Preface

The Department of Census & Statistics (DCS) publishes its bulletin of “Economic Statistics of Sri Lanka 2018” for the second time. This bulletin presents comparative data on economic indicators of the country. Since Sri Lanka is moving towards a rapid development phase, timely data on economic indicators are required for purposes including policy making and planning development programmes.

This bulletin was compiled with the guidance of Mrs I.R.Bandara, Acting Director General and Mr. P.M.P Anura Kumara, Additional Director General of the DCS.

Statistics from various sources were collected by Mr. H.T. Fonseka, Statistician and Ms. H.M.D. Sepalika, Statistician and they were assisted by Ms. Madurangi Fernando, Statistical Officer, under the supervision of Ms. U. Maheshwaran, Director of Publications Division.

This bulletin will be a useful resource for policy makers, development partners and many others interested in the economy and development process of Sri Lanka.
