Academic Council Meeting
19th Academic Council Meeting was conducted on 12.06.2017 at
International Guest House, Venkataramannagudem under the
chairmanship of Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor
(FAC), DrYSRHU & Commissioner of Horticulture & Ex-Officio
Secretary to Government, Agriculture and Co-operation (Hort &
Seri) Department. Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar & Member
Secretary, Expert members viz., Dr.P.Venkata Rao, former
Prof(Hort.), ANGRAU, Dr.P.Kalidas, Principal Scientist, IIOPR, Pedavegi and other members of
Academic Council gave their valuable inputs .
Board of Faculty Meetings
12th Board of Faculty of UG Studies meeting was conducted on
03.06.2017 at International Guest House, Vrgudem under the
chairmanship of Dr.M.Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of
Horticulture. Expert members viz., Dr.P.Narayana Swamy,
Registrar, UAHS, Shivamogga, Dr.K.M.Indiresh, Dean, College of
Horticulture, UHS, Yelwala, Mysore and other members of UG
Faculty Board gave their valuable inputs in the meeting.

Training Programmes
Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary IFS, Ex-officio Secretary to the
Government of Andhra Pradesh, Agriculture and
Cooperation (Horticulture and Sericulture) Department &
Vice-Chancellor, Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University
addressed the gathering as chief guest for the training
programme on ‘Organic farming in horticultural crops’
at Makkinavaarigudem, West Godavari district organized
by Department of Horticulture on 07.06.2017. Sri.
G.ShaliRaju Scientist (Ento.) Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Venkataramannagudem delivered a lecture on
‘Importance of biocontrol agents in pest and disease management of various field and
horticultural crops’. Later the vice-chancellor visited the custom hiring center (CHC) in the village
and interacted with the farmers.
12th Board of Faculty of PG Studies meeting was conducted on
03.06.2017 at 02.00 PM at International Guest House,
Venkataramannagudem under the chairmanship of
Dr.D.Srihari, Dean of PG Studies. Expert members viz.,
Dr.K.Umesha, Dean, College of Horticulture, UHS Campus,
Bengaluru and other members of PG Faculty board gave their
valuable inputs in the meeting.
Impact Evaluation Study
Dr L. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri. T. Gouri Sankar,
Senior Research Fellow, CRS, Tirupati conducted impact evaluation
study on “Rejuvenation of mango” as per the guidelines of MIDH at
Yerpedu, Yerravaripalem, Puthalapattu, Yadamari, Chandragiri
mandals of Chittoor district on 09.06.2017, 10.06.2017 and
12.06.2017.
Evaluation of acid lime clones
As a part of AICRP experiment titled “Evaluation of promising clones of acid lime”
(TAL 94/14, TAL 94/13, Phule Sharbati, Akola Lime, NRCC-2, NRCC-3, NRCC-4,
Pramalini and Balaji), it was observed that Pramalini and Jaidevi(PKM-1) had
severe infestation of snow scales as compared to other clonal selections.

Scientists of AICRP on Palms, Horticultural Research Station,
Pandirimamidi conducted training programmes on “Value addition
in palmyrah” on 01.06.2017 at Rajavolu, East Godavari district, on
02.06.2017 and 03.06.17 at Narsipatnam, Visakhapatnam district.
Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Dr.B.Prasanna
Kumar, Associate Dean, CoH, Parvathipuram attended a
training programme on “Cashew Cultivation with new
management practices” at Levidi village of Kurupam mandal
on 07.06.2017 conducted by College of Horticulture,
Parvathipuram under Tribal Sub-Plan Project. About thirty
tribal farmers attended the trining progrmme.
Forty farmers from East Godavari district visited KVK,
Venkataramannagudem on 15.06.2017. Dr. E. Karunasree,
Sr. Scientist & Head, explained about Kitchen gardening, Azolla
and Vermi-compost production. Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist
(Vet. Science) explained about scientific management practices
in goat farming, fodder production and poultry rearing.
Similarly Sri. G. Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) explained about Bee
keeping and pests and disease management aspects in field and horticultural crops.
KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted three days training
programme on “Production and use of organic manures
and biofertilizers” sponsored by RKVY from 13.06.2017 to
15.06.2017. Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK,
Pandirimamidi addressed the farmers in the valedictory.
Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) conducted technical
sessions on Importance & Practical applications of the
Organic manures and Biofertilizers in Agriculture/Horticulture and an exposure visits to Azolla
production unit, Nadep composting pits and Vermicomposting unit at Gokavaram was arranged
followed by an interaction with one progressive farmer in organic farming.
Dr K.Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. A.Snehalatha Rani, Scientist
(Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur participated in the training programme on
“Scientific cultivation in banana” organised by
RHTI ,Gopannapalem and Department of Horticulture, East
Godavari District at market yard, Ravulapalem on 13.6.2017 and
gave lectures through power point presentation on banana
production and protection technologies.

Diagnostic Visits
On 14.06.2017, Sri K.C. Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) and P. Raja
Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), from KVK, Pandirimamidi visited brinjal
nurseries (Var. Local green) at Irlapalli and Tamarapalli villages of
Rampachodavaram mandal. Suggested the farmers to apply copper
oxychloride @ 3 g/l against damping off before transplanting.
Dr.A.SnehalathaRani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur along with Dr.
N.B.V. Chalapathi Rao, Sr. Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipet, Dr.
R.Rajya Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, MRS, Nuzuvid conducted
a diagnostic survey in Vizianagaram and Bobbili mandals of
Vizianagram district for “Post harvest losses in mango”.
Anthracnose, stem end rot by Lasiodiploidia theobromae along with
hopper and thrips damage were found to be the major problems.
Dr.K.Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. A.Snehalatha Rani, Scientist
(Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur conducted diagnostic survey for diseases of
elephant foot yam and banana in Vemuluru, Vadapalli, villages of
West Godavari dist and Rajavaram, Ravulapadu villages of East
Godavari district and identified incidence of viral diseases in
elephant foot yam.
Field days
Dr.M.Kavitha, Scientist (Pl. Pathology) & Head i/c, KVK, Periyavaram
organized a Field day on 09.06.2017 at Chaganam village of
Saidapuram Mandal, Nellore District on “Production and
protection technologies in acid lime”. Dr.B.G.Rajulu, Principal
Scientist (Pl.Pathology) & Head, CRS, Petlur and Dr. D. Srinivas
Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), Citrus Research Station, Tiruapti have
attended and interacted with the farmers.
Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Senior Scientist & Head and Dr. P. Deepthi, Scientist
(Plant Pathology), Horticultural Research Station, Anantapuramu
visited date palm orchard at Benekal on 09.06.2017 and interacted
with the farmers on yield, quality and marketing aspects.
Eruvaka Purnima
Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Senior Scientist & Head and Dr. P. Deepthi, Scientist
(Pl. Path), HRS, Anantapuramu attended “Eruvaka Purnima” programme
inaugurated by Sri.N.Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of A.P and
arranged an exhibition stall at Rayadurgam on 09.06.2017.

On 09.06.2017, Miss.S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), Miss. N.Srividya Rani,
Scientist (Extn.) and Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Vet. Science) attended
Eruvaka Purnima programme organized by Department of
Agriculture, Rampachodavaram. Sri.A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS, Project
Officer, ITDA, Rampachodavaram, Smt.Vantala Rajeswari, MLA,
Rampachodavaram inaugurated ‘Eruvaka Purnima’ programme by
ploughing the land and interacted with the tribal farmers.
Tribal Sub-Plan
On 06.06.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.), KVK,
Venkataramannagudem distributed 100 bee boxes (Apis cerana indica)
and honey extractors to the trainees in Kamaiahkunta, Pandugudem,
Lankapalli, Bandarlagudem, Aliveru, Palakunta, Yeeraigudem, China
Jeedipudi, Katkuru and Koida villages under ICAR-TSP project .
Dr. A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Sciences), KVK,
Venkataramannagudem distributed fish feed to the tribal farmers on
07.06.2017 under ICAR-TSP project on “Development of integrated fish
culture cum horticulture/poultry for the livelihood of fisher folks” to the
selected farmers.
Aseel poultry birds and water tanks were distributed by KVK,
Venkataramannagudem on 08.06.2017 to the tribal farmers under ICAR
TSP project on “Development of integrated fish culture cum horticulture/
poultry for the livelihood of fisher folks”.
General
Workshops, Meetings and Trainings
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension along with
Dr. E. Karunasree, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK,
V.R.Gudem and Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head,
KVK, Pandirimamidi participated in National
Workshop on “Empowering Farmers in Tribal
Areas” organized by Agricultural Extension
Division of ICAR, New Delhi during 7th-8th June,
2017 at NAS Complex , New Delhi and arranged an exhibition to show case the achievements of
Dr.YSRHU. The exhibition was visited by Sri.Radha Mohan Singhji, Minister for Agriculture and
Farmer’s Welfare, Govt. of India and Sri. Sudarshan Bhagatji, Minister of State for Agriculture and
Farmer’s Welfare, Govt. of India. Dr. E.Karunasree has given a presentation on “Skill and
Entrepreneurship Development of Tribal Farmers in East and West Godavari District of AP” under
tribal sub-plan during the workshop.
Er.P C Vengaiah, Scientist(Food Science & Technology), HRS, Pandirimamidi participated in a
meeting organized by Sri.T.Padma Rao, Honorable Minister for Prohibition & Excise, Telengana at
Hyderabad on 08.06.2017 as expert member for Value addition in Palmyrah.

Dr. M. Rajasekhar, Professor (Hort.), College of Horticulture,
Venkataramannagudem attended an awareness meeting on
export of farm produce conducted by the Export Credit Guarantee
Corporation Ltd., Government of India on 06.06.2017 at
Tadepalligudem and delivered a talk on ‘Requirements for
export of horticultural produce’. Smt.S. Malathi Rani, Director,
ECGC Ltd, Sri. K. Bhaskar, District Collector, West Godavari,
Sri P. Manikyala Rao, Minister for endowments, Sri K. Sambasiva Rao, Ex-Minister, GOI, AP, Sri VVSN
Murthy, Retd. Customs officer, Officials of ECGC Ltd, Sri V.Koteswara Rao, Global EXIM Institute,
local farmers, entrepreneurs and industrialists attended the programme.
Dr. G. Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta
participated in the inaugural function of Tractor mounted coconut
harvester by Sri. N. China Rajappa, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister,
Govt. of A.P. at Ambajipeta organized by the Krishivala Coconut
Producers Organization, Ambajipeta along with Department of
Horticulture on 03.06.2017.
Dr. K.Swarajya Lakshmi, Assoc. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupet
attended National Seminar on “Nutrients and pollutants in soil-plant-
animal-human continuum for sustaining soil, food and nutritional secu-
rity - way forward” at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV),
Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal on 9th and 10th June 2017 and presented a
poster on “Leaf nutrient status of rose (cv. Sophia Loren) as influenced
by foliar application of different micronutrients sprayed one month after
pruning”.
On 04.06.2017, Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head,
Sri. K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri. P. Raja Sekhar,
Scientist (SS&AC) from KVK, Pandirimamidi attended Nava Nirmana
Deeksha programme organized by ITDA, Rampachodavaram.
Sri.A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS, PO, ITDA, Rampachodavaram administered
oath with the participants.
Monitoring Visits
Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.D.Srihari, Dean of PG Stud-
ies, Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of
Examinations visited the College of Horticulture, Parvathipuram and
inspected the Entomology, Horticulture and Computer Labs along with
Library and Boys Hostel on 07.06.2017.
Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.D.Srihari, Dean of PG Studies,
Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of Examinations
inspected NRR Horticultural Polytechnic, Neliparthi, Saluru Mandal,
Vizianagaram distirct on 06.06.2017 to examine the availability of infrastructure
and laboratories for enhancing the number of seats.

A committee constituting of Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture,
Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of
Examinations inspected the facilities at Chinalataripi village, Prakasam
district for running newly sanctioned College of Horticulture (Govt) on
09.06.2017.
Guest Lectures
A guest lecture was delivered by the adjunct faculty Dr. T.V.K.Singh,
Professor (Retd), Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture,
PJTSAU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad on 06.06.2017 on ‘IPM, IRM,
Integrated pest management, Invasive alien pests, pests of oilseeds,
pests of paddy and their management in India and techniques for
controlling the menace of wild boars.’
Farmers Visit
Farmers from Tenali, Kolluru of Guntur district visited KVK,
Venkataramannagudem and Hi-tech nursery at Centre of Excellence for
Protected Cultivation (CEPC) on 15.06.2017. Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah,
Scientist (Hort), explained about the activities of KVK and functioning of
Automated plug type nursery to the farmers.
NSS Activities
The World Environment Day was celebrated on 05.06.2017 at
CoH, Anantharajupet. The NSS program officers explained the
students about the importance of protecting the environment.
Students were motivated to make efforts in creating awareness
among the public on importance of protecting the environment.
Radio Talks
Dr. G. Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta participated in a radio programme
on “Kobbarilo nilakadaga digubadulu mariyu adanapu aadayam koraku antarapantala saagu -
Yajamanyam” at All India Radio, Visakhapatnam on 01.06.2017.
Dr. R.V. Sujatha, Assistant Professor (Ag. Economics), CoH, Venkataramannagudem participated in a
radio programme on “Perati thotala pempakam- sampurna aarogyaniki margam” at All India Radio,
Vijayawada on 06.06.2017.
