The Importance of Water
Water is necessary to life. Without water, all living things will surely die. We need water for drinking, cooking, washing and cultivating our fields.
No one can survive without drinking water. Every day, we drink litres of water. This sometimes takes the form of soft drinks and soups. Water is often added to dishes when we cook. It is a necessary ingredient.
Farmers use water to cultivate their fields and to provide drinking water for their livestock. It is a precious natural resource and a source of energy. When it is converted into steam, it can be used to operate machines.
Dams are built across rivers not only to generate hydroelectricity but also to create reservoirs where water is stored to provide for drinking and irrigation.
Since water is so important, we should use it wisely and not waste it.

“Why so long, Cik?” queried Jamal. He had already spent a few sleepless nights thinking
about his bride.

the catering, yes, the bridal chamber (blush), yes, definitely, but the bunga telur? What was that?
He had not anticipated this bunga telur thing. Jamal needed clarifications on the bunga telur
issue. A bunga telur, his sister explained is the thing, in fact the given thing, hosts presented to
guests on the latter’s leave. These were usually hard-boiled eggs. Well, that’s not really a
problem, thought Jamal. What was wrong with that? One could eat the eggs after the feast.
But, to Jamal’s horror, the bunga telur was only part of the whole scene. Jamal’s mother
demanded certain funds with which to finance the arrangements. Jamal then took to making
budget sheets.

Each morning, Jamnian wakes up at 5 a.m. and goes to the market to stock
up on supplies for his wife’s convenience store in front of the apartment where they
live. When he gets home, he helps his son get ready for school.
Then, Jamnian begins his work day, plying the streets of Bangkok. By 9 a.m.,
he picks up his first customers. Jamnian helps his customers to load their purchases
onto his tuk-tuk* before racing off to their destinations. At around 10.30 a.m., Jamnian
stops for his first meal of the day, a plate of chicken fried rice.
Later, he goes to a small temple to light incense and pray. Between late
morning and late afternoon, he does not get busy. He reads newspaper and listens to
music with other tuk-tuk* drivers.
At sunset, work picks up again. Jamnian drives shoppers back to their homes
before returning home himself. This is a typical day’s work for a tuk-tuk* driver.
