How long do you think it takes to spend just under $12o million? What would you 1: buy/own/sell if you had so much money? Well, if you are one very rich and unknown 2: painter/art/artist lover in New York the answer is simple…You would buy a painting by Norway’s most famous artist, Edvard Munch for an amazing 3: price/fee/charge of $119,900,000!
The painting was sold at Sotheby’s Auction House in New York last week and has become the most expensive painting sold at an auction in history. The previous 4: lowest/biggest/highest price was for Pablo Picasso’s Nude Green Leaves and Bust which was sold in 2010 for $106.5 million. However, The Scream is not the most expensive painting ever 5: sold/bought/stolen that is believed to be Paul Cézanne’s The Card Players which was sold privately for between $250m - $350 million in 6: 1811/1911/2011.
Edvard Munch, the Norwegian painter of The Scream, actually painted 7: four/five/six different versions of the strange unhappy person walking along an Oslo path with a 8: blue/red/white sky behind him. The pastel version was the one sold at auction last week; the other three copies painted in oil, tempera and on cardboard are still in Norwegian museums.
Why was the painting so expensive? Art advisor Michael Frahm told Associated Press Agency that “Together with the Mona Lisa, it’s the most 9: known/famous/expensive and recognised image in art history. It has been used by everyone from Andy Warhol to Hollywood movies to cartoons and on 10: T-shirts/Soda cans/Mobile phones”.

museums in Norway. The first was stolen in 1994 from the
