A register will be taken at the beginning of each session. If you’d like to know more about an activity before attending, simply speak to your teachers first.

The activities are after College, starting at 2.30pm and most of the sessions finish about 3.45pm so that you are not too late home. If you would like to see other activities included that are not in this year’s programme, please speak to me and we will see if it is possible to organise them for you.

During the year look out for new and different activities which will be organised for you. There will be Inter P&A Group competitions; Most Able Events; various Extra Revision Classes and numerous Sports fixtures. Your parents must complete and return a parental consent and medical details form if you want to represent the College, home or away, in a College Sports Team.

Remember to always tell your parents/carers where you are going to be and what time to expect you home. Please note that some activities within this programme may be subject to change throughout the year.

SPORTS AND FITNESS CENTRE

Here at the Sports and Fitness Centre we offer many extra curricular activities and have well established links with local

sports clubs/teams. We have rugby, netball, bowling and football clubs using the facilities as well as running both on and off site activity programmes during the college holidays.

Our Sports Hall offers first class facilities. We also have the latest 3G fully floodlit synthetic pitch which can

be used for almost any sport.

So, why not come to us after college and play sport, have fun and get fit!

Are you interested in playing a more active part inStudent Voice this year?

Would you like to make a real difference to yourCollege and community?

The Student Leadership Team would like you to join them in promoting and representing the College, enhancing home learning and

fundraising.

College Action Team meetings will be held after College monthly to plan this work. The dates, times and venues will be published through

P&A Times.

This is a great way to demonstrate your ability to be responsible, resourceful, resilient, reflective, use reasoning and show respect!

HUMANITIES

The Humanities area will also be putting on sessions on a needs basis for students needing help with

coursework and homework.

Individual students and staff will arrange these sessions.

MFL

The MFL department will be offering special extra-curricular events throughout the academic year.

They will be fun-packed and allow you to explore some aspects of the French culture!! Your French teacher will give you more details about the event nearer the time

so keep your eyes peeled for posters around the department and in your classroom.
