Its an action plan for prevention that aims at:

Reduction of biomass and the parallel reduction in the risk of forest fires

Guarding the forest at the period of time, that they collect resin

Understory cleaning and light pruning the area, that they collect, up to 20%

• Implementation of research and composition of managing plans by the Forestry Administration of our Region, as well as by free researchers

Technical contextTechnical context

• A production area for over 65 years since 1930 until 1993

• The history of tree – tapping , starts from ancient Greece

• The 1st reference concerning resin collection, that we have in our hands, has been found in a 17th century document.

• Over the last years techniques and means of resin collection are ever improving.

• Preparation of the basic parts of the ‘forest managing plan’, by the Forestry Administration of N.Aegean Region and individual researchers.

• Implementation of a workshop for stakeholders and representatives of relevant with the forest protection matters departments of the Region in order to exchange knowledge and aspects.

• Preparation of the managing plan related to the establishment of a ‘Forestry Cooperative Workmanship’

• Materials and tools, such as resin dispensers, bark-cutting tools, lugging buckets, hackers, lugging buckets uploadable on carrying livestock, turpentine stills, flat scoops.

• Professional workers and volunteers from the nearby area of the forests.

• The financing of the whole project of ‘tree tapping’ could be sponsored by the money the ‘Forestry Cooperative Workmanship’ will gain while selling the resin.
