Dear All,

On behalf of English International School, we would like to thank all parents from EIS West and South-West who attend-ed Tuesday’s evening buffet to learn more about life in Secondary School and beyond. It was wonderful to bring our par-ents together to share in the next steps of the academic journey for the children. A special thank you goes out to our Secondary Students for their positive testimonials about their school life.

We have welcomed the Regional Head of Schools, Mr Michael Clack to Moscow this week and he has shared how happy he was to meet with all us and discover how we ensure our children receive the best of British education in our safe, challenged and happy schools. We look forward to welcoming him back in March where he will be visiting us once again from Manchester to share educational updates and guidance through our journey for CIS accreditation.

I hope you all enjoyed the Maslenista celebration as much as we did and that when we return after the half-term break we will be ready to welcome the Spring! I would like to leave you all with a holiday challenge—can you take a picture of you and your family reading in the most unusual place in readiness for our first week back, when we will be celebrating Mother Tongue and Book Week!

Kindest regards and happy holidays,

Nicola Hemingway

On Monday, the Student Council and the PTA worked together to create

our annual Maslenitsa Doll, in preparation for our celebration on Friday.

The PTA supported the children ensuring they created the perfect doll to

say goodbye to winter. The children all had lots of ideas as to how the doll

should look and with great team-work between the PTA and Student Coun-

cil members, I am sure you will agree the finished product was a perfect

tribute to say goodbye to Winter and hello to Spring!

A Big Thank you to all that helped !

Ski Lessons

During our lessons students in Key Stage Two improved their multiple skiing

skills. Everyone enjoyed the ski lessons and all students appreciated and

thanked the coaches for teaching such interesting and exciting lessons and

helping them to get better and gain more confidence on the snow.

Ski school is waiting for us next year.

Mr. Oleg

St. Valentine’s Day - Wednesday, 14th February

St. Valentine’s Day was a great success with many of the children and teachers dressed in red

and pink. Love was certainly in the air with many friendship cards delivered to the students dur-

ing the day from the student council.

We raised a wonderful amount of 8500 rubles for our charity of choice ‘Speransky’ Children’s

Hospital. We ended the day with some great moves and lots of dancing at our Valentine’s Day

Disco.

On Thursday, Year 3 ventured out on a chocolate adventure. This half term in English we have been studying the process of making chocolate, and in Topic we have been explor-ing the rainforests where chocolate comes from.

When we arrived at the factory, we had to make sure that we were safe, and that we didn’t bring in any outside germs. This meant that, we had to adorn hairnets, plastic aprons and shoe covers. Year 3 though Miss Ally resembled their grandmother in the outfit.

We then got to experience the process of chocolate making, from looking at the cacao pod, to the cocoa seed, and finally chocolate. We tasted our way around the factory, sampling reading made chocolate, and what chocolate tastes like before the sugar is add-ed.

“It was a bit sour” thought Andrey.

We were then able to make our own chocolate, filling up and emptying moulds, as well as using a piping bag to fill empty chocolate moulds.

We each got to take home our own chocolate sculpture, and I’m sure they will taste deli-cious!

Year 3 was commended on their behaviour and the knowledge they showed of making chocolate, all children represented EIS superbly

This week has been very busy at EIS Moscow West!

This week we welcomed Maslenitsa - one of the oldest and longest Russian festivals. Masle-

nitsa is celebrated for a week. Each day of the festivities has a specific theme around. On Sunday spring is welcomed by burning the Maslenitsa doll which represents winter.

On Monday Student Council members and PTA representatives enjoyed assembling the

Maslenitsa doll. In order to get ready for the big celebration the students were busy craft-ing. The children created the main symbol of spring - sun and delicious baranki necklaces.

On Friday morning everybody was delighted to watch a performance of folk Russian puppet

theatre. The puppet show was followed up with pancake breakfast and yummy toppings. The students parents and teachers spent their afternoon participating in various games and

activities outside, enjoyed singing and dancing to the talented accordion player.

Our celebration ended with the burning of the Maslenitsa Doll as we set fire to it we all said goodbye to the winter and welcomed the start of spring .

We would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to everyone who helped during the week.
