Description: Teachers will meet in their PLCs to review student assessment data in order to develop their SLOs and IAGDs.

Location: Lillie B. Haynes

Learning Outcomes For Teachers: Elementary teachers will identify student learning objectives

and indicators of academic growth for their current students.

Student Outcomes: Students will have increased achievements in language arts and math.

Niantic Center School 12:30 – 3:30 Activity Name: Writing expectations in CCSSLA

Participants: Teachers K – 4, Special Education Teachers, and Library/Media Specialist

Description: Increase understanding of 6 + 1 traits of writing and their application to the writing modes.

Location: Niantic Center School

Learning Outcomes For Teachers: Teachers will increase their understanding of 6 +1 traits of

writing instruction and how these traits are incorporated into the various modes (opinion, informational, narrative).

Student Outcomes: Students academic growth will be enhanced by lessons and units. Students will be able to demonstrate their learning through appropriate specifically created activities as they experience CCSS/SBAC rigor in writing.

Reading Recovery 12:30 – 3:30 Activity Name: Reading Recovery Description: Participants will review webcasts and journal articles from

Reading Recovery Council of North America as well as Becoming Literate by Marie Clay to discuss strategies to accelerate developing readers’ skills.

Participants: Reading Recovery Teachers who are not involved in their school-based PD activity.

Location: Lillie B. Haynes

Learning Outcomes For Teachers: Reading Recovery teachers will continue to develop and

enhance their understanding of the best strategies, activities and prompts to accelerate developing readers’ skills.

Student Outcomes: As a result of this activity, students in the Reading Recovery

Program will become more accurate, fluent, and independent readers at an accelerated pace.

Physical Education

12:30 – 3:30 Activity Name: Physical Education

Description: Participants will meet with their district PLC team to review student assessment data in order to develop their SLOs and IAGDs.

Visual Arts 12:30 -3:30 Activity Name: SLO focused discussion and sharing group. Description: Elementary art teachers will discuss and share ideas concerning SLOs in

keeping with a unified approach to educating elementary students in art. Collaborating on common themes, concepts and skills, art teachers will develop SLOs that will help to align the elementary schools art curriculum.

Participants: Lisa Keller and June O’Connor

Location: Flanders Elementary School

Learning Outcomes For Teachers: Continue to learn from colleagues about their curriculums and goals in

order to create a more unified approach to the education of elementary art students.

Student Outcomes: Students will benefit from well thought out SLOs that are beneficial for

their continued growth and understanding in art. Students will leave elementary school with similar art experiences upon entering Middle School.

12:30-3:30 Activity Name: Speech Pathologists

Description: Scope and Sequence of Pragmatic Language

Participants: Sherry Turner, Ellen Downie, Heidi Grant, and Deb Lathrop

Location: East Lyme Middle School

Learning Outcomes For Teachers: Speech Pathologists will develop a scope and sequence that can be used

from preschool to high school to assist with planning instruction and evaluating student acquisition of this critical component of language. This will be session 1 of a multi-session PD to be completed in 3 sessions throughout the 2014-2015 school year.

Student Outcomes: Students will receive instruction that is delivered with fidelity and

developmental appropriateness to their present levels of performance related to pragmatic language. The impact of which will ultimately improve their social skills and ability to connect with peers and adults.

12:30-3:30 Activity Name: OT/PT

Description: Entry and Exit Criteria

Participants: Alicia Rose, Mary Kate Mundell, and Keryl Hallissey

Location: Flanders Elementary School

Learning Outcomes For Teachers: Occupational Therapists will begin work on guidelines for entry and exit

criteria for students receiving Occupational Therapy services preschool to age 21. The focus will be on developmental appropriateness of services and the model for service delivery district-wide.

Student Outcomes: Students will receive therapy that is goal oriented with clear goals and

outcomes.

Early Learning Standards into their planning and assessment of students. This will be session 1 of 6 PD activities to accomplish this goal.

Participants: Dawn Lemay, Lori Skelton, and Leslie Moffett Location: Haynes Elementary School Learning Outcomes for Teachers: During this first session teachers will focus on identifying key

components of the Language and Literacy Domain in relation to the CT Preschool Benchmarks and the alignment to current curriculum already in place.

Student Outcomes: Preschool children will be provided high quality learning

experiences that are goal oriented with clear trajectories of learning.

Middle School 12:30-3:30 Activity Name: Clear Expectations for Student Behavior in the Classroom Presenter: Consultants from SERC Location: East Lyme Middle School Participants: World Language Teachers, PE Teachers, Life Skills Teachers, Art

Teachers, Music Teachers, and Technology Education Teachers Description: Consultants from SERC will continue to facilitate discussions

around expectations, accountability, and follow through for students and teachers in regard to the management of classroom student behavior.

Learning Outcomes for teachers: Teachers will work together to fine tune behavior management,

expectations, and procedures specific to their team. Student Outcomes: This will enhance student learning in making them

aware of the clear expectations for the classroom.

Activity Name: Subject Area PLCs Description: Participants will develop, implement and share

innovative Common Core Standards, aligned units and lessons.

Participants will also review and revise common

formative assessments.

Participants: Math, Science, and Language Arts Teachers Grades 5, 6, 7 & 8

Learning Outcomes for Teachers: Participants will have well developed units that will

integrate the Common Core State Standards consistent across grade levels.

Student Outcomes: Students will learn through rigorous instruction in

curriculum which will promote higher levels of understanding.

coordinate and communicate events throughout school, and facilitate outreach to community.

Student Outcomes: Students will benefit from studying about Veteran’s

Day and interacting with Veteran community members.

Activity Name: Risk Assessment

Description: Risk assessment forms and procedures will be presented.

Participants: Guidance Counselors and School Psychologists

Location: ELMS

Learning Outcomes For Teachers: Counselors will be competent in procedures and forms

to be used Student Outcomes: Students in crisis will be assessed and action plans put

in place to help them through the crisis.

High School 11:30-2:30 Activity Name: Use of data to make informed decisions Description: This PD will be centered on using data to make

informed decisions. Support will be provided for using data to craft SLOs and IAGDs which will be due shortly after this PD opportunity.

Uses of data to support student learning will be

presented. Development, implementation, and utilization of data to improve practice and student learning will be explored.

Participants: ELHS Faculty Location: High School Learning Outcomes for teachers: Participants will be able to:

1) Use data to inform future instruction. 2) Use data to improve delivery of instruction. 3) Establish SLO/IAGD based on student

performance data. Student Outcomes: This will enhance student learning because:

1) Students will be delivered resources to improve their skills based on performance data.

2) Students will become more productive learners.
