Wind farm agreement up for feedbackA draft Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) regarding the establishment of a wind farm 4.3 kilometres northwest of Cassilis, is on public exhibition for comment until 10 August 2018.The NSW Minister for Planning approved the Development Application from Epuron Pty Ltd earlier this year.

The VPA, which has been prepared by Upper Hunter Shire Council jointly with Warrumbungle Shire Council, includes the establishment of a Community Enhancement Fund of at least $100,000 a year and a Road Maintenance Fund.

Community groups, the two councils and not-for-profi t organisations would be able to apply for funding for local projects benefi ting communities within a 20 kilometre radius of the wind farm.

When the wind farm is at full capacity there will be an estimated $55,000 per annum contribution to Upper Hunter Shire Council for the maintenance of roads impacted by the wind farm within the Shire, and an administration allowance. These payments will increase with CPI each year for 30 years.

It is estimated the wind farm, which would be one of the biggest in the country, would generate enough power for 500,000 homes.

The construction of the project is expected to create up to 800 jobs with up to 47 people employed locally during the operation of the wind farm and will take three years to build.

The project would impact 41 associated landowners, all of which have provided landowner’s consent and have entered into commercial agreements with Epuron to facilitate the development of the project, including accepting the impacts of the project. Of the 41 landowners, 27 landowners would host turbines.

To fi nd out more about the project read the draft VPA at Council offi ces or on Council’s website http://upperhunter.nsw.gov.au/your-council/media/public-notices/draft-planning-agreement-liverpool-range-wind-farm.aspx

$611,000 project serves up a refreshment for saleyards kioskThe transformation of the Singleton Regional Livestock Market will continue after Singleton Council received $305,955 under the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund to upgrade the kiosk building. The dollar-for-dollar funding will see the $611,000 project go ahead to provide disabled facilities and access, up-to-date food preparation and dining facilities, and improved structural capacity including new walls, roof and fl ooring. The kiosk upgrade follows the offi cial opening of the $7.73million upgrade in February this year, funded by $6million from the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program and $1.73million from Council, with works including a roof over the Northern Yards selling area, almost one kilometre of raised aerial walkways and installation of rainwater harvest tanks.

All about the artsBritish artist Racheal Whiteread will share her considerable knowledge with the Scone chapter of the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society on Tuesday August 7.

Whiteread is one of the most respected and infl uential British artists working today. Her preoccupation with the hidden spaces in between things has resulted in an extraordinary range of objects which form a series of eloquent tributes to the silent and overlooked.

This lecture gives an account of her career to date, showing examples of how show has used ordinary domestic objects to create enigmatic and evocative works of art.

Racheal will be accompanied by Linda Smith who is an experienced guide and lecturer at Tate Britain and the Dulwich Picture Gallery. She lectures to secondary students and independent arts Societies.

The lecture will take place at Scone Arts and Crafts Centre from 5.30pm. For further information contact Hilary 6545 1536.

Approval in principle paves the closure of Wallaby Scrub RoadSingleton Council will act to formalise the closure of Wallaby Scrub Road after receiving approval in principle from the Department of Industry. The approval relates to the closure of 5.99km of Wallaby Scrub Road from the intersection of Putty Road, but excludes a portion of Crown road adjoining the road corridor.

The closure is also conditional that the land is sold to adjoining landholders Warkworth Mining Limited and Miller Pohang Coal Company Pty Limited. General Manager Jason Linnane said Council was notifying objectors about the decision.

Mayoral Minute calls for more information about dwelling entitlementsMayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore has used a Mayoral Minute to call for a report on the number of properties affected by the loss of a dwelling entitlement under the Singleton Local Environmental Plan 2013 (LEP). The Mayoral Minute at the recent ordinary Council meeting also asked that the report clarify the loss of dwelling entitlement when an existing house was demolished, and discuss strategic planning implications and process - should Council pursue the State Government to reintroduce dwelling entitlement provisions. The issue was raised recently when the owner of a small residential lot lodged a development application for a dwelling.

Cr Moore has also raised the issue directly with Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen about whether the State Government, through the NSW Department of Planning, would support an amendment to the LEP to reintroduce dwelling entitlement provisions.

Your chance to be involved a movie shootGet ready to roll out the red carpet, part of the sequel to the Australian Sci-Fi Action fi lm, “Occupation” will be shot in the Hunter. A large number of cast and crew will be coming to Newcastle and surrounds. The production is looking for any local business that may want to be involved in the shoot; from caterers to accommodation providers to post-apocalyptic style vehicles. They would love to get as many local businesses involved as possible.

LEGENDARY: The Waifs will headline Dashville Skyline festival in September. Image by Jarrad Seng.

One of Australia’s favourite musical acts, The Waifs will make their way to Belford, Hunter Valley to perform at the Dashville Skyline festival.Coming off the back of their 25th anniversary celebrations last year, the band which brought us the singles ‘Lighthouse’ and ‘London Still’, promise to give a magical performance at the festival. In 2017 the band released their eighth studio record Ironbark, completed a SOLD OUT national tour, gained their fi rst #1 album debut on the ARIA Charts and reminded fans that like a bottle of fi ne wine, they only get better with time. The original road warriors, The Waifs have built a career out of continually circling Australia and the globe. From bustling cities to the farthest regional and coastal towns, they have spent the past 25 years, reuniting with old friends, and gathering new fans, thanks to their enchanting live shows and affable natures.

This year’s Dashville Skyline festival – 28, 29 and 30 September over the Labour Day long weekend - is one not to be missed. For further enquiries and ticket sales visit www.dashvilleskyline.com.au
