How did you attract/address your audience? The front cover attracts the audience as I used a white edging which frames the darker background of the photograph of the artist; it makes it bolder and looks clear so catches the audience’s eye. The title although being a thinner and more stylised font, the block capitals and colour choice of white against dark grey stand out as it highlights the magazine as different to others general front cover look with a bold masthead that can look very harsh and masculine- which was not the look at would attract my target market of stylers and mainstream groups. The bold close up of the artist on the front cover who is making eye contact with the reader also attracts the audience as it is a large photo that covers the entirety of the page. The styling of the model is clear through natural makeup and dark simple eye makeup and clothing also attracts the reader straight away as they can see it is an artist that looks similar to their own sense of style. This type of styling links to the idea of oh comely and vogue’s styling within the photography that they use. The monochromatic colour theme that flows through the entire magazine attracts my audience as they are lovers of minimal layout and colour themes. To stop it from being too monochrome I added a blue/green colour onto the contents and double page as I think the colours connotations of nature and purity would attract my audience without looking ‘cheap’. The interview that I created added an informal tone with a mixture of formal and informal layout. I don't want the magazine to have a specific formality I wanted to keep it natural so I used a neat and organised columned text on one side with a scrapbook style highlighted quote on the other side of my double page. The interview itself is a Q&A which is a typical way of interviewing an artist in magazines. Because of this popular interview style I think it will attract the mainstream audience that I am targeting, whereas the layout and style of the text attracts the stylers. Within the article I also include addressing the audience within the title, including the pun ‘a peony for your thoughts’ this makes the reader feel that they are included in the magazine and that it is specific to them.

The artists that I used and included as some of my interviews on the contents page also attract my target audience as they like the dream pop genre which is very typically seen in the charts. They like current and popular artists that create meaningful songs- including bands such as crystal fighters and Bombay bicycle club. The dream pop genre includes many secondary and sub-genres so the target market is really wide for this style which is needed when selling a magazine to increase consumers, fans and popularity.
