DEDICATION:
Three hundred million years ago, before all the continents were rifted apart, there was a super-continent called Pangaea.
Thus, all of the water surrounding this super-continent -which was the union of all the continents of today’s world-
formed an enormous world ocean that streched from pole to pole. A super-ocean which had a name meaning “all oceans” in the ancient Greek language,
and once was the union of all today’s oceans: “Panthalassa”…
This piece, which was commissioned by the Istanbul Technical University,
Turkish Music State Conservatory in Istanbul, Turkey, is dedicated to the people in Turkish nation who strives for the survival of the Turkish culture;
and also dedicated to the said conservatory which, by its nature, undertook the mission of honoring all the unfortunately separated and distanced cultures
living in this land for a thousand years by filtering and blending their different unique sounds and musics
(including the music heritage of the Ottoman empire), like the super-ocean Panthalassa which blended all the oceans of the world in its existence;
while fulfilling the dream and vision of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,
which was “universalizing Turkish music without westernizing”.
