Abdul Kalam floral tributes were paid to the great leader. Dr. D. Sri- hari, Dean of Student Affairs addressed the students at COH, V.R.Gudem on 15.10.2016 and explained about his contribution to the nation. Dr. A. Sujatha, Associate Dean also emphasised on the role of youth in development of nation. Staff and stu- dents of the college participated in the programme.

Gandhi Jayanthi

147th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated

at Administrative Office, all the constituent colleges, re-

search stations and krishi vigyan kendras of Dr. YSRHU on

02nd October, 2016. Dr. B.Srinivasulu, Registrar along with

university officers paid tributes to Bapuji at Administrative

Office.

Abdul Kalam Jayanthi

On the occasion of 86th birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul

Kalam floral tributes were paid to the great leader. Dr. D. Sri-

hari, Dean of Student Affairs addressed the students at COH,

V.R.Gudem on 15.10.2016 and explained about his contribution

to the nation. Dr. A. Sujatha, Associate Dean also emphasised

on the role of youth in development of nation. Staff and stu-

dents of the college participated in the programme.

Interaction meeting

Dr. B.M.C. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor and Dr. M.L.N. Reddy, Dean of

Horticulture visited College of Horticulture, Parvathipuram on

03.10.2016 and interacted with students and parents.

World students day

Student of COH, V.R.Gudem participated in the literary com-

petions held on the occasion of Birth Anniversary of

Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam which is observed as “World student

day” on 15.10.2016 at Tadepalligudem and bagged three prizes

viz., Ms. Navya Harika (B.Sc I Year)- 1st Prize in english elocu-

tion, Mr. Leela Praveen (M.Sc)- 2nd prize in painting and

Mr. Venkata Subba Rao (B.Sc III Year)- 1st Prize in telugu essay

writing. Prizes were distributed by Sri. P.Manikyala Rao garu, Hon’ble Minister for Endowments,

Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.

Rural Awareness & Work Experience Programme – 2016

COH, Venkataramannagudem

A total of 86 students were allotted to seven Research Stations/KVKs of Dr. YSRHU viz., HRS, Amba-

jipeta (17 students), HRS, Kovvur (17 students), KVK, Venkataramannagudem (17 students), Lam

farm, Guntur (16 students), KVK, Pandirimamidi (7 students), CRS, Bapatla (6 students) and HRS,

Darsi (6 students). The RAWEP orientation programme was conducted on 03.10.2016 and the stu-

dents were placed at various villages connected to the concerned research stations.

COH, Anantharajupet

Students of final year B. Sc (Hons.) Horticulture, COH, Anantharajupet were allotted to HRS, Anan-

tharajupeta, CRS, Tirupati, HRS, Mahanandi under Rural Awareness and Work Experience Pro-

gramme as a part of Student READY programme. They were placed at various villages connected to

the concerned research stations.

ELP Training Programme

Dr. K. Swarajyalaskhmi, Assoc. Prof (Hort.) and Dr. V. Sudha-

vani, Asst. Prof (Hort.), ELP coordinators from Dr. YSRHU

attended a Brain storming session on Student Ready pro-

gramme on 5th and 6th Oct, 2016 at A.P.Shinde Symposium Hall,

NASC Complex, New Delhi and presented a power point on ELP

modules being implemented in the constituent colleges of Dr.

YSRHU. The meeting was organized by Dr.N.S.Rathore, DDG

(Agricultural Education) ICAR and Dr. S.L. Mehta, Ex. DDG (Agricultural Education). A manual on

student READY programme was released on the occasion.

Extension

Training programmes

A training porgramme on "Sustainable Agriculture Practices" to the extension functionaries from NGOs working in 9 districts viz., East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam, Nellore, Anan-thapuramu, Kadapa, Warangal and Khammam was conducted by Dr. E.Karunasree, Senior Scientist & Head and technical team of KVK, Venkatarmannagudem from 13th to 14th October, 2016. Dr. B.M.C. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor participated as a chief guest and explained about the importance of diversity and sustainability through adoption of Integrated Farming Systems in agriculture during the inaugural session. In this programme. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension explained about various components and models of integrated farming systems.

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), College of Horticulture, Anan-

tharajupeta participated in a training programme to farmers on

“Pasupu thotala saagulo yajamanya paddatulu mariyu sasya rakshana”

followed by a field visit on 05.10.2016 at Regional Horticultural Train-

ing Institute, Kadapa organized by Department of Horticulture.

Sri. G. Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) participated in the training programme on pulses conducted by

Department of Agriculture at Veerampalem as a resource person on 05.10.2016. In this pro-

gramme explained about package of practices and plant protection aspects in blackgram and

greengram and also visited blackgram fields. YVMV disease incidence was noticed and suggested

to spray imidacloprid @ 0.3m/l or acetamiprid @ 0.3 g/l to control whitefly the vector.

International Rural Women Day and World Food Day

International Rural Women Day and World Food Day were cele-

brated by KVK, V.R.Gudem at Marrigudem, T.Narasapuram mandal

on 15.10.2016 in collaboration with PARD-NGO. Explained about

role of women in family up keeping and nutritional importance of

various indigenous foods. Distributed Aseel poultry birds, Kitchen

garden kits to about 50 families in the village. Visited the Tribal

Welfare residential school in Marrigudem village and explained about the management of nutri-

tional garden in the school to increase the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables, and distrib-

uted seedlings of tomato, chilli, papaya and curry leaf.

Diagnostic visits

Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi visited oil palm orchard at B.V.Kota

village of Rampachodavaram mandal on 01.10.2016 and observed algal

leaf spot. Suggested application of mancozeb @ 2.5g/l of water.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar,

Scientist (Ento.) and Smt. B. Neeraja, Scientist (Plant Path.) carried out

field diagnostic visit in Samanthakurru village of East Godavari district

and noticed the incidence of black headed caterpillar on coconut and

released parasitoids (Bracon hebater and Goniogus nephantidis)

through coconut producer societies on 03.10.2016 and created aware-

ness among farmers.

Smt. B. Neeraja, Scientist (Plant Path.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out field

diagnostic visit in P. Gannavaram village and imposed treatments for

Ganoderma diseased palms on 06.10.2016.

Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi made Diagnostic visit on 06.10.2016 to paddy fields at Pedagarrangi village of Rajavom-mangi mandal, E.Godavari dist and observed leaf folder in paddy and suggested spraying of chlorpyriphos @ 2 ml./l.

Sri. G. Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem on

03rd October, 2016 visited groundnut and blackgram fields affected

with heavy rainfall during the last week of September, 2016 and sug-

gested spraying of macozeb @ 3 g/l or tebuconazole @ 1 ml/lit. for

control of fungal diseases.

Grama sabha

Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem participated in special

Gramasabha at Venkataramannagudem of Tadepalligudem mandal

and Kamaiahkunta village of Buttaiahgudem mandal conducted on

the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on 02.10.2016 for the preparation of

village development plan.

FLDs

Dr. E. Karunasree, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Venkatarmannagudem

visited groundnut FLD fields at Gantavarigudem and Marampalli

villages and distributed post emergence herbicide (imazethapyr) as

critical input to the farmers on 07.10.2016.

Sri. G. Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) and Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agrl. Ex-

tenion), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited blackgram fields under

NFSM cluster frontline demonstration programme and distributed

blackgram seed var. TBG-104, PSB, Rhizobium and Pendimethalin to the

farmers at Veerampalem village on 03.10.2016.

Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited red gram FLD fields

under NFSM programme in Marrigudem village and observed that the

crop is in good vegetative condition followed by distribution of fer-

tilizer (19 : 19 : 19) and neem and pongamia soap as prophylactic

spray before flowering.

On 03.10.2016 Sri. P.Rajashekar, Scientist (Soil Science & Agrl. Chem.),

KVK, Pandirimamidi visited blackgram demonstration field, variety

Mash-338 at Puttagondilanka village of Maredumilli mandal. Observed

leaf roller infestation and suggested to spray chlorpyriphos @ 2.5 ml/l.

or dichlorvos @ 1ml/lit.

Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi visited sorghum and red gram

demonstration fields at P.Garrangi village of Rajavommangi mandal

on 05.10.2016 under TSP and observed that sorghum var. CSV-17

was at ear head formation stage and redgram var. LRG-41 at vegeta-

tive stage. Also visited honey bee keeping unit and suggested to pro-

vide sugar solution as supplementary feed during unseason.

MoU

Dr.Y.S.R. Horticultural University entered MoU with ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI),

Shimla on 05.10.2016 with an objective of sharing technology, plant material and for carrying out

collaborative research.

Meetings attended

Dr. P. Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Pathology), Smt. P Sunitha, Scientist (Ento.) and Smt. D. Aparna, Sci-

entist (Hort.) attended XXIV group meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project on Medicinal

& Aromatic Plants and Betelvine (AICRP on MAP & B) at Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture &

Forestry, Nauni-Solan, HP from 28th September to 1st October, 2016.

A meeting was conducted by the Dean of Horticulture with the teaching staff of Dr. YSRHU on

01.10.2016 for revision of lecture outlines as per the recommendations of Fifth Dean’s Committee

Dr. A. Sujatha, Associate Dean, Dr. N. Emmanuel, Assistant Professor

and M.Sc Entomology students of College of Horticulture, Venkatara-

mannagudem attended the National Meet of Entomologists on 07th and

08th October 2016 at ICAR –IIHR, Bengaluru.

Training programme attended

Dr. P. Rama Devi, Scientist (Plant Path.) HRS, Venkataramannagudem,

participated in the training programme on “Plant Quarantine: Na-

tional Regulations and Procedures’’ organized by National Institute of

Plant Health Management, Hyderabad from 3rd to 7th October, 2016.

Visitors

Sri. G. Padmanaba Naidu and Smt. M. Usha Devi , Members, Board of

Management, Dr.YSRHU visited Horticultural Research Station, Anan-

tharajupeta on 12.10.2016. The ongoing activities and various schemes

of research station were briefed to the board members by Dr. R. Naga-

raju, Sr. Scientist (Hort.) & Head and other staff members.

Smt. M. Usha Devi , Member, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU visited

Horticultural Research Station, Kovvur on 01.10.2016. Dr. B.V.K. Bha-

gavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head explained about research sta-

tion activities, tissue culture production of banana and technical pro-

gramme of AICRP on fruits and tuber crops.

Smt. D.Aananda Kumari, Project Director, ATMA, West Godavari along

with officials of Department of Agriculture visited demonstration unit of

Hydroponic fodder production started with ATMA funds during 2016-

17 at KVK, Venkataramannagudem and discussed about the programme

to be conducted during Rabi 2016-17.

Students of Bharathi English medium school, Pippara, West Go-

davari District visited Dr.YSRHU campus, Venkataramannagudem

on 01.10.2016. In this programme Dr. E. Karunsree, Senior Sci-

entist & Head and Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) ex-

plained about the activities of KVK viz., millet processing and

bakery products, improved management practices in various

crops, management of backyard poultry and hydroponics etc.,

programme on “Bathailo adhika digubadiki poshaka yajamanyam” at Doordarshan Kendra, Vijay-

awada on 13.10.2016.
