This comes amid al- legation that the municipality has lost direction under his administration. He tendered his letter of resignation to May- or Nosisa Jojozi on Monday. The Greater Koks- tad municipality speaker Zolani Mhlongo con- firmed that Nxumalo has resigned, citing ill health. However, the executive manager of Community Development Services, Nyaniso Msiya has been appointed as the acting munici- pal manager until 13 September. The municipality has been facing accusa- tions of gross maladministrations, bankruptcy and poor financial management. Nxumalo was often accused of being weak and as a result he was allegedly used by some councillors as a tool to fulfil their personal interests. Under his lead- ership the municipality seemed to be going in a downward spiral as a number of key manag- ers have left the municipality, leaving impor- tant positions vacant. The municipality, under his leadership, re- ceived qualified audit reports while in previous years GKM had been getting unqualified audit reports. This is despite the requirement that all municipalities must a get clean audit in 2014, but this seems like mission impossible for this municipality. According to reliable sources, Makhoba has been awarding his company municipal ten- ders. After reports of Makhoba’s alleged cor- ruption in local newspapers, Mhlongo has con- firmed that he is being investigated by the pro- vincial Treasury. Mhlongo said they welcomed Nxumalo’s resignation and commended his contribution to the municipality. “Nxumalo was a well-focused gentleman. He was currently championing a turnaround strategy for the municipality,” he said. The Greater Kokstad Municipality speakerZolani Mhlongo described him as a “focusedgentleman”.

He also said that he resigned while leadinga turnaround strategy for the troubledmunici-pality, althoughhemayhavecontributed to thewoes of the municipality.

Although there is not much evidence of hisgoodwork, his colleagues have praised him. Itis clear that he still had the confidence of somein themunicipality. The reason forhis resigna-tion is ill health.

We wish him good health and hope that heprospers in his future endeavours.

WARM greetings toUMZ people

ItwasaverybusyweekfortheUmzimkhuluMu-nicipality as itwas engaged insod-turning and handoverceremonies.

This week, we went to theRietvlei community to handovera sports fieldand theMa-samini access road. The com-munity was very enthusiasticand relished the idea of serv-ice delivery.

It is evident that the peopleof Umzimkhulu are enjoyingthe fruits of freedom. Thesports field will have a hugeimpact in the ward becauseever since the area came intoexistence, it has been alwaystheir wish to have a sports fa-cility. They commended themunicipality for being pas-sionate about sport and forshowing commitment inchanging the lives of the peo-ple.

They did not even want tocomment about quality of thefacility because it is writtenfrom a distance that the mu-nicipality has done justice to

the project. The facility is notdifferent from the facility wefind inbigmunicipalities. Theathletes have to restore thevalue of the facility for futuregenerations. Most important-ly, therearepeoplewhodonotvalue these types of facilities, instead they resort to vandal-ismandtheftoftheassets.Thecommunityshouldtakefullre-sponsibility for the facilityandbe the security of it becausethey live there.

Wefurtherdealtwiththeis-sues of planning, as we knowthatRietvlei isoneofournodalareas. We are very gratefulthat the community has beenpositive about the project andshownahigh level of appreci-ation for it.

The precinct plan is goingto advocate that we shouldplan properly so that we canprovidelandforotherservicesthat can be rendered to thecommunity. It talksof formali-sation of the area in terms ofresidential and business landparcels. In the consolidationof the plan, title deeds willhave to be produced for each

property. Residents will beempowered to have owner-shipof theirproperties so thatwhen they decide to sell theproperty the seller knows thevalue of the house.

Wealsowent to theClydes-dale community to consultwith thepeopleon theproject. We appreciate the robust en-gagements that have tran-spired and it showed that ourpeople are proud of our de-mocracy.

We reiterate and confirmour stance that other thanservice delivery we cannotforsake our people. We shalldo everything in our power torestore good relations withthecommunitiesweserve.Wewill further engagewith themso that we clear some amuse-ments and resentments thatour people might have suf-fered.

Let us look ahead for otherdeliberationsonservicedeliv-ery-relatedmatters, soweap-pealtoallstakeholderstohaveagility and patience whendealing with sensitive issues.

Thank you.
