School to Career Department
INTERNSHIPS and JUNIOR INTERVIEWS The School to Career Department at Dulaney is going strong! This year we have 51
Senior Interns in our GT Elective Internship course.
In the internship program, seniors choose a career to study, attend school seminars and
volunteer at a professional work site. They work side by side with a mentor and create a
portfolio of this valuable yearlong experience. The following sites are mentoring our in-
terns in a career-specific area:
Health Care / Medicine Business Johns Hopkins Simulation Center Kelly & Associates Sinai Hospital Mary Kraft Staffing and HR Solutions University of MD Shock Trauma Muscular Dystrophy Association of Greater MD Cloud 9 Acupuncture Northwestern Mutual Dr. Regina George Point Breeze Credit Union Drs. Gouel & Blotny Tessemae’s Physical Therapy Veterinary Evolution Sports Animal Medical Clinic LifeBridge Health Hunt Valley Hunt Valley Animal Hospital MedStar Franklin Square and Timonium Timonium Veterinary Hospital Megan Rich PT Sports Therapy of Towson Engineering and Contracting Towson Sports Medicine WBCM Engineering VA Medical Center Brawner Builders Interior Design Event Planning Alexander Blank Fabric and Design Zeffert & Gold Event Planning Whitworth Organized Design Sentimental Foods Education Government and Law Lutherville Lab Elementary Bowie and Jensen, LLC Mays Chapel Elementary Congressman Ruppersberger’s Office Padonia International Elementary Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office Anita’s Dance Studio Maryland State Police Journalism Girls’ Life Magazine If you have a junior who is interested in participating in an internship next year, please
remind them to pick up an application when they register for classes. Applications are due this winter, and we will begin meeting next spring for future planning.
JUNIOR INTERVIEWS – MARCH 26 AND 27, 2019
The School to Career and English Departments are hosting Junior
Interview this spring. This is an annual event in which every stu-
dent in the junior class participates in a mock interview!
At Dulaney we strive to make the interview experience as authentic
as possible by inviting members of the local business community to
conduct the interviews with our students. We feel that this experi-
ence is worthwhile for all students – whether they are planning to
look for a summer job or participate in the college interview pro-
cess.
We strongly encourage parents, alumni and community members to
consider volunteering for this event. Interviews will be on March
26 and March 27, from 8am – 11:00am.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please email Kate Carter,
School to Career coordinator, at: [email protected].
School Counseling
Counselors visited 10th grade classrooms to do a Career Lesson in
Naviance, review 6-year plans, and a lesson on mental health aware-
ness. You can access the 6-year plan in your student’s Naviance ac-
count.
We are in the middle of school-wide presentations on the registra-
tion process. We are reviewing graduation requirements and options
for students during the 2019-2020 school year. Look for materials to
come home this week. We will begin our individual registration
meetings with students in the beginning of January.
Seniors: Please update your admission decisions in your Naviance
account.
To apply for federal student aid, such as federal grants, work-study,
and loans, you need to complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA®) form on or before March 1, 2018. Completing
and submitting the FAFSA form is free and easier than ever. Many
states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eli-
gibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid provid-
ers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you quali-
fy for their aid.
Juniors: Save the date for College Information Night on March 14th.
Recycle Right!!!
Did you know that burned out holiday light strings can be recycled? Bring them to the main lobby and place them in the box labeled “Recycle Lights Here” The box will be there until March 31
st. The revenue generated will be used for the
Environmental Issues Club to support the Green Schools effort. Thanks! Questions? Contact John Enders [email protected]
Do you know someone who is moving? Do you
need a product that will perform the same as
bubble wrap? The Environmental issues club has
created “moving boxes” that can be used to pack
fragile items. These repurposed paper boxes
from the copy rooms are filled with padding that
measure 12in. by 6in. and were used to ship and
protect student computers. This repurposing of
the padding and boxes supports the Green
Schools goal of waste reduction.
Email [email protected] to access free moving
boxes.
2019 GRAD GALA
Dear Class of 2019 Parents
Where have the days gone? Didn't it seem just like yesterday, we were anxiously dropping off
our seniors to preschool or kindergarten. The Class of 2019 seemed so far off in the distant
future. Now, here we are mentoring our seniors as they prepare for the next stage of life.
These next several months will provide countless memories that our seniors will cherish for a
lifetime. A lifetime that we don't want to see cut short for any of our DHS seniors. Statistics
show a third of all teen traffic fatalities occur between April and June, the peak of prom sea-
son.
A group of parents have come together to plan, fundraise and coordinate the Class of 2019
Grad Gala to prevent the Dulaney community from being a part of any staggering statistics.
The Grad Gala is an alcohol and drug-free event that immediately follows the senior prom on
Saturday, May 18 and provides a safe and welcoming environment for our children and each
of their guests to continue celebrating with music, dancing, games, food and fun with a
chance to win some valuable prizes. This year's event takes place at the Timonium Fairgrounds
Exhibition Hall beginning at 11:30 p.m. on May 18 and continuing to 2:30 a.m. the morning of
May 19. The celebration needs your assistance to be a success. Here are a few ways you can
help today:
1. Make a tax-deductible donation. This event is completely funded through the generosity of our community. 2. Volunteer to plan, fundraise or help out the night of the event. Contact Kristi Kresslein and Beverly Weller at [email protected] to learn more. 3. Attend one of our upcoming restaurant fundraising nights. Please see the included flyer. 4. Help us sell our March Madness $10 raffle tickets with a different winner each day during the month of March. Contact Melissa Whatley at [email protected] 5. Join the Class of 2019 Parents Facebook page to keep up with the latest news and infor-mation as we prepare our seniors for graduation.
Sincerely,
Linda Frederick and Samantha Boellner

CLASS OF 2019 DULANEY HIGH SCHOOL
GRAD GALA Dear Dulaney Parents, Guardians & Friends of Dulaney,
On Saturday, May 18, 2019 the class of 2019 will hold it's senior prom, to be followed by the after
prom event, known as the Grad Gala. The Grad Gala is an off-campus, alcohol & drug free event. It
is FREE to all seniors and guests, even if they do not attend the senior prom. It draws more than 500
attendees each year and is a fun and safe event for after prom.
In order to make Grad Gala 2019 an unforgettable experience, we need your help! The cost of the
event is usually over $25,000. The funds for this event are raised through donations from our busi-
ness community. The largest portion of the money, however, comes from donations made by fami-
lies and friends of Dulaney. This includes families of all grades. Please consider making a $50 dona-
tion or any amount you feel comfortable with, to support this event. Your generosity is greatly ap-
preciated and the key to making our 2019 Grad Gala a fun and safe alternative for our seniors.
Sincerely,
Beverly Weller and Kristi Kresslein

Current PTSA Volunteer Opportunities
For more information about any of these, contact PTSA Volunteer Coordinator Dawn
Stellman or PTSA President Sue Battle-McDonald.
1. Help us form a new "Devices in Schools" committee to follow issues associated with the
assigned BCPS devices, and also to consider related issues such as health implications, re-
search relating to device usage for education, and options for limiting cellphone usage dur-
ing the school day.
2. These committees have chairs who can use help:
Beautification - gardening and sprucing up the school grounds
Reflections - short-term need for judges, I think in Jan or Feb
Hospitality - bring food and other items for, and/or helping at, events at school - mostly for
teacher/staff events - great fun to stay and see how happy the free food makes them :)
Advocacy - many opportunities depending on your areas of interest
Prevention Partners - grant-funded substance abuse prevention activities
3. Serve as Dulaney's liaison to the Maryland PTA and the Baltimore County PTA Council.
4. A number of national organizations offer resources and programs that we would love to
bring to Dulaney; we just need volunteers to take the lead. Three examples are below; you
may find others that interest you:
Help prevent Nature Deficit Disorder! Lead Dulaney in developing green schoolyard spaces.

Sandy Hook Promise - to prevent gun violence - Dulaney needs a "Promise Leader"
https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/promise_leaders
We need a coordinator for Youth Mental Health Matters Week in the spring. This is a great
Maryland program, and school coordinators, called "Champions", are needed.
