COMPREHENSION Practice 1 Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow.
Mr Lee was caught in the rush hour traffic. He had just gotten a call from
his sister that his wife was in labour and was about to give birth. He desperately
needed to be at the hospital.
Although the air-conditioning was on, Mr Lee was perspiring profusely.
"Why does this have to happen now?" yelled Mr Lee to no one in particular.
The traffic in the lane beside him seemed to be moving a little and he
quickly turned his steering wheel to change lanes. Suddenly, a motorcyclist
seemed to appear out of nowhere and he was sent flying a couple of metres to Edubest English Programme PR1B05 1

another car. Mr Lee stepped hard on the brakes and ran out to help the
unconscious man.
The slow moving traffic immediately came to a halt. All eyes were on Mr Lee. This was supposed to have been a great day for him
but it turned out to be the worst day of his life!
