CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORY The situation Bystronic Laser has branches and service companies in more than 30 countries. They have varied and complex processes, which present a major challenge for their own em- ployees and for IT support. Bystronic wants to utilise a central SAP plat- form for all sales and service companies, to help secure competitive advantages in future. The requirements With the development of an ‘SAP template for all national subsidiaries’, Bystronic expects shorter roll-out times in its branches. The new interface is process-orientated and guided. All processes are bundled in one central entry point and made available for all business soft- ware. The solution Bystronic chose a hybrid approach by SAP Fiori as a central entry point. The company decided on SAP Screen Personas for the establishment of the ‘guided processes’ and the incorporation and optimisation of the SAP transactions. To make SAP transactions less complex, fields that are not required were hidden, some fixed values were predefined depending on the process, and the navigational widgets were consolidated. The guided processes and optimised user inter- face ensure that employees worldwide can uniformly manage processes in the SAP system. The layout of the SAP transactions was adapted to match the design by SAP Fiori, in order to ensure the seamless integration of the SAP Fiori and SAP Screen Personas environment. The new and modern SAP interface gives staff optimal support. They are no longer talking about transactions, but processes’. Bystronic is a global provider of sheet metal processing solutions, with a focus on automating the entire material and data flow of the cutting and bending pro-cess chain. Its portfolio includes laser cutting systems, press brakes, and the corresponding automation and software solutions.

Avectris is a leading provider of IT services for Swiss SMEs and offers its customers integrated IT services from a single source: development, implementation and opera-tion of business services, applications and IT infrastructures. The company employs around 270 members of staff at its head-quarters in Baden.

This means that users are already working with the interface as it will be used with SAP S4/HANA in future.

The establishment of the ‘guided processes’ and adjustments to the transactions can be implemented interactively with the key users without requiring any additional development expertise. This reduces development time and increases the solution’s user friendliness.

In the optimisations with SAP Screen Personas, no changes are made to the SAP standard; only the interface is adapted using a script. The script can be deleted at any time and the SAP standard will be preserved.The web-based interface is user friendly and has the advantage that a local installation of SAP-GUI is no longer necessary.

The futureAfter the first successful implementation and wide acceptance, the template solution is now to be rolled out to more branches. The low error rate has shown that this is the correct ap-proach for a unified, integrated and pro-cess-orientated method of operating.
