Goal 1: Improve Middle School Math Proficiency Levels

Strategy 1: Test Preparation - Students at EKA spend most of their time learning using the Project Based Learning platform. This is vastly different from the format of standardized

testing. EKA students need additional supports to learn test taking strategies, understand testing language and learn basic testing rules so they can show their

acquired knowledge in the appropriate testing format. A team of teachers will prepare various activities to better prepare students for taking these standardized

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) tests. Students having a better understanding of the material, and being comfortable with the testing techniques,

have been shown increased proficiency in standardized testing.

Status Progress Notes Created On Created ByN/A Only non-proficient 8th grade students took the 8th grade SBAC exam. Proficient students took the

End of Course Math I exam.October 11, 2016 Ms. Abbe Mattson

N/A Initial SBAC results from the 2015 -2016 school year have been received and will be used to createrealistic goals for the 2016 -2017 school year.

October 07, 2016 Ms. Abbe Mattson

N/A No standardized testing information is available from the state to evaluate this goal. September 25, 2015 Ms. Abbe Mattson

Measurable Objective 1:10% of Eighth grade students will demonstrate a proficiency on the SBAC Mathematics test. in Mathematics by 05/26/2017 as measured by SBAC mathematicsexams.

Status Progress Notes Created On Created ByMet EKA Middle School math students outscored the CCSD district average. We will now focus on the

lowest performing grade area.October 11, 2016 Ms. Abbe Mattson

Not Met The goal for the 2015 - 2016 school year was unrealistic and not based on actual SBAC results.Going forward, we will be able to adjust our goal based on EKA student SBAC results.

Strategy 2: Parent Engagement - Parents are one of a student's greatest source of educational support. In order to leverage this support, sample SBAC problems and answers will

be sent home to parents so they can practice the needed skills and strategies with their students. During Family Engagement events, families will be given SBAC

results and given strategies on preparing their students for the tests.

Advisors will provide at least three weeks of intensive test preparation inmath to middle school students. This training will simulate the types oftesting, test conditions, and math questions they will experience during theactual SBAC tests.

Students will take NWEA Assessments online to simulate SBAC testing atleast two times in the school year. The first testing period will take placeduring the first quarter of the school year to provide a baseline for studentlearning. The second test results will be compared to the first to determineareas of strength and weakness for more focused student educationalsupports.

Therefore, advisors will receive professional development on different methodologies to support student success on SBAC tests.
