DIY CAR GROUNDING FOR VIVA

Attention: Do this at your own risk. The author shall not be responsible for any damage or injury caused by using these tips. If you are unsure of any terms, please consult someone with electronic-based knowledge.

Items needed to build grounding system:

1) Sufficient length 8GA cable. Can also use 4GA cable, its thicker.(Lower resistance = better, O2 free = better)

2) Ring connectors (Sufficient amount)3) Black Tape, or Heatshrink with Hair dryer4) Spanner5) Pocket knife6) Other tools which u think necessary

You can get the 8GA cables from electronic hobby shop at approximately RM 5.00 per meter. The same shop which sells electronic components. However its harder to find thicker cables such as 4GA cable. You may measure the length of required cables first according to your engine bay, and installation point. The shorter the better. Make sure at least 1 cable connected to battery’s negative terminal. Other cables can be connected at points as its more economical this way. However, direct grounding to battery’s negative terminal for each cable is the best. Up to your creativity on doing cable management after that.

Installation points:

1) Engine Head (nearest to spark plug is better)2) Alternator3) Throttle Body4) Firewall5) Right Body6) Left body7) Front Body

Figure 2: Head grounding point (in circle).

I found out that this is the closest point to spark plugs. It already has a small oem grounding wire to front body. I also add another grounding point to front body (red cable). Main benefits for this point are better engine response & idling.

Figure 3: Alternator grounding point (in blue circle) and second head grounding point (in green circle).

The alternator point is fixed with an aftermarket grounding cable but u can always use diy cables. However it is advisable that u get thicker cable like the 4GA size because alternator pumps out high amp current. The second grounding point is a backup for the first head grounding. It also acts as a junction to join other shorter cables. Main benefits for these points are better idling & improve charging system as well as engine response.

Figure 4: Grounding points for throttle body (in green circle)

Main benefit is said to be better idling & engine response. Note that several oem grounding wires are also fixed here (in blue circle).

Figure 5: Right body grounding (in circle)

Note that the grounding cable is fixed at the same place as the headlight grounding wire. This benefits brighter right headlight.

Same concept as the right body grounding but this one improve left headlight.
