Social Initiative 2016The Social Initiative Committee comprises of Brian Connaughton, Brendan Macken, Michael McGinley and Tom O’Doherty. The Social Committee met on a number of occasions and decided to organise a trip to Collins Barracks and the G.P.O. on the 30th June 2016. Those sites were deemed appropriate for a social initiative outing as the country celebrated the 1916 centenary this year.

It was a very enjoyable tour that was guided at both venues. There was thirty six people on the tour. The committee also organised a visit from playwright Seamus O’Rourke to the Club on the 16th October with his one man play “Danger Money”. This was well attended and all enjoyed this social evening.

The Social Initiative Committee is a very worthwhile initiative as it offers people who might not be involved with the club in other areas to enjoy our facilities and partake in outings. I urge the new Committee to continue to support this initiative and also look in to organising the Scór this coming year as this is a very important area of GAA Clubs all over the country.

Yours sincerely, Brian Connaughton

Online Registration and LottoIn February 2016 memberships and lotto went online through the myclubfinances portal. This is a great system for centralised accurate tracking of all memberships. We should continue to promote this system as the primary means of registering as this year registrations to Kilcock GAA on this site will feed directly to Croke Park from this system. There is also a lot of options for PRO to use this portal as a communications tool that could be further utilised in the future.

Presentation and Reunion NightOn Saturday March 12th 2016 a very successful presentation and reunion night was held. Our second team footballers and our U21 footballers received their league and championship medals. Kilcock Hurling AGM ReportThe Hurling committee held their AGM in December 2015 and the focus was on the continued development of underage hurling within the club.

Underage Hurling

The Bord na Óg continue to do great work developing hurling at all ages in the underage structures within the club. There is always a need for more hurling coaches and people with hurling experience are encouraged to get involved with the underage section.

Adult Hurling

Andy Quinn was appointed manager of the adult hurling team for 2016. Along with selectors Fergus Smith, Declan Browne and Packie Bowe, they worked hard and the training and spirit within the group was good. Unfortunately this was not reflected in the performances on the field and after failing to qualify for the league semi finals the team refocused for the championship. Despite an encouraging start the results did not go our way ending up with the team getting relegated down to Junior for 2017. It is imperative that we bounce right back up to intermediate level.

Minor Hurling

The minor hurlers decided not to amalgamate with Maynooth in 2016. There were a core group of 16 players who attended nearly all the games and we were competitive in most games. After narrowly missing out on a league semi final spot after some great displays the championship was held late in the summer. The lads were in a tough group with Naas and Maynooth and unfortunately did not qualify for semi finals.

Conclusion

I would like to thank Brendan Macken, Ciara McNickle and all the executive members for their efforts and support throughout the year.

Finally I would like to thank Frank Spellman as chairman, and all the committee members for their hard work throughout the year and we look forward to 2017, to continuing to grow and develop hurling at all ages throughout the club.

Yours in Sport

Niall Jones

Adult Hurling Team Report

Managing the Hurling team in 2016 was a pleasure and below outlines my account of the year. We were lucky enough to have Fergus Smith as coach/manager and also Packie Bowe and Declan Brown as selectors.

Training commenced on the 2nd of February, we entered a team in the Leinster club league for the 1st time which was a little disappointing as it proved hard to get players together at that time of year. We played 2 games and lost both but with promising performances from our team. Then we went into the league campaign on the back of a couple of hard weeks training.Played 7: won 2: lost 4: drew 1 That left us with 5 points out of the league campaign in which we played hot and cold.

The draw was made for the 1st round of the championship were we got possibly the toughest team in Naas. The team trained hard and got in some good challenges 3 in total. When we played Naas on the day they were a lot stronger than us, we were beaten comprehensively. Then we ended up in the losers group, playing Celbridge, Moorefield and Ardclough. We played Celbridge and won quiet comfortable.  Due to injuries and holidays and not preforming we lost to Moorefield and Ardclough, which meant we had to play Celbridge again in a regulation playoff to stay intermediate. This fixture was changed on a number of occasions to suit both teams but in the end we came up short to a stronger Celbridge team.

So we had to wait to see who would win the Junior Championship. It was a month before we got to play Coil Dubh over in Hawkfield. The result was very very disappointing after all the effort the players put in. As a management team we know that Kilcock are a strong team, but we need to commit to both training and matches in order to perform as a team to the best of our ability which is all we can ask for.

Kilcock hurling lost some more players at the start of the season, we need to assess why this happened and rectify this problem as we cannot afford to lose players if we want to build strength and resilience as a panel of players.  We gained 4 new players this year and I would like to welcome them to Kilcock and to hold onto what we have as well.

The future will be good for Kilcock hurling, this year saw good young hurlers come in and try their best which is all we ever asked,” TRY YOUR BEST!”. Younger players could be shown the ropes over the next few years by the more experienced and talented players in the club.

I would like to thank Packie and Declan for their input throughout the year. I would like to thank Eugene Kearny for his time and help on match days as our First aider and much more.

Page 16: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

Fergus Smith has been with me on this journey, he has been a brilliant coach, manager, adviser and just the knowledge of the game, as a club we need to keep him involved some way or another. Thank you very much.

Thank you Niall Jones Hurling Secretary for your help throughout the year. Finally, to the players thank you for your commitment, your experience, good times, bad times and the whole year I loved it.

Most of us probably couldn’t commit to playing/managing/coaching or any other part of the GAA without the support of family and friends which I would like to thank very much. We lost some good people this year who will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Yours FaithfullyAndy Quinn

Minor Hurling Team ReportThis year Kilcock completed in the Minor hurling Division 2 league and Minor B Championship.

Under the management team of Mick Stokes and Niall Jones, with the assistance of Siobhan Lavin and other parents, the lads showed great enthusiasm throughout the year.

The league begun in late March with a tough away assignment against Naas. Despite a sterling second half performance where every man completed valiantly, the lead Naas had amassed in the first half was enough for them to take the two points. The next encounter was with Naomh Conleths in Sarsfields GAA grounds. On a sunny Sunday morning, the lads hurled one of their best displays all year and were victorious. In keeping with typical Irish weather, the next match was played under lights in Kilcock on one of the stormiest nights of the year against Maynooth. Kilcock played with the elements at their backs in the first half and were ahead at half time. A hugely impressive and resilient second half performance

Page 17: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

resulted in a draw after a late Kilcock free. The final league was away to Broadford. A victory in this game would have secured a league semi final spot. The game was very competitive with both teams playing good hurling. Unfortunately Broadford prevailed by one point at the end of the game. With a long break before the championship, training was postponed and with players training with U16 or Intermediate team.

Playing in the ‘B’ championship, Kilcock got a tough draw with Naas, Maynooth and Coill Dubh in their group. The first game was away to Maynooth, and with Kilcock missing some key players Maynooth prevailed. The second game was at home to a strong Naas side. Kilcock were competitive for a lot of the game but Naas pulled clear to win. The final game against Coill Dubh was postponed a couple of times and in the end was never played.

Many of the players are already hurling for Kilcock’s intermediate team and that has got to be encouraging for the future. There is a good group of U16 and U17 players coming through also that will become important players for the adult team in the future also.

On behalf of Mick Stokes and Siobhan Lavin, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the players for their enthusiasm and efforts all year.

Is Mise Le Meas,

Niall Jones.

Kilcock Intermediate Football Report 2016It was a privilege to be appointed as team management for the season beginning in 2016. As a result of the proposed changes to the league format for adult football in Kildare, it was clear that the leagues would be well contested and have an unusually competitive edge as a result of the extra number of teams to be demoted in the re- structuring of the league.

Training began under Gerry Smith’s guidance in late January, and was well attended. We reached the semi-final of the Keogh cup, which we lost on an inclement night in Raheens. We beat Caragh in the first league match, but suffered two bad results in the next two games, which left us in difficulties in relation to where we needed to be in the league. After 4 games we only had 3 points, but the players dug in in had a great performance against Maynooth in front of a great local support, and won this crucial derby game with an attractive brand of football. This performance was the catalyst for an improved run of performances and results, which brought us back in contention for the league.

The league developed into a race between 8 teams, and was competitive to the extent that going into the last round of fixtures; any 6 of these teams could have been relegated to division 3 for next year. Again, the players produced an excellent performance, again in front of a large Kilcock support, and beat St Kevin’s who were in the running for promotion with us after a determined and spirited display. We eventually finished second in the league, which

Page 18: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

in any other year would have been good enough to be promoted back to division 1 for next year.

However, finishing second in the league qualified us for the league final, which we lost by a point to Clogherinkoe in a game that in fairness we believe should have been won. This was followed by another disappointing display in the second round of the championship against Ballyteague,( after we had accounted for Nurney in the first round in early May.) This was a game in which we went a point up with ten minutes to play and eventually lost by 8 points. This left us with a winner take all game versus Raheens to qualify for a quarter final place.

This was a game in which we started well and went 4 points up after ten minutes, and seemed to be in a strong position. However, a serious injury to Eoin Powderly as a result of which he suffered a season ending cruciate ligament injury. And a further injury to Shane O Rourke seemed to have a de stabilising effect on the team, and after a spirited effort we were beaten by 4.12 to 2.10. This was a disappointing way to end the year, but such is the nature of sport.

We were in a position to give game time to a lot of our younger players during the course of the year, and hopefully this will be of benefit for the upcoming season. However it would be re miss of us to think that things will just happen for us on the field. It is fair to say that we all must realize that it will take nothing less than complete commitment from all of us involved in the promotion of our games if Kilcock are to return to where we all think we should be.

In conclusion, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Gerry Long for his assistance as physio, David Powderly for doing the stats job for us, and all those who gave their time and assistance by way of umpiring and doing the line for our games.

We realise that without your assistance and support our jobs are made much more difficult. We also wish to thank the many people who came to our matches to support the team during the year. Your presence at the games gave the players a sense of worth and appreciation. This means a lot, especially to our younger players, as it should help them realize that we appreciate the honest efforts they make when playing for our club.

We would also like to give our hopes for a complete and speedy recovery to Eoin Powderly and Tomas O Brien, who both suffered cruciate ligament injuries during the year. We would also like to place on record our gratitude to all the players who made a genuine and honest effort on behalf of the club in their performances this year. We also wish to thank the executive of the club for their support during the year, under the chairmanship of Brendan Macken.

Finally, we would urge all players interested in playing for Kilcock next year to commit fully, prepare properly, take responsibility for their own performances with a view to returning to the top level of football where we believe Kilcock should be. Remember, ní neart go chuir le chéile.

Willie Hughes- Gerry Smith- Declan Mulhall- Kieran Burke.

Kilcock 2nd Team report 2016This year we competed in the Division 4 North League. We started the campaign with a win against Raheens which continued against Johnstownbridge, Straffan, Kill, St Kevin’s, Sallins and only one loss against Confey.

We progressed to the final of the league after an enthralling encounter against Ballymore Eustace that went to extra time. Unfortunately, we lost the League final to a much stronger St. Kevin’s team in Newbridge.

In the Kildare Senior Reserve ‘A’ Championship we won our first game against Johnstownbridge and our second against Raheens. We were bet in the semi-final by Confey to see us bow out of the championship match for this year. This is the first time in many years that we progressed this far in this competition.

A big thank you to all players who made themselves available to play with the Reserve team. It is a good experience for Minor and U21 players to gain experience of playing at Senior level.

Thank you to Brendan Macken Jr. for captaining the team this year.Thank you to Eugene Kearney, Pat Larkin and Bernie Durkan for all their help and hard work. It is greatly appreciated. Also, to Marie Durkan for washing the jerseys!

Best of luck to this team in 2017.

Tom Durkan

Kilcock under 21 Football 2016The U21s were knocked out by Clane in the first round of the championship this year. This was a disappointing result as we felt there was great potential in the team and we did not perform even near to our capability on the day. Clane would go on to reach the semi-final of the championship.

I felt that the u21 team should have been got together earlier than a few weeks before the championship. They could have done some fitness work or gym work to ensure they weren’t coming into the training rusty or unfit. Despite having an all-Ireland winning inter county footballer available to train the team numbers for training were very poor. The average number of people training was roughly 12. Too many players of the ages 20 and 21 did not play for the team and we were dependant on many younger lads to make numbers. Also, some of the 20/21 year olds who did turn up had not played for the intermediate team or in fact any football team all year for different individual reasons. It proved a struggle to get these lads up to A championship intensity in the space of 3 weeks especially when many lads did not turn up training.

To compete in the A championship grade preparation must be much better. Many players had work and college and other different reasons as excuses for not attending trainings. Despite

Page 20: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

all this there is great potential in this team as was stated by Martin McElhanney who commented on certain individuals and was impressed by the team as a whole.

This group of players and all teams in the club should be entered into the A championship if they are capable of competing in order for the club to go forward. It is essential these players are intermingled with the senior team as there is great ability present in the team and all players should be encouraged to stay involved in the club.

Declan Gibbons,

Team Manager

Kilcock Minor Football 2016Overall it was a good year for this Kilcock minor team. We won the division one league going unbeaten and putting in some great performances along the way. Unfortunately, the championship ended at the semi-final stage as we lost to Clane by two points. This was a disappointing result as we did not feel the team played to their full capacity on the day. Despite this we beat two very strong teams of Clane and Sarsfields in the group stages and also drew with Naas who went on to win out the Kildare championship as well as the entire Leinster club minor championship.

I felt there was a great effort put in by the players and management and the commitment displayed by all was immense. Despite defeat it was a very enjoyable year. There is great potential in this panel going forward and there are many individual players of great ability. A lot of younger players developed a lot from their participation in the team and this can be seen by the 5 players who are now a part of the Kildare minor team for 2017. It is essential this group of players is kept involved in the club as we cannot afford to lose these lads in the coming year or two. If these young players are gradually intermingled with the intermediate team the club will have a very bright future.

Kilcock U17 Football 2016The County board introduced the U17 league this year to be played after the Minor Championship, we has earlier in the year participated in the Leinster U17 intercounty league playing opposition from Westmeath and Meath playing 4 matches winning 3 and narrowly losing by one point to the eventual winners .The majority of the U17 panel had been involved with the successful club minor winning team and the Minors successful run in the kildare minor Championship ensured the majority of the boys were fit and football sharp in the start of the U17 league, kilcock was we were entered in the Div 1 league in a strong group of the following teams ,Carbury ,Celbridge and Clane and our first opposition was Carbury away who we beat comprehensively the first time this team had beaten Carbury in a competitive fixture and next up was Celbridge at home where a tough game saw us take the spoils and our next game to determine home advantage for the semi-finals was Clane where we finished the game with a comfortable 4 point margin, due to a competing soccer fixture our home semi-final against Moorefield was re scheduled and we lost home advantage and we travelled to Moorefield on a dark wet cold November evening where we lost a key player in the first half we dug out a huge victory which put us in a final against the heavy weight outfit Sarfields who we had never beaten in a competitive fixture, we started slowly in the game and were 4 points down within 10minutes and looked like another beating was on the cards when we scored 1-2

Bord na nÓg Report 2016Chairman’s Report, 12/12/16

Chairman: Ed Goodwin

Secretary: Brendan McGlynn

P.R.O.: Karen O’Brien

A Chairde,

The Chairman’s role is an easy one compared to the work put in by all the volunteer mentors and administrators throughout the year; I must firstly acknowledge the excellent work of both Brendan McGlynn as Secretary and Karen O’Brien as PRO in dealing with the constant ‘slings and arrows’ of their roles. Their efforts ensured our children had a great year of sport in 2016.

Page 23: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

It was a good year for Bord na nÓg in Kilcock GAA; we started the year working hard to deal with pressure on pitches and training space due to weather problems in January and February. The spring weather relented somewhat and we started in Kildare Bord na nÓg and Kildare North Board competitions.

Congratulations to all teams and mentors for their endeavours in 2016; we succeed when and where we work together to ensure our children have fun and continue to participate in our games.

We set out at the beginning of the year to deliver on our aspiration to employ a coach for our club and as I write we completed the final paperwork for the Leinster Council to close-out the process of appointing this coach. We expect to have the coach on-board in early 2017.

This success was achieved with the full support of Kilcock GAA Club Chairman Brendan Macken and the Executive Committee who have supported us wholeheartedly throughout the year.

Please accept my sincere thanks for all your enthusiasm, your efforts and your continuing support for our club.

Happy Christmas to you and yours and all the very best wishes for 2017.

Is mise le meas,

Ed Goodwin

Bord na nÓg Secretary’s Report, 12/12/2016IntroductionThis year proved to be very successful for Bord na nÓg both on and off the field of play. The club fielded twenty teams, meaning that the club was represented at each age group from under 7 to under 16 in both football and hurling. Bord na nÓg would like to thank all club volunteers, parents and players for their support throughout the year.

Briefly outlined below are the various activities involving Bord na nÓg throughout the year.

St Patricks DayThe annual tradition of Bord na nÓg players walking in the St. Patricks Day parade was upheld this year with players from nursery, u7, u8, u9, u10 teams participating along with their coaches and parents.

Easter Camp

Page 24: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

The club ran its first Easter football camp in March 2016 with roughly 50 children attending. Such camps represent a great opportunity for the club to develop the skills of our players while at the same time generating revenue. A special thanks to all the coaches who helped during the week and to Andy Quinn who proposed the idea and coordinated the camp for the week.

Street LeaguesOur annual football street leagues were held over the first two weeks of June for players up to under 10. Over 100 players took part in the leagues. We had 8 teams managed by current club mentors and parents. The finals day was a great success played on Saturday 18th June with children and parents enjoying a BBQ in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

July Club CampA football and hurling camp was organised again by Andy Quinn in the first week of July with over 50 kids attending. Thanks again to Andy Quinn and the coaches for all their work throughout the week.

Cúl Camp Kildare GAA’s Cúl camp was held in the club in the fourth week of July with over 100 players attending. Thanks to Ed Goodwin who facilitated the camp for the week.

August CampThe clubs third camp was held on the first week of August. This was a football and hurling camp ran by Brendan McGlynn with 55 kids participating for the week. Thanks again to all the young coaches who helped during the week.

Fake Wedding Our main fundraiser to help finance the employment of a club coach was held in the Hamlet Court on Saturday 1st October. The night proved to be very enjoyable and a great success generating a profit of €10,500. A massive amount of time and effort went into this event and the efforts of all the cast on the night, fundraising committee, mentors who sold tickets and parents who supported the event is much appreciated. A special mention must be made to the camogie club who approached Bord na nÓg with this idea and were the driving force behind its success. The event highlighted the potential mutual benefit of Bord na nÓg working with other sections within the club.

Club Coach

A new Games Development Officer will be appointed to the club in January. This is part of a Leinster Council plan to promote Gaelic games in counties with increasing populations within Leinster. This initial three year project will be partly funded by Croke Park. Kilcock, along with other large clubs in Kildare, have applied for a GPO that will work with two clubs concurrently. The cost will be €10,000 per annum per club. The GPO will work for 38 hours per week split evenly between the two clubs. As of this date we aren’t aware of which other club our GPO will be affiliated to.

Hurling Skills CompetitionUnder the guidance of Daragh Nolan a hurling skills competition was held in November for hurlers from under 9 to under 13. This proved to be a very enjoyable day with prizes awarded to the winners in each age group. Thanks to all mentors, coaches and parents who helped on the day with the competition and refreshments for players afterwards.

First AidA First Aid course was ran by Bord na nÓg in November/December. Nine mentors took part with nearly all age groups represented. All mentors are asked to ensure that they have a fully stocked first aid kit at all matches and training sessions.

CoachingPaul Divilly ran an Award 1 hurling coaching course in the club in November with four of our hurling mentors taking part. It is planned to continue with more coaching courses next year to upskill our coaches.

Disco10 Bord na nÓg disco’s were held throughout the year and proved to be a reliable source of income to the club. A massive thanks to all mentors who helped supervise these discos and to Ed Goodwin who coordinates each month.

Kids Christmas PartyOur annual kids Christmas party will be held on Saturday 17th December with a juvenile disco and a special visit from Santa. All players, brothers, sisters and parents are invited to attend.

O’Neills Online shopIn order to make it easier for parents to buy club gear, Bord na nÓg approached O’Neills regarding an online club shop. This is now up and running for the last few months stocking a wide range of club gear which can be bought directly from O’Neills.

Bord na Óg Team ReportsBord na Nóg Nursery Report 2016Our nursery was held on Saturday mornings at the clubhouse. A total of over 70 under 4/5/6’s registered for the nursery made up of boys and girls. Roughly 25 footballers and hurlers will graduate from the nursery into under 7 Go Games for the 2017 season with 4/5 coaches involved at this age group.

The nursery ran from mid March until mid November with a summer break taken in July. On a number of occasions throughout the year we had to cancel nursery due to inclement weather, with the consensus among the coaches being that it would be counter productive to try to train four and five year olds on very wet days. These cancellations did however break the routine for parents of bringing their kids to the club every Saturday for GAA training.

To try and avoid this disruption next year and to ensure that our young players are enjoying coaching in a warm and dry environment, Bord na nÓg will plan to use the club hall next year for nursery during the months of February, March, October and November. This will help to extend the season for our new players as well as giving parents the clear message that the nursery will be on every week during the season.

Up to 20 coaches helped out at nursery throughout the year, with a core group of 6 -8 coaches. Bord na nÓg really appreciates all the work done with our nursery players who represent the future of our club. As a number of regular coaches will be moving up to under 7 Go Games in 2017, it is crucially important that we recruit new coaches to the nursery in the new year. We would like to acknowledge the adult hurlers who helped out at nursery on a rota basis and we hope to recruit adult hurlers and footballers next year to help out. This is vitally important to the future success of the nursery, as the young players really look up to and admire their adult role models within the club.

The competition is non-competitive, with the results noted as a draw on each occasion,.We had great turnout of players ranging from 16 to 24. We rotated the players at each quarter allowing all players to play in different positions. We generally had more players than our opposition and at times we had situations where we changed the entire team at each 10min quarter.

Under 8 Football & HurlingThe main mentors were Andy Quinn & Darren Conroy.  Through the year the following also helped out with training and at matches:David Farrell, Jason Miley, Paul Norris. A number of other parents helped out on occasion too.

Through the year there were on average 18-26 children regularly attending the weekly training and matches during the league.  On average slightly more attended football games versus hurling games.

We trained weekly from late March until Mid July, taking a break for approx 5 weeks, then restarting in mid August and we are due to finish training on 16th November.  Training takes place every Wednesday from 6.45 to 8pm. In the first half of the year we trained in both football and hurling each week (approx 30-40 mins each). For the second half of the year we alternated between football and hurling every second week - concentrating on the code due to be played in the scheduled match the following weekend.

The U8's were competitive in both the Spring and Autumn leagues.  In the Spring league we entered one football team and one hurling team as were unsure of numbers.  We had very good numbers and so entered two football teams in the Autumn league and one in the hurling. Attendance was largely consistent through the year with 18-24 children attending football games.  For hurling we had between 12-18 children attending games.

Darren Conroy

Under 9 Football & HurlingUnder 9 football would  get between 10-14 players. At our last match, we had 18 players. Training was on Wednesdays in St. Joseph's. We did very well in the matches.

In hurling we would be low on numbers. Anything between 6-8 players. We would be weak at hurling. Good improvements in hurling, but still behind other teams.

Eoin Kenny

Under 10 Football & HurlingThere is a good group of committed players and coaches at this age group. We have a panel of roughly 24 for football and 20 for hurling. Our training schedule is football on Tuesdays and hurling on Thursdays. We trained at the club, St Joseph’s and also used the hurling wall and astro-pitch in Scoil Ui Riada. Several training sessions were also combined with the under 9 and 11 hurling teams.

Page 30: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

We entered two teams in the Spring hurling and football leagues. We were able to field two teams for all our matches and were competitive throughout.

In the Autumn league we entered two football and one hurling team, fulfilling all our fixtures and being able to hold our own against all clubs.

The panel of players consists of: Dáire McNickle, Donagh Ryan, Alex Margalit, Ben Mulligan, Kevin O’Keeffe, Dara McGlynn, Evan Murphy, Evan Gallagher, Luke Bourke, Pierce Kavanagh, Leigh Mulvaney, Seán Walsh, Alex Geraghty, Luke McTiernan, Cillian McCauley, Oisín Miley, Seán Kelly, Brandon McGeeney, Alex Byrne, Oran Duffy, Freddie Green, Matthew Dunne, Alex O’Gorman, Conor Kavanagh, Adam Gibbons

We are very fortunate to have a number of coaches at this age group who help out with hurling and football including Eamonn Gallagher, Conor McNickle, Brendan McGlynn, Dave McTiernan and Roy Walsh.

Brendan McGlynn

Under 11 FootballKilcock U11 Football played in both the U11 Spring and Autumn league and played the following teams in both the Spring and Autumn leagues Celbridge ,Naas ,Carragh ,Clane, Maynooth, Cappagh, Sallins and friendlies against Raheens and St Edwards ,we lost 2 games in the Spring completion to Naas and Celbridge and lost two games in the Autumn completion to Sallin’s and Naas but in general these are an excellent bunch of players who are very committed and passionate about Gaelic football and we have very strong numbers at training and matches however we always welcome new players. We currently train on Wednesday evening.

The Panel of players for the year were as follows; Daniel Brett ,Niall O'Sullivan ,James Phelan, Daniel Ellison , Oscar Quigley, Michael Stokes ,Tadhg Killen, Eoin Fay, Luke Walsh, Roan Lynam-Hunter, Luke Fowler, Jamie Berns, Sean Nolan, Ben Slye, Charlie O'Meara, Conaill Mullarkey, Sean Curtin, and Ben Kirwan

I would like to thanks my co-mentors /managers Steven Hunter and Rowan Doyle who have coached and trained the boys throughout the year and finally a huge thanks to all the parents who supported there child to attend training and play matches throughout the year, we look forward to playing in the U12 football league next year.

Michael Stokes

Under 11 HurlingU11  hurlers have been very competitive this year in the winter league which consisted of Maynooth 2nd , Celbridge 2nd, Cappagh, Moorefield, and Confey. They have been very competitive in all games with a few wins included. We  have a small but dedicated panel, and this year I have probably seen the biggest improvement regarding skill and awareness.

Page 31: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

The panel is: Sean Nolan,Ben kirwan,Ben Slye,Luke Fowler,Daniel Ellison,Colin Madden,Conal Mullarkey,Oscar Quigley,James Phelan and Michael Stokes.

We train with the U13 and U10 Monday's and Thursday's.I would also like to thank the U10 hurling panel for helping out with additional players.

I would like to thank the parents for all their support throughout the year . Due to us having such a small squad they always do their best to be there to support the team.

The biggest thanks of the lot goes to players for their time and effort this year .It was really enjoyable to see such an  improvement  this year and hopefully it will continue on in the New Year

Daragh Nolan

Under 12 Football2016 has been a very successful year for our U12s football team.

First and foremost, Brendan O’Hora joined me as a mentor for the u12s. Brendan’s contribution this year has been immense. From helping out with the organisational aspects of training and matches, to the addition of another voice in the coaching and his tactical insight have proved invaluable and this has been reflected in the success of the U12 team this year.

At the start of the year Kilcock U12s entered one team in the North Kildare Spring league with a panel of 21 players. The team competed in the Division 2 against the following teams: Cappagh, Naas 2, Sallins, Eadestown, Blessington and Celbridge. The u12s went unbeaten in this campaign, culminating in the team winning the Division Two Cup over in St. Conleth’s, Newbridge in June. We played Eadestown in the final, winning out by 1-12 to 0-7.

In August , the U12s competed in the Seanie Barber blitz which was an all-county blitz held over in Sarsfields GAA. The U12s were in Division 3 against the following teams: Milltown, Rathangan and Sallins. Highlights from this tournament were beating the south board teams and narrowly being beaten in the semi-finals by the eventual winners Sallins.

In the Autumn league, we played with a panel of 23 players competing in Division 1a this time and again did well. The team competed in the Division 1a against the following teams: Celbridge 1, Naas 1, Raheens 1, Blessington and Clane. The highlights for the Autumn campaign were beating the Divison 1 Cup champions Raheens and winning the Division 1 second place playoff comprehensively against Maynooth in Maynooth at the end of October.

We also have sent 5 of our players to the Lily Óg academy this year. The training sessions are held over in Hawkfield on a bi-monthly basis. Our players have held their own playing against the best the county has to offer and we hope that they have continued success in the future representing Kilcock at county level.

We have a great bunch of lads at U12 level - the majority of the lads are attentive and receptive to training and are a pleasure to coach. I have noticed a marked improvement in basic skill levels - especially in the weaker players which is probably the most pleasing thing

Page 32: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

to see, from a personal perspective. On the negative side, our kicking scores from play has been poor at times – most of the games we lost this season were due to missed chances, both from frees and from open play. Kicking with the weaker foot is also a problem area that we need to focus on for next season as we transition to the 15-a-side game.

U12 Div2 Spring League

Because of our success in 2015 we were placed in Division 2 for the 2016 Spring League. We had six games in total. The move to the 2nd division meant we played some team we had never played against before most notably Broadford. Their players were extremely tall and tough and unfortunately they had the better of us from the start. Overall the team displayed great skill and determination and as a result we reached the semi final stage of the competition but lost to Cappagh.

U13 Div2 Autumn League

For the Autumn league we played at u13 level which meant that we had the u13 players back with us (they had been playing with Darragh O’Briens team up to this point). Overall the competition was tough. We had some good successes but finished middle of the league table.

Summary

Throughout the year we have been training on Monday nights alongside Daragh Nolan’s U10 team. Daragh has been invaluable with his coaching skills and both teams have benefited tremendously. At the end of the year the we have 22 players available to us. We lost some players and recruited new ones. However we will be playing the Feile in the spring of 2017 and desperately need a dedicated coach. During the year the provision of Sliothairs became critical. At one stage training was carried out with 4 Sliothairs! This problem eased a bit, however I currently possess 5 sliothairs to start the new year with..

Ronan Mahon

Under 13 FootballThe year got off to a somewhat shaky start with two new mentors onboard, but the players supported us wholeheartedly with attendance at training and our Leinster Cross County competition being very encouraging.

We were graded in Division 2 for our Kildare All County competition and reached a semi final where we lost in a replay to eventual winners Sallins GAA.

A big thank you must go to our under 12’s and their mentors Caoimhín and Brendan for their support throughout the season.

Sean Berns/Ed Goodwin

Under 14 Football2016 was Féile year for our boys; we started training with the Strength and Conditioning class in early January and worked hard through the bad weather towards the first 3 games in the u14 league. We were graded in division two; our 1st game was against Balyna in late February played in Monsoon like conditions on the back pitch in Clogherinkoe. We lost by 5 points in the end having given them a good game up until the last 5 minutes. Our next two games in the league had similar outcomes. We were re-graded to Feile C following on from our poor start in the league.

The Feile competition itself was a whole different kettle of fish; we won all our initial group games against our neighbours Cappagh and St Kevin’s travelling to Grange for an emphatic victory and finally Ellistown to progress directly to the semi final against Confey GAA.

We overcame Confey to reach the Feile C final against a very good Two Mile House team in Hawkfield on 12th May – The final itself was a tough hard fought battle between two evenly matched teams and to the credit of our boys they fought hard to the very end winning by 2 points.

The victory in the Feile competition lead on to a resurgence in the League and from the very poor start in February we reached 5th spot in the league. We won out the Shield competition in June to cap off the season.

Under 14/15 Hurling

The 2016 U14 / U15 year was one of pretty stark contrast - in the first few months of the year, as U14's, the team performed really well. We reached the Feile Div Two final putting in some excellent performances along the way. Unfortunately, not for the first time in a final, a very poor first half put paid to our chances and despite a strong second half showing we were

Page 34: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

beaten by a Sallins team who were better on the day. Significantly we added a few players to the panel along the way, but the pool of actual U14 (born 2002) hurlers remained worryingly low.

Notwithstanding the few additions, the second half of the year proved a lot more difficult where the small squad size - about 18 regulars made up of U12/U13's/U14's - struggled with injuries to key players and absences due to holidays. This meant that we could not fulfill our fixtures during the subsequent U14 league competition. As the kids are getting older and bigger it's increasingly difficult for the U12's to perform against guys who are two years older than them so any absences were pretty keenly felt.

As U15's, the Floodlit League was run off in Sep/Oct with six teams in Div 2. I would've hoped for better performances, given that this group of players narrowly lost the Feile final as U14's last year, but we didn't win a game. This highlights the challenge that awaits us in next year's U16 championship, but if we can keep the panel together over the winter, we can get stuck back into it in March.

For the Development Squad we sent five guys forward for training over a 12 week period in the Spring/Summer and two were selected to stay with the intercounty panel for the Sonny Walsh competition and the winter training programme - Sean Hodgins and Rossa O'Brien.

To be honest the year promised a lot, but we didn't really deliver. We've lost a fair bit of ground over the autumn 16 - spring 17 period, but I'd hope we can re-energise it a bit in March. We're only picking up 4 lads who were born in 2001 for the U 16 Championship next year so it'd be nice if we could find another 4 - 5 young fellas born in 2002 who can hurl a bit!!

Daragh O Brien

Under 15 FootballCian Flanagan joined U15 mentor JJ Flynn to train the combined U14 and U15 teams for the autumn league. We entered 2 teams in this competition the 1st team played in Div 2 and the 2nd team, comprised mostly of U14’s and U13’s in Div 5. The U15’s were somewhat depleted due some squad member’s commitments in other sports, training progressed very well under Cian’s direction and it bodes well for next year’s U16 Championship.

Neither team reached the quarter final stages of the competition but having a combined squad of 33 players working hard in training and games will bear fruit in the future

JJ Flynn/Cian Flanagan/Ed Goodwin/John O’Sullivan and Brendan Gibbons

Under 16 FootballThis year was a very busy, eventful and rewarding year for U 16 football despite not achieving any silverware.

Page 35: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

The U 16 footballers started off the year in Div 2 of the Spring league. A conscious decision was made to use the league as a building block to the U 16 football championship in the summer. Training started in January and this was combined with a 12 week programme of Strength and Conditioning, facilitated by Michael and Glynnis Reidy for U 16s, U 15s, U 14s and camogie teams. This was very successful in building core strength and creating a focus on stretching and warming up properly with the anticipated reduction in injuries sustained by players.

The Div 2 league was made up of 8 teams, Kilcock, Celbridge, St Nicholas, Clane, Sarsfields, Rathangan, and Sallins. Kilcock had wins against Sallins, Celbridge, St Nicholas, and Clane, drew with Sarsfields and lost to Rathangan.

Kilcock finished the league in second place and earned a place in the League final against Clane on Monday 2nd of May in St Conleths Park. This was a game dominated by a very physical Clane team where the Kilcock lads did not get the opportunity to show their real capability and Clane ran out comfortable winners on the day.

The grading for the U 16 football championship came out with Kilcock moved up to Div 1. The teams in Div 1 were divided into two groups of 5 with Kilcock in the stronger group of Naas, Carbury, Moorefield and Alymer Gaels.

Kilcock started out with a good win at home over Alymer Gaels. This was followed up with a loss away to Naas. The next match against Carbury at home became a key match which Kilcock needed to win. In a great game and played with great intensity by Kilcock they won 3-15 to 1-15. The last match saw Kilcock play Moorefield. Kilcock travelled to Moorefield with great expectation of reaching the Div 1 Championship final. Despite great football and commitment by all players Kilcock lost out to Moorefield by 5 points 2-15 to 2-10. This left Kilcock in a play off with Sarsfield’s for a place in the Shield final. Sarsfields could not field a team on the night of the fixture and Kilcock moved to the Div 1 shield final against Clane.

The Shield final took place in Hawkfield. Kilcock started well and at half time Clane were just in front. Despite a gallant effort by the whole team Clane maintained the dominance they showed earlier in the year in the league final and took home the Shield.

These are a fantastic group of lads and a panel who have brought great credit to themselves, their families, and the club. The majority have been playing football together since U 8. They have shown in the last year a great determination to succeed, to build their skills and to work for each other as part of a team. We hope they will continue to play football and represent Kilcock into the future.

U 16 Hurling With only 8 players born in 2000, the team was very much a group of lads comprising U 16s, U 15s and U 14s who were genuinely committed to playing hurling and representing their club.Jim Kenehan who had looked after this team since U 8s was unable to look after the team this year and asked me to step into the role. I asked Darragh O’Brien to work alongside me for the year.

The season started with the U 16 Hurling league with Kilcock entered in Div 2 along with Rathangan Coill Dubh, and Leixlip. In the first match against Rathangan, Kilcock got off to a slow start and were down at half time. A much more spirited effort and self-belief in the second half saw Kilcock raise their performance however losing out by the final whistle. Kilcock played Coill Dubh at home and playing with great spirit and belief held on to win 3-5 to 2- 4. The last game saw Kilcock play away to Leixlip. Kilcock gave a good account of themselves and despite a good team performance were beaten by a stronger side on the night. Rathangan and Leixlip went into the league final with Kilcock against Coill Dubh in the Shield final. On a dreadful rain soaked Saturday morning in Hawkfield, Kilcock dominated this match from the start. Kilcock maintained this intensity and great team effort and ran out comfortable winners in the end to take home the shield.

The teams for the U 16 Hurling Div 2 Championship came out in July but quickly altered due to clubs unable to field teams on their own and with clubs amalgamating the grading changed. The end result was for Div 2 to contain 3 teams, Kilcock, Celbridge and Leixlip. The fixtures were set for each team to play the others in the div home and away. Kilcock’s first match was against Celbridge away. With holiday season teams were down some players however despite this Kilcock played with great determination just losing out by a single controversial point. There was a gap of three weeks to the next fixture and with rescheduling of matches Kilcock played Celbridge at home. This was a very even battle with Celbridge starting off stronger in the first half. However Kilcock found their stride and raised the tempo for a very good second half display. Celbridge remained resilient to the Kilcock pressure and held out at the end with a 5 point margin. Kilcock played Leixlip at home in the next fixture and were beaten by the stronger team we experienced earlier in the year in the league. On the away fixture to Leixlip, despite Kilcock giving 100% commitment Leixlip’s edge dominated the match and they ran out comfortable winners on the night.

A sincere thanks and acknowledgement is due to all the panel of players in particular to all the younger players on the panel who put in a great effort and commitment despite playing above their age level. Hopefully the experience of playing at this level will stand to them in next year’s leagues and competitions. The entire panel can be proud of the way in which they representing their club. We encourage each player to continue to develop their game and skill and to continue to represent Kilcock hurling into the future.

2017…. Looking forwardThe main objectives of Bord na nÓg in 2017, working in conjunction with our new club Games Promotion Officer will be as follows;

1. Increase our playing numbers at all age groups with particular emphasis on the nursery and teams from under 7 to under 10.

2. Ensure that every boy and girl in Kilcock receives regular GAA coaching through our primary schools.

3. Develop a strong and mutually benefical working relationship with our primary schools, camogie and ladies football sections.

4. Upskill all club coaches with regular workshops.5. Create a framework for all club coaches to ensure our players are trained to a

consistently high standard. 6. Development of our 3 internal club camps to upskill players, to provide coaching

experience for our young adults, and as a consistent source of revenue for Bord na nÓg.

Is mise le meas,

Brendan McGlynn,Runaí, Bord na nÓg

Kilcock Ladies Annual Report 20162016 started with great promise for our senior team following on from our fantastic win in the

minor championship at the end of 2015, with the bulk of that victorious side also making up

our adult panel. Stuart Smith was brought in as our new manager and guided the girls through

the rigours of pre-season training in January and February with the help of fitness coach

Suzanne Lett in preparation for a crack at division three of the senior league and Junior A in

the championship.

Unfortunately things did not work out with Stuart and he left after our first league game, a

heavy defeat at home to a strong Na Fianna side (a team we would be seeing more of later on

in the year).

We were lucky enough to find a replacement, two in fact, almost immediately and we will be

forever thankful to ‘The Two Martins’ (as they became more commonly known upon their

appointment). Martin ‘Mudgie’ Maguire and Martin Kiely, a duo that went on to forge a great

partnership for the remainder of the year.

It was no coincidence that results and more importantly overall morale quickly picked up at

this juncture and the girls went onto reach the league semi final, beating Ballykelly,

Kilcullen, Kildangan/Nurney and losing out to Carbury and Moorefield along the way before

been narrowly defeated by the latter in a closely contested semi. Numbers had soared since

the start of the season and we had in the region of twenty five girls togged on that windy

night adjacent to the Curragh racecourse. The girls were well and truly ready for another

crack at the Junior A Championship.

We lost Caoimhe Fagan and Laura O’Neill to the J1 and Suzanne Lett to injury but we still

had a great mixture of youth and experience in our ranks and this was proven with a

comfortable round one victory over Rathangan. Despite a round two loss to the old foe

Carbury we reached another semi final where favourites Na Fianna lay in wait. This game

was case of what might have been and despite putting in their performance of the year, the

Page 39: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

girls still fell short but only just. Each and every one of the team left nothing in the tank on

the night and for that they can have no regrets. One major plus on the night was the form of

our sharp-shooter Grace White who kicked nine points from every angle inside the thirty-

yard line. Another plus was the sight of Bernie Durkan returning to the fold after a few years

in England, albeit as an unused sub but this addition alone gives promise for 2016.

The girls, parents, committee members and all involved with the club wish to thank ‘The

Two Martins’ for their time, effort and commitment during the year and for stepping in at

such short notice.

This year we had joint captains of the senior team. Thank you to Shona Cagney and Emma

Robinson for leading the team on and off the field with distinction.

UNDERAGE:

Our underage continues to flourish thanks in main to three names Val, Sheena and Linda. A

special mention to Val Herbert whose work at nursery level both this year and in years gone

by has ensured the future of ladies football in Kilcock for years to come. Over fifty girls can

be seen on a Thursday night been shown the ropes by Val and her trusted team that includes

Holly Burke and Sandra McGonagle. We had teams competing from u-9 upwards and thanks

to all who helped out.

At the time of going to post our minor team are at the semi final stage of their championship

as they look to defend their crown. They face Milltown, with Ballykelly awaiting the winners

in the final. Thanks to Bernie Durkan for giving her time to coach the team. We will keep you

posted on how that competition unfolds.

Thank You

Lastly I would like to thank everyone who continues to support us in any way possible. We

held a clothes collection early in the year and the response we got from you, the people of

Kilcock, was phenomenal. Please continue to support us in 2017 when hopefully we will be

returning with some silverware to the club.

Kilcock Ladies PRO

Kilcock Camogie Club 2016Nursery & U7 Camogie Team

2016 was an outstanding year for girls in the nursery on Saturday mornings, we had over 35 girls playing camogie and football, getting invaluable basics skills of both codes from veryexperienced current and former players. In terms of hurling and camogie there were 10 players there who gave freely of their time to get theboys and girls off to a good start.

Later in the year we entered for the first time ever a team from Kilcock in the U7 competition, we ended up with two teams playing in all 5 blitzes. The first U7 blitz alongside the U9’s took place in Kilcock and was really successful and a big thanks goes out to Kevin Morley who was the match manager on the day and did an excellent job. A special mention to Padraic Lavin for giving every participant and ice-cream on the day a very generous gesture and it was greatly appreciated by both the girls and their parents.

The two U7 teams played four more blitz’s in Celbridge, Clane, Maynooth and Johnstown Bridge. The girls were outstanding and surprised everyone with their skill levels, ability, willingness, and pure determination. The won quite a few of their games.

Giving the girls such a great start would have less successful, if we had not been able to reach out to the Boys U7 team Manager Ger Kiely who leant us the boy’s jerseys each time we played, so the girls could enjoy the concept of being part of a team in its entirety by wearing the same Kilcock jersey. This must be acknowledged as a standout moment for our Camogie section, as it should be noted that on day one the boys played without any jerseys so that these girls could play their very first game in the green and gold for Kilcock, Ger and his fellow mentors along with the boys themselves, were more than happy to extend this support.

We have now begun training in the hall on a Monday night from 7-8 and have a panel of 29 players with 15 of them U7 again next year. We will keep adding to the number. We need to ensure that the nursery gets the same attention next year from a Camogie perspective as it is in our view is a guaranteed route for getting girls into our sport if its managed in the right way.We would respectfully ask for an opportunity to discuss buying a set of Jerseys for this team as we cannot rely on the boys again next year.A big thank you to John and the rest of the committee for their support during the year.

Under 8's, 9's, 10's

Training recommenced in February on Tuesday nights with a panel of 20 girls. Coaches were Blaithnaid Tapley & Anne Gabbett. The girls have been attending training sessions all year on Tuesday evenings and we have seen a huge improvement in camogie skills.  Year started for our U8 and U10 go games in April. Our u8s played in Maynooth, Celbridge, Straffan and

Page 41: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

final blitz in Sallins. U10s played in Cappagh, Broadford,Maynooth and final blitz in Straffan. Indoor training will recommence in Feb. New members and mentors are always welcome.

Under U 12's & 13's

The U12 & 13 teams commenced training in February with Kevin Morley, Mark Gannon as the management team. The highlight for the U12 team was their participation in the Cumann to Croker in Abbotstown. It was an extremely wet day and great credit to all players, mentors & parents who togged out on the day. We played 4 matches. We won one, drew one & lost 2 but the team were really commited despite the conditions.

The U13 team competed in the Div 2 league with Athy, Ardclough, Eire Og, Leixlip, Nas na Riogh, Celbridge 2, Rathcoffey & Broadford. The competition was played on an open draw & we played 5 matches & qualified for the plate final. We played Leixlip in the final but unfortunately we lost in a very competitive game.

Under 14's

Training started in February for the camogie girls led by coaches John Hurley, Roger Mullarkey and Elaine McAuliffe. Our U14 team kicked off the division 2A league in March with a great win in Celbridge 6:1 to 5:0, led by Katie Goodwin in the middle of the field. We had a number of new players at this age group on the day such as Aoife McManus, Eleanor Lambert and Katie Cussan.

Our next match was away to Johnstownbridge. Despite some great defending by Alanna Morrow and Sadhb Mullarkey, we lost 4:3 to a point scored by midfielder Katie Goodwin. We followed this up with a win against Clane at home 5:4 to 1:1, Sinead Shannon, Katie Goodwin and Alana O’Brien supplying the vital scores on the day. Despite losing our final league match to a combined Athy/Nurley team 1:5 to 0:2, we made it through the Shield Semi Final where we beat Celbridge 8:2 to 2:1. Again we had great displays of camogie all around the field.

We won the Division 2A Shield final in Eire Óg on Sunday 22nd May against Naas. It was a fantastic display from all players on the day, captained by Katie Goodwin. Displays of particular note were Hannah Morley and Aine Field in the back and Aoife Walsh and Makayla Gannon in the forwards. The winning team included: C Flynn; H Morley; S Mullarkey; A Morrow; A Field; S Maguire; S Shannon; M Gannon; A Walsh; K Goodwin; A O’Brien; S O’Sullivan; Chloe Byrne; Megan McNamara; A McManus; E Lambert; K Cussen; K Dunne; L Okeke.

The U14 team took part in the county Féile on Sunday 24th April in Clane. Since we had won the Féile B competition two years in row, we were put into the Féile A group with division 1 teams Celbridge, Maynooth, Naas and Eire Óg/Corra Choill.

Under 15's

Page 42: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

Similarly, or under 15 team were put into division 1 this year which meant we had a very tough campaign against Naas, Celbridge, Maynooth and Naomh Bríd (Leixlip/Cappagh). While we did not win any of games, our girls learned a lot in terms of what is required to move up a grade. There was a great commitment from all 21 girls on the panel. However, we only had six girls who were 15 and relied on girls from our U14 panel to field teams.

We have some very fine players who are moving to under 16 this year, including Fiona Kyne, Sophie Mulligan, Sarah Lavin, Osamu Okiosifo and Eike Curtin. Indeed, from last year’s U15 panel, five players: Fiona Kyne, Sarah Lavin, Sadhb Mullarkey, Katie Goodwin and Hannah Morley; are now playing regularly at county development level. We have no doubt that more Kilcock Camogie players will be making a strong impression and Kildare County level in the future, thanks to the dedication of parents, coaches and the girls themselves.

U16 ‘s

Training commenced in February under the management of Jim Kenehan & Elaine McAuliffe. The Under 16 team competed in Div 1 for the first time in the club’s short history. We played in Div 1 against Naas, Celbridge, Maynooth, Clane & Athy. Our first game was against Maynooth on Wed 30th March. It was a really closely contested game with Maynooth winning by 5-4 to 4-3. Our next game was against Naas in Naas where we were well beaten by a very strong Naas side. We then played Clane and beat them on a scoreline of 1-9 to 5-2. We played Athy in Kilcock on 20th April. It was again a very close game but Athy ran out winners by 5-5 to 3-3. We played Celbridge in our final game of the league where we were well beaten. We qualified for the shield final against Maynooth on 8th May in Eire Óg. The team played well on the day but were beaten by a very good Maynooth team. Caoimhe Sheil was awarded player of the game for the final.

This was the first time we had a team in U16 Div 1 and the goal at the start of the year was to be competitive in every match. The team certainly performed beyond expectations and were really committed to training and all games throughout the year. Based on the team’s performance in 2016 they have the potential to be one of the top camogie teams in the county if they all remain committed to training and this team in the years to come. Huge congratulations to Caoimhe Sheil, Fiona Kyne & Sarah Lavin who represented the club on the U16 county teams and won the Leinster championship competitions. Caoimhe & Fiona won All-Ireland medals with Kildare & Caoimhe was awarded Kildare young player of the year.

U16 Panel:- Sarah Lavin, Aoife Boland, Caoimhe Sheil, Jessica Quinn, Saoirse Buckley, Ailbhe Gabbett, Fiona Kyne, Sophie Mulligan, Laoise Scanlon, Eike Curtin, Aoife Mullally, Osamu Okiosifo, Katie Goodwin, Hannah Morley, Anna Radchenkov, Makayla Gannon, Alanna O Brien

Minor:

The minor team competed in Div2 with Broadford, & the following amalgamation teams, Eire Og/Straffan/Rathcoffey, Johnstownbridge/Leixlip, Athy/Nurney. Our first game was on 9th Oct against JTB/leixlip. It was a very entertaining game which Kilcock won on a scoreline of 6-10 to 4-5. Unfortunately this was our only win and we two further games against Eire Og/Straffan/Rathcoffey, & Athy/Nurney where we were well beaten. Based on these results

Page 43: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

we gave Broadford a walkover in the final match. The team management were very disappointed with the format of this Div2 competition where amalgamated teams were far too strong for this Division. Hopefully the County board will have a fairly graded league for next year.

Minor Panel:- Sarah Lavin, Aoife Boland, Caoimhe Sheil, Jessica Quinn, Saoirse Buckley, Ailbhe Gabbett, Fiona Kyne, Sophie Mulligan, Laoise Scanlon, Eike Curtin, Aoife Mullally, Osamu Okiosifo, Helen Field, Alex Mulligan, Louise Leonard, Alanna Keane, Grace Lavin.

Junior Team

Training for the Junior team started in February with Mark Gannon as trainer/manager & Kevin Morley as selector. The teams first outing was to a team building event in Craughan Hill on 12th March. The day was really tough and the event manager, Kevin & Mark really put the participants through a gruelling course. But all agreed it was a really enjoyable day. The team competed in the Junior Div3 league against Nurney, Rathcoffey & Ardclough. The team were unbeaten except for a 1 point loss to Rathcoffey in the competition. We qualified for the final against Rathcoffey but were beaten on the day by a stronger Rathcoffey team.

The team competed in the Junior Championship where we played Rathcoffey, Nurney, Ardclough, Clane2 St Laurence's 2, Celbridge 2 & Broadford. We qualified for the semi-final against St Laurences. We beat St Laurences & progressed to the final where we played Clane2 on the 17th Sept. in Rathcoffey. Unfortunately, we were beaten on the day. The Junior team and management were really disappointed with the result. After this result both Kevin & Mark stepped down as a management team, the committee would like to express their thanks to both Kevin & Mark for the commitment to the Junior team over the last few years it was really appreciated. Well done to Lorna Murray who was a member of the County Camogie panel for the second year running.

Junior panel:- N McCarthy, N O'Brien, A McGrath (Capt), A Divilly, E Lavin, S Kenehan, L Murray, M Mulhall, S Farrell, L O'Neill, L Byrne, E Kenehan, A Mulligan, H Field, L Leonard, S Byrne, J Browne, S Buckley, A Boland.

Kilcock’s Big Fat Fake Wedding

In 2016, Kilcock Camogie Club and Bord na nÓg came together to raise money to fund a juvenile development coach to promote the development of Gaelic games in the Kilcock area.

A committee was put together and local businesses were target to provide sponsorship and advertising for the event. In all, Kilcock’s Big Fat Fake Wedding raised €9,700 in sponsorship, €1,900 in-kind sponsorship and €6,900 in ticket sales and raffle on the night. Both the Hen/Stag Party in the Club to launch the event and the night itself were extensively covered on the Liffey Champion.

The night itself, on Saturday October 1st, was a huge success with a full house in the Hamlet Court Hotel and great entertainment on the night. Altogether, the event cleared €10,000, which has been divided between Camogie and Bord nÓg.

Kilcock’s Big Fat Fake Wedding is the result of a lot of hard work from all involved. In particular, the wedding party cast put in many hours of preparation and rehearsals to make

Page 44: Documents/Kilcock GAA...  · Web viewCumann Luthchleas Gael. Cill Chóca. Kilcock GAA Club. Annual General Meeting. 2016 Report

sure that performance on the night was something to remember. Lorna Murray and Mark Durkan played a stormer as the bride and groom, ably assisted by priest Kenny Cribbin, the groomsmen (Ciaran Murray, David Duke, Shaun Maguire), bridesmaids Orla Cagney, Laura O’Neill, Siobhan McAuley), parents (Gerry Long, Sandra Keane, Eamonn Gallagher, Enda Kyne), pageboy Declan Keane and flowergirl Shona Cagney. We would like to thank Norman Morrow for his wonderful script and choreographers Emma Brady and Emma Toner for their hard work in making the night such as success.

We would like to thank the business community of Kilcock and North Kildare who were very generous in supporting our fundraising initiative. The fundraiser not only helped us to raise much needed money, but it really brought out the community spirit that exists in Kilcock and forged a closer working relationship between our Camogie Club and Bord na nÓg.The organising committee consisted of the following:Camogie: John Hurley; Siobhan Lavin; Jim Kenehan; Ger Kenehan; Niamh O’Brien; Maeve Mulhall; and Aoife Divilly.Bord na nÓg: Ed Goodwin and Brendan McGlynn.

Juvenile Club Development Coach

A key part of the Big Fat Fake Wedding fundraising drive is to employ a club coach to promote the development of Gaelic games in the Kilcock area. Kilcock GAA has applied to the County Board for a coach who will be shared with another GAA club. A local contribution of €10,000 per annum towards the cost of the coach will be required from Kilcock. The coach will work directly with all juvenile members of the club, both boys and girls, who play football, hurling and camogie.

Kilcock GAA has applied to the GAA County Board for a coach who will be shared with another club. The coach will support the development of hurling, camogie and football skills for girls and boys in Kilcock through the local schools and help improve the skills of our volunteer coaches.

The new coach will provide expertise coaching to all our players both at the club and in all local primary schools in our catchment area. This exposure to regular high quality coaching will help our players reach their full potential on the field of play. By working in the local primary schools all the children of Kilcock will be introduced to Gaelic games. Nurturing an interest in our games among the children and their parents will directly lead to increased numbers of children attending our nursery and joining teams within the club. We would hope to have word from the GAA County Board on the application in the next few months and to have the coach in place by September, 2017.

The Club hosted the Kildare Camogie County player & Mentor of the year awards on Thurs 10th Nov. It was a great success & the club was complimented by the County board for the excellent organisation and facilities provided on the night. Congratulations to Blathnaid Tapley who received the Kilcock person of the year award on the night & to Caoimhe Sheil & Fiona Kyne who received their All- Ireland medals and again to Caoimhe who received the Kildare young player of the year award. The committee would also like to remember our friend and colleague Cathy Carr who passed away during the year. Cathy gave many years of service to camogie both as mentor and committee member. Her passion for sport and interest

in the girls left its mark on those of us who served alongside her. The committee would like to thank all parents and players who attended training and their games throughout the year. The club would also like to thank Scooples Ice Cream for their generous sponsorship of the underage teams during the year. The committee would also like to thank Kilcock GAA for its support throughout the year for the use of pitches, training hall & floodlights. Finally, we thank all the members of the fundraising committee who raised badly needed funds for the club. The funds raised has set the club up for the years to come and the provision of a development coach for all our underage players will ensure the club will grow to be a very successful club into the future.
