LCL have had an awareness poster up in all of our vehicles, welfare facilities and site offices. The poster displays 7 top tips to enable safe excavations to be carried out, with the slogan “ There is no secret to safe excavation…….Please let the C.A.T out of the bag!! A copy can be seen on our website. We have also delivered a Safety Stand Down, at two locations, to all of the LCL operatives and Supervisors, covering the three main steps to safe excavation, Planning, Locating and Identifying services and Safe excavation, as set out by HSG47. The presentation was produced by LCL’s external Health & Safety Consultant and presented by our own SHEQ advisor Tony Watts. Included in the Stand Down was a demonstration by our supplier, of the nine new eCAT4+ cable avoidance tools which LCL have purchased to upgrade our survey equipment. The new digital platform delivers highly refined locate capabilities, specifically designed to help the operator find more buried utilities. With new features including data logging, swing rate and depth estimation, these tools will enable LCL to pinpoint buried services, reducing the risk of injury to personnel and damage to utilities. Following the presentation, all attendees were given a copy of the latest version of HSG47 and honest feedback was collected from all, with a view to identifying possible areas of training needs. We will be addressing these needs shortly in order to make certain we continue to deliver the highest standards of safety. LCL will also be holding our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 5 th September where all this information will be reviewed and a plan for training requirements for the coming months will be confirmed.

SPONSORSHIP

This month we are excited to share the news that we

have offered our ongoing support to the iDonate campaign. The iDonate campaign is aimed to

encourage the people of Northamptonshire to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and let those

closest to them know that they want to be an organ donor and give life.

While 95% of families agree to donation if a loved one has discussed their wishes and is

registered on the Organ Donor Register, this drops to only 46% when donation wishes

aren’t known.

We will be helping to raise awareness by putting the iDonate logo on all of our vehicles and also by spreading the word about the exciting events and activities that are planned

to boost the campaign.
