Šibenik is the oldest originally Croatian town on the Croatian coast.

HOW TO GET HERE

D-Resort Šibenik is easy to reach because of its close vicinity and well developed transportation. It is only 6 km away from the A1 (E65) highway and the closest airports Split (SPU) and Zadar (ZAD) are only 40 minutes.

Arriving by boat is also optional; D-Resort Šibenik is located in the heart of D- Marin Mandalina 43 ˚ 43.0 'N and 15 ˚ 54.0'E, or 0.2 Nm 120 ° NE from the entrance canal of St. Ante.

DESTINATION FACTS

NATURAL HERITAGE

Krka National Park (Croatian: Nacionalni park Krka) is one of the Croatian national parks, named after the river Krka that it encloses. It is located along the middle-lower course of the Krka River in central Dalmatia, in Šibenik-Knin county, downstream Miljevci area, and just a few kilometers northeast of the city of Šibenik.[1] It was formed to protect the Krka River and is intended primarily for scientific, cultural, educational, recreational, and tourism activities. It is the seventh national park in Croatia and was proclaimed a national park in 1985.

Kornati National Park Few places in the Mediterranean concentrate so much of what the modern tourist needs for complete relaxation in such a relatively small area, as do the Kornati Islands. The Kornati are the densest island group in the Adriatic, with small fields, hidden oases of large-crowned pines and olives, quiet and sheltered bays that are ideal for escaping the noise and worry of civilization. The cultural traces of the past, scattered all over the rocks of this now so peaceful stone desert, are proof of permanent and restless life in this region. The islands stretch parallel with the Dinaric Mountains from Dugi otok to the end of Kurba Vela and include 89 islands, islets and rocks - all together 35 km long and about 13 km wide. They were named after the biggest island, Kornat.

Channel of St.Anthony Šibenik Channel of St Anthony is one of the most beautiful parts of the Adriatic coast and most lavish maritime entrances to a city. Besides its natural beauties noticeable even at a glance and marvelous panoramic view on Šibenik, Šibenik archipelago and St Nicholas fortress, this channel hides numerous cultural and natural values.

Well-arranged trails, pier and panoramic viewpoints, cultural heritage and recreational facilities provide a variety of different activities throughout the area (walking, jogging, Nordic walking, orienteering, cycling, sightseeing, panoramic sightseeing, training and sport competitions organization etc.).

CULTURAL HERITAGE

The Fortress of St. Michael St. Michael’s Fortress is located at a height of 70m above the sea behind the old city agglomeration. It was built, in the period from the 15th to 17th century, out of dressed white stone. Thanks to archeological research, remains of a culture from the prehistoric Iron Age have been found, which proves that the fortress was built by Croats in a place that was once known as a post of old Illyrians.

The Fortress of st. Nicholas St. Nicholas’ Fortress is located at the entrance to the St. Anthony Channel and was built in the middle of the 16th century as defense from Turkish attacks from the sea. It was built according to the designs of the Venetian military builder, Michele Sammichella. St. Nicholas’ Fortress (having a triangle shape) is one of the strongest forts on our coast.

Churces and monasteries There are few cities that can boast in the way Šibenik can with its wealth of religious facilities. Šibenik is a town with 24 churches of which 12 are used for the service of God whilst the rest have different purpose; St. Barbara's Church – the Sacral Art Museum, St. Gregory's Church – permanent exhibition of Juraj Dalmatinac's works of art, St. Krševan – gallery, St. Catherine – residential area, All Saints – first museum area in 1925, St. Michael's Church – until 1995 the late woodcutter, Ante Belamarić's atelier. Besides the 24 churches, over ten centuries, Šibenik inhabitants have also built six monasteries (3 male and 3 female).
