relax. Massage therapy, though

often seen as a luxury, is a regu-

lated healthcare profession in On-

tario and the best way to de-stress

therapy can affect blood pressure,

tion. Conditions such as depres-

sion, anxiety and insomnia can be

treated using techniques that stim-

ulate the release of dopamine and

serotonin which counteract the

stress hormone, cortisol. This can

also have an effect on blood pres-

sure, often lowering it for a short

time after treatment.

Not only does the mind relax dur-

ing a massage but the body relaxes

as well. Muscles release tension

and connective tissues become

more pliable. Joint capsules loosen

and are more flexible, increasing

range of motion and helping to re-

store muscle balance. Blood is

drawn to the area being worked,

function. Lymphatic fluids are also

drained, helping to decrease in-

flammation and swelling. These

A New Way of Thinking; “No Fur-kid Left Behind”Summer-time, is traditionally the time of mov-ing in Canada and with that, comes a massiveincrease in the abandonment of our compan-ion animals. Conservatively, hundreds ofthousands of pets are unceremoniously castaside to shelters for various reasons acrossCanada each year, with more than half of themsubsequently put to death.

Most, never have the opportunity to catch theeye of someone new to take them home.Shock and fear of their abandonment havemany cowering at the back of the observationcages for their allotted time 'on show'. Theirvibrant and individual personalities never hav-ing the chance to show themselves.

Those are the recorded, forsaken ones, like,'Bella' the loyal, 6 year old German Shepherdabandoned because her 'pet-parents' wouldn'tagree to give her to the other partner in the di-vorce. Or 'Max', the sensitive, 4 year oldGolden Retriever, who was tossed aside be-cause a new baby arrived. Or 'Zoe', the happy,3 year old Beagle who's custodians chose tomove to an apartment that would not acceptpets.

Then there are the truly, unlucky ones like thePomeranian, 'Snowball' that never had achance on a hot July 1st, because the peoplethat owned her and the countless others likeher, just didn't care or were too embarrassedto bring them to a shelter. They just dumpthem like garbage on the side of a countryroad telling themselves the fairy-tale, 'some-body else' will find them.

In truth, less than 1% survive, fewer findhomes. Most of these former pets are savagelykilled by wildlife, or flattened by cars. Someslowly starve or freeze to death.

How as humans, did we ever get to the level ofconsciousness that enables us to treat these in-nocent, sentient beings as though their livesdid not matter? However we, as a society gotto this place, perhaps what is written belowwill help give us a new perspective, and ourpets an opportunity to keep their homes.

For thousands of years, or at least as long asany one of us has seen the movie, 'The TenCommandments,' we know when Mosesasked God/Source, aka, THE Burning Bush,by what name shall God be called? He re-ceived, 'I AM THAT I AM.'

For all millennia since, the world has had animage of this imposing Being who sits onhigh, imperially judging us to see if we aregood or bad, right or wrong, worthy or notworthy. Yet, weren't we also told that all living

beings are a part of this God/Source, that wewere made in His image and He is in each andevery one of us? So what's missing in thatmessage?

In the thought-provoking movie the 'MosesCode', we learn that perhaps the messageMoses received thousands of years ago wasmissing something in the translation. Theremay be one very simple, yet not so small de-tail potentially left out. This simple detailwhen added, profoundly changes the messageand the understanding of the way we live,breathe and have our being in this world. Thedetail? A missing 'comma.'

What if the name was, “I AM THAT, I AM.”As in, “I am that, I am.”

So now, if we repeat the phrase as we walkthrough life, as we put our gaze upon each andevery living thing, we have no option but toobserve it from that place in ourselves that isGod/Source. “I am that...I am.”

Give it a try, as you go about your day, ob-serving everything around you from this newperspective, the deep and compassionate placeinside of you. If you really want to feel it, sayit out-loud and point to each 'that' you comeacross...How you view the world and ALL be-ings who live in it, may change forever.

Specifically, expand this new awareness andunderstanding for your pets who love you un-conditionally, and all other animals subject toyour mercy.

Say it, when the urge is to turn your head awayfrom the starving, feral cat colony that lives atthe edge of your town. I am that, I am.

Say it, when you pass one of those transporttrucks filled with cows, pigs or horses on theirway to slaughter. I am that, I am.

Say it, when you look into the eyes of your petthat has implicitly trusted you from the dayyou added her to your family. I am that, I am.

Say it, as you look into the eyes of your pet,when you are deciding whether or not to aban-don it, now that you had a baby, are getting adivorce, or moving into a new apartment orhome that doesn't allow pets. I am that, I am.

This time of year when shelters and their over-worked volunteers traditionally experience an-other explosion of newly, surrenderedfur-kids, please remember, in all wisdom andcompassion, I AM THAT, I AM.
