The branch fell on and broke a picket fence before hitting the ground. Around Hoopeston, other limbs and branches fell, some landing on powerlines, which resulted in calls to Hoopeston Fire Department. Heavy rains flooded streets, but had mostly receded by Monday morning. As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, total rainfall was 4.35”, according to the Just the Facts weather station. Standing water on some rural roads resulted in Hoopeston Area schools being closed for the day. Wind gusts of more than 30 miles per hour were part of the storm, and a wind advisory was issued from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday as the front moved from the area. Playoff pairing announced Hoopeston Area/Armstrong-Potomac, at #12, will trav-el to face #5 Fairfield Friday in the first round of IHSA football playoff games. The Cornjerkers enter the contest at 5-4, with Fairfield at 8-1.

Volleyball girls face losses The Lady Cornjerker has faced losses in recent match-es, including losing third place to Armstrong-Potomac in the Vermilion County Tournament on October 18. In that match-up, the girls fell in two sets, 16-25, 21-25 in play at Georgetown. In tournament action on October 16, Hoopeston Area lost to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, 19-25, 25-22, 11-15. The Blue Devils went on to win the tournament, 25-23,23-25,25-11 over the Westville Tigers. Preceding the tournament, the girls hosted AP on Octo-ber 12 and lost, 10-25, 13-25. That loss put the ladies at 11-11 overall and 3-6 in the Vermilion Valley Confer-ence. On October 14, the team lost its second consecutive match to the visiting Watseka Warriors, 20-25, 13-25. From the Blotter David Cannon, 42, of Hoopeston, was arrested after police were called at 9:07 p.m. Sunday to the 500 block of South Second Ave., for a domestic disturbance. According to police reports, he was charged with do-mestic battery on a complaint from a 40-year-old Hoopeston woman and was taken to the Public Safety Building in Danville to await arraignment.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm on October 19, 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, and on Thursday, lost a hard-fought VVC match against Chrisman, falling 23-25, 25-21, 21-25. The ladies were scheduled to take part in the Mahomet Tournament Saturday and take on Westville in 2A re-gionals action Monday.

Fire Calls Hoopeston Fire Department was called at 7:20 p.m. to East Maple and Seventh St. for a report of power lines down and a transformer sparking. The department was called at 7:37 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of West Elm for a tree limb on a pole, pulling down power lines.
