Republic Day Celebrations
Sixty ninth Republic Day was celebrated at Administrative Office,
Colleges of Horticulture, Horticultural Polytechnics, Research
Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Dr.Y.S.R. Horticultural
University on 26.01.2018.

Education
RHWEP Activities
Dr. M. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr. K Uma
Jyothi, Associate Dean, College of Horticulture, Venkataramanna-
gudem along with RHWEP students of Telikicherla village interacted
with the farmers and conducted field diagnostic visit on 27.01.2018.
Dr. K. Seshakiran, Asst Prof. (Pl. Path) and Associate Dean’s Representa-
tive for RHWEP visited Kavurivaripalem, Vedullapalem, Bethapudi
villages along with Dr. B. Nagendra Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), Cashew
Research Station, Bapatla and RHWEP students on 19.01.2018 and
observed incidence of mite infestation, viral infection, fruit rot and
dieback in chilli, TMV incidence in brinjal, termite, sclerotium rot and
fusarial wilt infestation in jasmine.
RHWEP students allotted to KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited
Market yard at Tadepalligudem on 27.01.2018 to know about the
marketing system of agricultural commodities and schemes
implemented for farmers related to marketing. Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist
(Agril Extn.) and in-charge RHWEP coordinated the visit.
Exposure Visits
Sri S.Narasimha Rao, Asst Prof (Pl. Path.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem
conducted an exposure visit to the I year B.Sc (Hort.) Horticultural
students, Chinalataripi to the Biofertilizer production unit at HRS,
Venkataramannagudem. Students got acquainted with the procedures
for preparation of different biofertilizers.
18th AGRIUNIFEST -2018
In representation of Dr.YSRHU in 18th AGRIUNIFEST held at GKVK,
Bengaluru from 30.01.2018 to 03.02.2018, 42 students from
different colleges of Dr.YSRHU started at CoH, VRGudem on
28.01.18, under the leadership of Dr. T.Suseela, Asst. Prof (Hort.)
and officer in-charge of student affairs along with Physical
Director. Dr. A. Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs has greeted the
students by waving the flag.
Research
Mango flowering
Due to low temperature coupled with meager difference in day and night temperature prevailed
during the months of December to first fortnight of January the vegetative / generative phase of
mango was delayed with respect to the variety. Except variety Neelum, all the other commercial
varieties in the farmers fields (75 %) put forth flowering during second fortnight of January and
farmers were busy with spraying and irrigation operations. In Chittoor district flowering may get

delayed compared to Y.S.R.Kadapa district.
Extension
Training Programmes
HRS, Kovvur and HRS, Peddapuram conducted an awareness
programme on “Tuber crops cultivation” with an emphasis on
improved varieties and production technology at Sovva village,
Dumbriguda mandal, Arakuvalley. Dr. B. V. K. Bhagawan Principal
Scientist (Hort.) & Head along with scientists of HRS, Kovvur and
HRS, Peddapuram coordinated the programme. Sri. D. K. Balaji, Sub-
collector, Paderu and Dr. James George, Project Coordinator, AICRP on Tuber Crops have partici-
pated in the training programme.
Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended farmer training programme as
resource person on ‘Micro Irrigation and plant protection in mango’ at Rly Kodur and Chitvel of
Y.S.R.Kadapa district on 23.01.2018.
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Sr. Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta
attended mango farmers interaction cum training programme as a
resource person conducted by ATMA Project Director, Chittoor on
27.01.2018 and clarified the doubts of farmers and advised them to
follow the university recommendations with regard to plant protection.
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Sr.Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Sri. D. Sridhar,
Scientist (Hort.) and Smt. T. Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Pl.
Path), HRS, Anantharjupeta imparted training on the
cultivation practices of mango, banana, papaya and other
important flower and vegetable crops to the farmers from
Kerala on 30-01-2018 and showed experimental plots to the farmers.
Technical team of KVK, Vonipenta conducted training on ‘Banana Bunch
Management’ at Sunkulagari palli on 18.01.2018 and explained about dif-
ferent bunch management techniques like covering with boot leaf, bunch
feeding, bunch covers etc.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort), College of Horticulture, Anan-
tharajupeta attended a training program on 28.01.2018 at Kadapa as
resource person on “Advanced production techniques in turmeric”
conducted by Regional Horticultural Training Institute, Kadapa fol-
lowed by a field visit at Buggavanka village.
Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem participated as a resource
person and delivered a lecture on “Crown cleaning aspects, biological and chemical methods in
Friends of coconut tree (FoCT)” training at KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 25.01.2018.

Awareness programmes on Rugose white fly
Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta conducted one day awareness training programme to the farmers and
officers of Department of Horticulture, East Godavari district on Rugose spiralling whitefly
incidence, symptoms and control measures in view of its spread in East and West Godavari districts
on 18.01.2018.
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta partici-
pated in an awareness meeting on Rugose spiralling whitefly organized
by Department of Horticulture and explained about the management
measures to be taken against the invasive pest on 19.01.2018 in
Kadiyapulanka village for farmers and nursery men.
Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta, Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist,
(Hort.) & Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.) released
parasitoids Encarsia guadelopae against rugose spiralling whitefly at
Kalavalapalli and created awareness for its management to the farmers
on 20.01.2018.
Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research along with scientists of HRS,
Ambajipeta participated in an awareness meeting on Rugose spiraling
whitefly organized by Department of Horticulture at Kadiyam village of
East Godavari district on 26.01.18 where in Dr. Joseph Raj Kumar,
Principal Scientist (Ent.) CPCRI, RC – Kayankulam participated as a
resource person and explained about the Rugose spiraling whitefly
symptoms, life cycle and management practices
Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta participated in an awareness meeting on
Rugose spiralling whitefly organized by Department of Horticulture at
Malkipuram village of East Godavari district on 23.01.2018.
HRS, Ambajipeta conducted one day awareness training programme on
Rugose spiralling whitefly incidence, symptoms and management
practices to the Multi Purpose Extension Officers of Gannavaram mandal
along with Horticultural officer on 29.01.2018.
Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta participated in awareness meeting on
rugose spiralling whitefly organized by Department of Horticulture at
Amalapuram on 27.01.2018 where in Dr. Joseph Raj Kumar, Principal
Scientist (Ento.) CPCRI, RC – Kayankulam participated as a resource
person and explained about the pest and control measures.
Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem attended as resource
persons on “Improved cultivation practices of vegetables” at
Prakasarao palem village organized by Regional Horticultural
Training Institute, Gopannapalem, Department of Horticulture on
22.01.2018.

Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta conducted 6 days training programme
for unemployed rural youth with the financial assistance from
Coconut Development Board (CDB) from 29.01.2018 to 03.02.2018
at HRS, Ambajipeta and imparted skills in climbing coconut trees
with climbing device and scientific management practices on crop
production, plant protection and quality planting material
production.
Cashew Flowering Festival
KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted “Cashew flowering festival
and Field day” on 31.01.2018 at Gurugumilli village, Buttaihgudem
mandal and explained about pest and disease management in cashew
and provided critical inputs and sprayers under Tribal Sub plan
(TSP) programme. A total of 300 tribal farmers have participated
and learned about Integrated Crop Management in cashew.
Voational Training Programme
Six days vocational training programme on “Friends of Coconut
Tree (FoCT)” was conducted by KVK, Venkataramannagudem from
22.01.2018 to 27.01.2018. In this programme twenty participants
were trained in use of palm climbing device and production and
protection aspects of coconut. Scientists of KVK and HRS delivered
lectures on various topics in coconut cultivation. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy,
Director of Extension attended as a chief guest and distributed
certificates and climbing machines to the farmers in the valedictory function.
Eight days vocational training programme on “Aquaculture and Post
Harvest Technology” was initiated at KVK, Venkataramannagudem on
29.01.2018 to final year degree students of Government Degree
College, Ganapavaram.
KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted vocational training program on
‘‘Skills in maintaining bee hives and extraction of Honey’’ from
22.01.2018 to 27.01.2018 sponsored by Rastriya Krishi Vikas
Yojana. The Program was inaugurated on 22.01.2018 by
Sri.B.Srinivasulu, PHO, ITDA, Rampachodavaram. On 25.01.2018
Dr. S.Adarsha Scientist (Ento.) and Ms.Srividya Rani, N., Scientist
(Extn.) conducted an exposure visit to State Beekeeping
Extension Unit at Vijayrai, West Godavari district. Dr.J.Dilip babu, Director of Research explained the
benefits of group activities like farmer producer organizations in marketing of honey during the
valedictory session on 27.01.2018. A total of 28 farmers from East Godavari, Srikakulam and
Chittoor districts have participated.

Diagnostic Visits
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Senior scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharjupeta
visited mango orchards at Settigunta, Obulvaripalli and C.M.
Rachapalli of Chitvel mandal, Y.S,R. District and observed the
flowering behavior, pest and disease incidence and recommended the
suitable control measures to be taken during the second fortnight of
January 2018.
On 17.01.2018, technical team of KVK, Vonipenta visited papaya and
banana fields for diagnosis at Akulanarayana palli village of
Kasinayana mandal and identified boron deficiency, leaf curl virus
and ring spot virus in papaya and thrips damage in banana. Recom-
mended the application of borax@2g/l for boron deficiency and
spraying of [email protected] ml/l or fipronil@2ml/l against the viral
diseases.
On 22.01.2018, Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) along with
Research Associate (Hort.) visited chilli fields at Sunkula Gari Palli vil-
lage and identified fruit borer damage. Recommended application of
[email protected]% or [email protected]% or spinosad @ 0.025%.
Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) and Research Associate
(Hort.) visited apple ber and water melon fields in Pullaiah Gari
Satram village on 25.01.2018 and explained about the importance of
fruit fly traps and demonstrated the erection of fruit fly traps against
fruitfly damage. Also observed incidence of leaf curling in water
melon and suggested application of systemic insecticides to control
the vector.
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out diagnostic field visit to
coconut gardens and nurseries in Kadiyapulanka village of East Godavari district along with Dr. P.
Kalidas, Principal Scientist, IIOPR, Pedavegi and created awareness on rugose spiralling whitefly
symptoms and management in association with Department of Horticulture among the farmers and
nurserymen on 17.01.2018.
Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) and Research Associate
(Extn.) visited Vonipenta village on 29.01.2018 to diagnose pest and
disease incidence in marigold and recommended soil drenching with
copper oxy [email protected]% or [email protected]% or
[email protected]% against collar rot disease.
Dr. M. Ramaiah, Assoc. Professor (Ento.), CoH, Anantharajupeta had
gone for diagnostic visit on 16-01-2018 at Mettapalyam and on
20.01.2018 at Murakambattu, Chittoor Dt. Interacted with the farmers
and suggested the control measures against various pests and diseases
of mango.

Dr. M.Krishna Reddy, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.), IIHR, Bengaluru made a
diagnostic visit to vegetables and ornamental crops along with the other
teaching staff, Dr. Syed Sadarunnisa, Asst. Prof. (Hort.) Dr. Y.Sireesha, Asst.
Prof. (Pl. Path.) at CoH, Anantharajupeta on 30.01.2018.
Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) K.V.K, V.R.Gudem conducted diagnostic
visit on 19.01.2018 to monitor the incidence of Spiralling whitefly in
Kommugudem and Neeladripuram villages and observed the infestation
of Spiralling whitefly in coconut, oilpalm, cocoa, guava, banana and apple
ber fields and suggested to spray neem oil@5 ml/l mixed with 10 g of
detergent powder against whitefly. Spraying with starch solution was
also recommended @ 10g/l if sooty mould is observed.
Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, V.R.Gudem attended awareness
training programme on “Spiralling white fly” on 20.01.2018 organized
by HRS, Ambajipeta and Department of Horticulture. Dr. E. Karunas-
ree, Senior scientist & Head and Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK,
V.R.Gudem released the parasitoids (Encarsia gudelopae) collected
from HRS, Ambajipeta in Spiralling white fly affected orchards of
Kommugudem and Neeladripuram villages.
Sri Bhanumurthy K.C, Scientist (Hort.) and N. Srividya Rani, Scientist
(Extns.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited tomato (Var. Arka Samrat) and
cowpea fields at Peddageddhada village of Rampachodavaram mandal
on 27.01.18 and suggested to go for trellising in tomato to spray
wettable sulphur @ 3 gm/l or carbendazim @ 1gm/l of water against
powdery mildew in cowpea.
Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited
brinjal fields and demonstrated installation of pheromone traps and
Yellow sticky traps against brinjal shoot & fruit borer and sucking
pests.
Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK Venkatara-
mannagudem visited poultry farm on 25.01.2018 at Tadepalligudem
and observed Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) symptoms in
Vanaraja birds and suggested treatment with Tylosin @100 mg/
kg.b.wt and Ambiplex syrup (@10ml for 100 birds orally for 5 days.
Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited chilli fields in
Perampeta village of Jangareddygudem mandal on 31.01.2018 and
observed thrips infestation and suggested spraying of fipronil@2
ml/l.

Sri Bhanumurthy K.C, Scientist (Hort), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited
chrysanthemum field in Peddageddada village of Rampachodavaram
mandal on 18.01.2018 and observed leaf spot disease and suggested
the farmers to harvest flowers followed by application of mancozeb
@ 2.5g/l to control the disease.
Front Line Demonstrations
On 20.01.2018, Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.), Research
Associate (Home Science) and Research Associate (SS & AC)
conducted demonstration on application of biofertilizers in chillies
to enhance crop yield and also provided inputs like Azospirillum @
2 kg and PSB @ 2 kg per acre to ten beneficiary farmers from
Mudireddypalli Thanda, Adireddipalli and T. Kothapalli villages of
Mydukur mandal.
On 30.01.2018, Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.), Research
Associate (Home Science) and Research Associate (Extn.) have con-
ducted demonstration on three pronged wheel hoe practice of weed-
ing in comparision with conventional manual weeding and recorded
the feed back on comparative advantage of the machinery from
women farmers in order to reduce the drudgery at Vonipenta Village.
KVK, Venkataramannagudem scientists conducted mid season
training programme on blackgram var.TBG – 104 on 30.01.2018
under CFLDs on pulses in collaboration with Department of Agricul-
ture at Tekkellapudi Village, Dwaraka Tirumala mandal and
explained the seasonal management in black gram and
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension distributed the critical inputs
for pest and disease management to the farmers. .
On 31.01.2018, Scientists of KVK, Vonipenta have demonstrated the
process of multiplication of bio-fertilizer azospirillum with FYM and
neem cake at T.Kothapalli village of Mydukur mandal.
Field days
On 30.01.2018, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted field day on
demonstration of redgram LRG-52 variety at Kunduluru village of
Chintur mandal where in Sri.M.Abhishikth Kishore, IAS, ITDA, Chintur
attended as chief guest and released a pamphlet on “Kandi Saagu” on
this occasion. Dr. A. Srinivas, Senior Scientist & Head and S. Adarsha,
Scientist (Ento.) have coordinated the programme .
Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem
conducted field day on groundnut in Battuvaarigudem, Chintalapudi
mandal under CFLDs – Oil seeds on 27.01.2018 and demonstrated
mechanical harvesting of ground nut with thresher in the field.

General
Visitors
Dr. V. Damodara Naidu, Hpn’ble Vice-Chancellor, ANGRAU &
Member, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU visited University
Campus, Venkatramannagudem on 20.01.2018. The University
officers along with scientists explained about the activities going on
at CoH, HRS and KVK, Venkataramannagudem. Also visited different
labs, ELP units and interacted with students.
Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr. K.T. Venkata Ramana,
Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Zonal Research Head, Rayalasema
Zone and Dr. B.V.K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Zonal
Research Head, Coastal Zone-1, visited HRS, Anantharajupeta on
23.01.2018 and reviewed the on going projects and necessary
instructions were given to develop tissue culture lab at HRS,
Anantharajupeta.
Progressive farmers from Nellore district visited HRS, Mahanandi on 24.01.2018 and
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (PP) & Head and Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (H) explained
about the ongoing research projects and multiplication of various plant materials.
Dr. N.K. Hedge, Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. M. Krishna Reddy,
Principal Scientist (Pl. Path), IIHR, Bengaluru along with Dr. V.N.P. Siva
Rama Krishna, Scientist (Hort) and Dr. Syed Sadarunnisa, Scientist
(Hort), CoH, Anantharajupeta visited experimental plots at HRS,
Anantharajupeta under polyhouse and open field conditions on 29th &
30th of Jan-2018.
A batch of 45 farmers and officials from Palakkad Dist. Kerala under
ATMA, Karshak Naipunya Award Programme visited HRS and College of
Horticulture on 30.01.2018. Dr. D. Srihari, Dean of PG Studies,
explained them about the university and Academic and Research
activities. Scientists of HRS and CoH explained them about cultivation
and Post-harvest management of various horticultural crops.
Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR – Central, Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, ICAR, Goa along
with Dr.A.R. Desai, Principal Scientist (Fruit Science), Dr. R.S. Rajkumar, S (LPM), Dr. Gopal Mahajan,
Scientist (Soil Science), Shri Saurbh Muni, F&AO visited HRS, Ambajipeta and interacted with
scientists regarding ongoing research activities and visited the experimental plots and bio control
lab on 18.01.2018.
Sri.G. Krishna Rao, Research Associate (Ento.), from Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta
visited Coconut Research Station, Aliyarnagar, Tamilnadu Agricultural University and brought third
consignment of Encarsia guadelopae parasitoid and released in Kalavalapalli, Chikkala, Neeladripu-
ram, Korumamidi and Chagallu villages in West Godavari and Kadiyapulanka, Pottilanka villages in
East Godavari on 20.01.2018.

Fifty farmers from Orissa state visited university campus on 24.01.2018
learned about various technologies demonstrated at KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem and also visited Center of excellence for protected cultivation of
vegetables and flowers at university campus.
On 27.01.2018, eighteen trainee IAS officers from Kerala, Karnataka,
UP, AP and Telangana visited cage aquaculture unit established by
KVK, Pandirimamidi at Bhupatipalem Reservoir, Rampachodavaram,
East Godavari Dist. Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head explained the
cultural and management practices of cage aquaculture and other
ongoing KVK activities like honey bee keeping, millets value addition,
poultry, goatery, cashew nursery. The trainee IAS officers interacted with tribal fishermen
regarding reservoir activities.
Meetings
Dr J .Dilip Babu, Director of Research, DrYSRHU, Reviewed RKVY projects of all the research stations
in Rayalaseema Zone along with Zonal Research Head and Heads of the Stations at Citrus Research
Station, Tirupati on 22.01.2018.
KVK, Venkataramannagudem participated and arranged an
exhibition stall on the occasion of Matsya Kisan Mela at Undi
organized by Fisheries Research Station, Sri Venkateswara
Veterinary University. Sri V.V. Siva Ramaraju garu, MLA, Undi
along with Dr. Y. Hari Babu, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SVVU,
Tirupati visited the stall and appreciated the KVK efforts in reach-
ing the farmers.
Radio Programmes
Dr.B. Ramesh Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem attended radio recording on
“Mamidilo Nanyamaina Adhika Digubadulaku Pinde dasalo chepattavalasina yajamanya
padhathulu” at All India Radio, Vijayawada on 31.01.2018.
Awards
Dr. B.Tanuja Priya, Asst. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta recieved “Kanwar Virender Singh
Memorial All India Best Publication Award in Fruit Science, 2017” by SADHNA (Society for
Advancement of Human and Nature, Dr. Y.S.Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry,
Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India .
